NFL suspends Payton, Loomis & Williams; strips Saints of two draft picks

Would you rather have a toothless commissioner who has no power that comes with his position and let the owners and players dictate everything according to their own interests? They appoint the Commissioner precisely because the owners realize that there is too much of a conflict of interest between them and they need an impartial executive. According to the constitution of the NFL the commissioner has certain powers, and one of the primary powers is the right to discipline players, coaches, teams and owners for activities which are in violation of the rules of the league.

Payton and the Saints have the right of appeal.

I fail to see the dictatorship or the arrogance here.

Yeah, but like joker was saying, how is it better, to make us an example instead of doing the right thing to investigate everyone? This is clearly happening in other teams. So, thow I agree with our fines, Goddell is placing all blame of this ever happening on the Saints. Thats not true

short answer?..a resounding YES!..I want a QUALIFIED professional manning the position of Commissioner...to you Goodell is "impartial"????

as a product, you're job is to protect the image of that product as commissioner....OK...I'll play....argument over a memo, with vague language and ambiguous interpretation...forfeiture of an all important franchise building block 1st round pick and severe damage to a flagship entity within the NFL business structure, PLUS millions in fines and ancillary damages...OK, YOU are 100% behind that...now there's THIS...

25,000 dollar fine..peanuts...nationwide published mockery of the NFL...YOU think THIS is the work of a fair, impartial executive???

then THIS...swept under the Goodell rug of immunity...with impunity..a disgusting embarrassment to the football community...nationwide disgrace..

followed up by THIS outrageous profanity caught on video of Ryan cursing out a Jet fan on national TV as he leaves the field...

Rex Ryan Cursing at Fan (Official) - YouTube

only a 75,000 dollar drop in the bucket for Woody Johnson...as Goodell knows only too well....I must say, ol' Roger the Great sure knows how to get a run amok, rhinoceroid like Ryan in line, eh? Fantastic job...oh well...now back to outlandish ,outrageous fines and destruction of healthy NFL franchises for your beloved Commish...he practically destroys the entire Saints organization in one of the heaviest handed, out of control punitive actions in sports history. What a legacy...meanwhile, more illegal sideline tripping, more slanders and libels uttered ad nauseum by the likes of Westhof the Jet drunk, questions of cap irregularities from last year by the Jets swept under the Goodell magic carpet...funny how these "powers" you so readily cede to Goodell wholeheartedly seem to be dysfunctional when applied to the New York Jets.

Bravo! :rocker: More! More! :singing::singing::singing:

maybe I can get a gig opening up for Lewis Black????

maybe I can get a gig opening up for Lewis Black????

Only in select venues where the crowd is dominated by fans of the Patriots, Bills and Dolphins. Your prospects might be limited, but I guarantee you'd bring the house down.

how do we know it isn't being investigated right now?

We don't, and if it was Im pretty sure the NFL would make that public, the buck stops in NO.
It will probably cost millions to get evidence , knowing computer forensics like I do.

Circumventing the salary cap - penalty 2005 3rd round draft choice

NFL fines Denver for cap violations, broncos, salary, cap - Sports - Colorado Springs Gazette, CO

How is circumventing the salary cap not worse than Spygate and Bountygate?

Goodell needs to be removed as commissioner of the NFL.

are you for real? goodell didn't get to be commissioner till 2 years after this fine was levied, and 7 years after the penalty was committed

some of you people ......

i doubt they'd make it public lol it's an investigation

more persistent than smart, I'm afraid...believe it or not I sorta know what I'm doing with these diatribes...thanks to google, anybody can read my posts on the Goodell/Jets cabal through any number of search permutations. Thanks to the internet, whether people agree or disagree, the more that read my persistent questions the more likely they are to mention the subject in casual discussion...and from there begin to raise questions in THEIR minds as well..the phenomenon has a name...the butterfly effect....butterfly wings in the jungles of Borneo resulting in hurricanes a half a world away...I'm very patient (some here believe I AM a patient)...there has NEVER been any explanation by Goodell for the disparity in fines and sanctions nor his non-actions when the situation practically screams for his intervention (the Ryan foot fiasco). I want someone with the clout, someone with the power, to ask the WHYS that have gone unanswered since 2007...that someone will eventually surface...if enough butterfly wings create enough chaos.

Joker, I never said I was 100% behind the Commissioner or that he was 100% impartial, so if you're going to play that game using that clown of a coach Ryan . . .

I'll be clear one more time: Goodell has been pushing the safety issue for years now, the prospect of multiple lawsuits coming over the concussion issue, the active involvement of coach Williams in the NO bounty system, the pledge of cooperation from the Saints organization, the failure not only to comply but to lie about it to his face.

Those are serious infractions in the face of something that Goodell was obviously pushing very hard. Do that in almost any professional organization that has even a shred of ethics and if the only thing you get is kicked out then you are lucky.

College athletic programs get death sentences all the time. Do they fold? No. Will the Saints fold? Two 2nd round draft picks and the suspension of Payton is going to put this franchise under? Okay. . .

Ryan is an idiot and a fool, I get that. Having a foot-fetish or throwing the bird at a night-club makes him appear as just what he is. Should Goodell discipline that? Is that as bad as what NO did? I guess you think that if it was the Jets that were guilty of these infractions that they would get off lighter. I don't think so . . .

And by the way it was a LOT more than just a memo. . . e.g. Payton CONFIRMED to Goodell that a certain email referred to a bounty on Aaron Rodgers. He openly admitted that that's what it meant.

you want the jets fined a mill and losing a 1st round pick for ryan flipping the bird like he's a teenage poser girl? lol

No..I want Ryan REMOVED from the league altogether....he's an embarrassment to any moral person of any persuasion...you seem to forget, CHILDREN are part of the NFL audience. This open degenerate and his profane, gluttonous and disingenuous lifestyle would appear to be in direct conflict with Goodell's stated mission to clean up the league, make it safer and make the game more appealing to a wider audience. How does a trainwreck like Ryan fit in under the Goodell doctrine?

If you want a circus act, go watch Ringling Bros/Barnum and Bailey...this stain, this ignorant blotch on the fabric of the NFL needs to be washed clean.

That's my point!

Goodell's lust for power has tainted the position of Commissioner of the National Football League.

The punishment for Spygate and Bountygate should be no worse than Capgate.

First time offense for the fat ah er snack man, four game suspension without pay.

........ you're kidding, right?

goodell's whole thing is to not be as big a ***** as former commissioners

So Goodell is a power hungry tyrant handing out excessive punishments and Rex Ryan should be banned from the league for swearing. Just a hint of irony there.

Goodell acts more like King Henry VIII than the president of a republic.
