NFL threatens to suspend 4 players from Al Jazeera report indefinitely if they don't interview

I didn't really look closely, but I think it's pretty easy to conclude that the Al Jazeera report is more credible than the Wells. Goodell doesn't give a damn about guilt or innocence, only on getting players/teams to submit to him fully.

Love this quote: "If you celebrated Brady's discipline, surely you realized that your team could be next. You did realize that, right?"

the rest of the NFL before yesterday

Most comments I have seen are basically of the "yeah, but Brady was actually guilty" variety. The propaganda machine is just too strong for the masses. These players are lucky Manning was also implicated, or the NFL would have been on a similar campaign to make sure these players were considered guilty by the masses as well.

I have said a lot of things about Florio and PFT over the years but I think I take back a lot of it.

He has been consistently level headed and clear thinking throughout this whole thing and it's great to have a voice like his be the influential contrarian among the lynch mob.

No, they didn't. Because most people are stupid. I used to be of the opinion that I didn't want to see a public circus in this league with Goodell getting headline after headline but now I really don't care. I hope every team gets screwed by the NFL front office. Maybe they'll grow a set the next time negotiations begin for the new CBA.

That's actually because of the CBA, as I understand it. The rules under which Gordon was suspended allow him to be with the team whereas the rules under which Brady was suspended do not. This isn't anything new and it (amazingly) wasn't an arbitrary decision by Goodell.
That's also my understanding. Under the substance abuse policy Gordon is allowed to be around his teammates for support. Now the kind of 'support' he gets from the guys in Cleveland, I can only imagine, but Goodell actually applied the rules in the CBA consistently in this case.

James Harrison, Clay Matthews, Julius Peppers and Gom-- uhhh Gomer's wife-- all walk into a shady clinic...

This is a league that clearly doesn't care about appearances... such as the appearance of having it in the bag for the Manning family.

That is what I find so insulting and aggrivating about all of this.. the blatant middle finger approach that the nfl takes, they don't even try to pretend that they're being fair about stuff

Brady will serve a four-game suspension to start this season because the NFL determined he was "more likely than not" involved in a scheme to deflate footballs in the 2014 AFC Championship Game. The league's final report, of course, carried not a shred of direct and verified evidence that Brady was involved -- or even that the balls themselves were artificially deflated. It focused heavily on Brady's refusal to provide his mobile phone, even though he said he provided all the information the league requested from it.

Man, I would love for this to become largely understood as the narrative behind Deflategate. I've lost any hope that general public, being colossally stupid as it is, will ever figure it out though.

They don't have to. They know people will keep renewing their season tickets and buying their merchandise.

Would not matter if Goodell says this exact thing himself. The general public dosent care anymore. But they will now when it begins to effect their team.

Yeah...I was mostly kidding when I wrote it, but I do wonder if Kraft has any influence in the league anymore. I mean, I'm wondering what that dynamic is. Or is he just considered a clown by those guys now since he rolled over. I really don't know.

It's pretty clear that we overestimated Kraft's influence in the league.. the team and Brady would not have been so ridiculously rail roaded over nothing if Kraft had 25% of the influence that we thought he did.

It's also apparent that Kraft doesn't have a lot of friends in the owners circle.. or at least no powerful friends.. Jerry Jones obviously does not like him, probably because he's jealous of his success and the value of his franchise, but Jerry and some other owners were happy to watch Kraft get thrown under the bus and have every wheel hit him

Kraft's power and influence in the league was an illusion... either that or he agreed to let his team and QB get totally screwed just to make a few more dollars, in which case if that is true he can go **** himself

You're wrong here, IMO. This league is all about appearances, and Goodell's all about being a hardass. That's why you see them give Manning a pass (appearances) when he was already retired and beyond Goodell's reach, but going after all the others (hardass).

I would have thought their twitter account had demonstrated that long ago.

They could have at least given off the appearance of going after Manning with the same ferocity that they went after Brady while Manning was still in the league.

Manning could have shot Goodell's wife, wiped his bloodies hands off on Goodell's curtains, and kicked Goodell's dog on the way out of the house, and he would have gotten off. He's the exception that proves the rule, because he was the only player bigger than the league.

Nope, sorry, the dog would have been a bridge too far!
