NFL Trade Deadline Discourse

I think they look at the team and figure even if they traded for an edge rusher or a safety it wouldn't be enough to put the team over the top. The FO is not over estimating how good the team is.
I think they've been quite clear. They didn't want half season rentals or ageing players. I like that approach.

But Mack Hollins is already here, making way less money, and is productive for what he does.
We better hope KW develop some: so we can sit Tarzan's @ss because he's a nothing WR.

This being a non sequitur likely explains your confusion. Beyond that, you might consider seeking help for these violent fantasies involving anonymous folks you encounter online.

Jets are an interesting situation. They got GREAT value and now an extra 3 ones and a two.

But also made themselves MUCH worse for now.

Hard to imagine Glenn going anywhere soon given they just traded two of their best players away and a third (Hall) doesn’t want to be there.
I dunno, are they much worse? They were 1-7 with those guys.

Call my a cynic, but are we mostly helping RKK's bottom line by staying way, way, way under the cap?

During the dynasty we bragged about spending at least close to the cap, regularly. We are still way under, right?

I am hoping we can at least bilk some capped-out teams of some talent next offseason.

I wouldn't be so irritated about doing nothing at the deadline if they didn't ship off two players last week with no legitimate replacement for them.

I get they havet contributed a lot this year and perhaps they're not in the plans for the future but to just shed depth like that while being a competitive team doesn't make any sense to me.

Really? He works with Maye and that's all that matters.

Admittedly this is a Drake Maye tweet but even so.

He's should at 6'6 knowing Maye throws an errant pass every once in a while.

It changed when the cap $$ carried forward. If you ultimately use the whole cap, which we will next year then you eventually spent the whole cap.

The issue is we are near the bottom in cash spent.

Why is that a problem? Cash spent includes up front signing bonuses. Low cash spent means lesser amount of quality of big contracts and more cap spent on “fill in” guys on short term deals with even cap hits rather than big deals that increase.

Low cash spending (over time because it can vary heavily year to year) is the determination of cheapness in roster building not cap spending.

I think that the OL/DL regression vs improvement over the season this far may be the reason they stood pat.

Pressure rate is way down on D, way UP on O.

Perhaps the powers that be realize it’s a bit of a mirage to think the roster is really ready to compete in meaningful games and that protecting assets is wiser to keep building.

Onwenu, in particular has become a flat out liability.

He has to go after the season. Probably another 6 for 7 swap.

I think they have actually been competitive in some of those games. I suspect NE beats them by 3 scores now.

No, he would have been meh here. Because he was meh when he was here before, meh in Las Vegas.
He was meh is Las Vegas?? You would say anything to make yourself feel better: that's bad even for you Tommy.

Ridiculous take. We have the best record in the NFL and have won 6 in a row. A more likely take is they didn’t think any available players would be much of an upgrade.

Meh.

The Patriots didn't need a meh WR rental. There's a reason these guys were available. Cowden/Highsmith/Vrabel told you that today.

Wait. Wait. Wait.

Mac Hollins sucks. I am sure I read that right here.

*scrolls back*

Yup. I did.

Actually I think both these posts are correct. Aside from the Bills game which was great, I do think our schedule has flattered to deceive a bit. That's not to take away from Maye, the coaches, the defense and WRs who have all been brilliant but I do think it's a stretch to think the addition of a couple of pieces of depth would turn us into SB favourites.

They've stressed that they're in this for the long-term with a plan. No need to blow that up after half a season.

You don’t blow anything up by trading a 5th round pick
There is just no way that this team is sitting there saying we are 7-2 but we can’t keep it up so let’s just flop on the floor and start losing. Coaches don’t discount success because of opponent, fans do that. Coaches don’t beat the top team in the conference in their house and say we aren’t ready to compete.
