NFL Free Agency Thread

Dan Roche doesn't seem as convinced on Twitter as Giardi about Rishard Mathews

Someone else tweeted Pats and 2 other teams were looking at him. So they are definatly linked

Anyone hear of Jeff Howe saying earlier that the "Patriots are done in FA?" I was going through a list of tumors and his name was attached to that quote earlier today. Was wondering if this thread mentioned that at any point.
I don't think BB is gonna have his guys working on deals for only 4 hours of free agency and then suddenly say "alright guys, time's up. Roster's final."

I didn't really get the context of it. I'm just going through a list of rumors page and I saw that quote under the Patriots section

Ray Bourque took less to stay in Boston for years. When they traded him so he could possibly win a Cup, and he did, he brought it back to Boston. He got it. Brady is doing the same.

There are plenty of instances of athletes who get it. Amendola restructured so he could stay.
I just think you're being really glib here and massively overgeneralizing about what other people should do.

It was sarcasm in response to a seemingly serious question if the pats were done in fa after signing only that lb today.

Just looked all I see is him retweeting some yahoo writer about how no deal is expected with Matthews tonight and he is still talking to teams which are likely the 3 teams he was linked to earlier (Pats, Titans and Seahawks)

Giradi is saying that his source says Pats are optimistic they can get him

Not sure where Roche not being as convinced is coming from

I know Dan Roche does the commentary for the Pats preseason games for some ungodly reason but isn't he a Red Sox beat guy?

Yeah, I saw the same thing as you but read it quickly and assumed the worst. I'd be happy if we signed Rishard Matthews for the right price. I think he would be a good number 2 receiver. 4 drops on 61 targets sounds good to me

I'm watching some Kearse highlights and I'm starting to want this guy a lot. Possibly more than Matthews.

He's a lot faster than I thought. Lots of clutch catches and nice grabs in tight coverage.

If I gave you 30 million right now, you'd "get" about 18, depending on what state you live in/work in (sometimes less). That's not counting what you'll pay your agent, managers, flunkies, etc.. Like I said, the players (most) understand that it's a business first.

FWIW, one solid that the NFLPA has done for its players (yes, it's gotten many things wrong) is that agent fees on contracts are strictly limited: 3% of standard contracts. And that goes down to 2% on tenders (giving the agent an incentive to negotiate a long-term deal).
