In order to sign those guys they need to create cap space anyway or what is the current cap space after yesterday‘s resignings? I haven’t seen a post on twitter or somewhere else

The exact terms of all the deals haven't been released. It is impossible to know how much cap space they have until they do. They have until I think 4PM Wednesday to get under the top 51 cap.

Chark got less money that Nelson Lol I swear.

Not sure of the logic for Chark. Obviously, the market isn't there for him, but Detroit is not the place I would want to go for an one year prove it deal for him. He was better off taking less and going to a team with a real QB for a year.

This may be a good sign for the Pats if they are looking to add receiver help. The WR market could be weak again this year like last and receivers being forced to take less than they want to one year prove it deals.

Maybe this is fake.
We are stupid.
Honestly Detroit really.
That’s where he goes for a 1 year prove it deal.
Just been confirmed on NFL good morning football programme ...........another one bites the dust !

The Patriots don't really make sense for these mid-level prove-it WRs, because a guy could come in and end up as the #4 behind three capable NFL WRs. In Detroit, Chark is a clear starter over Josh Reynolds and Quintez Cephus.

RA Brown is Better than any receiver we have.
Any word if we were in on Chark til the bitter end?

That is market setting. Before this, the top two highest paid guards got $16 million a year (Thuney and Bitonio). This is $17.5 million.
He had a bit of a down year but jags are desperate
I wouldn’t have signed him for that , rather would went for Armstead and not invest that much money into a guard but they also signed Kirk for huge bucks so they don’t seem to make great value moves on paper anyway

Chark is a 1 here.
But with BB WR evaluating who knows.

As lazar mentioned those one year deals are tough with our current cap space

Chark would have to compete for a job here, and based on his last two seasons would be no guarantee to be the #1, #2, or #3. He's a clear top-2 receiver in Detroit.

I respect you but from a pure talent perspective I respectfully vehemently disagree.

We're onto day two of the legal tampering period. Most of the top free agents are still without new homes. All of the top players cut yesterday are still without new homes. You look at who is still available and it is kinda shocking that these guys weren't signed at 12:01 yesterday like most free agencies. Every day a player isn't signed, the more likely his contract value will drop.

I am kinda surprised at the quality of players signed yesterday and how much or how little some got. Mostly second tier free agents and some of the first tier free agents that signed got less than expected.

I don't think the Pats will turn on the spicket today and start a spending spree anywhere close to last year, but there is still a lot of talent left at several positions of needs that they might begin to fill in holes. They might be able to find some quality free agents who are getting a little nervous and be willing to drop their price.

No one should be surprised. Its a buyers market. Limited $ and basically double FA supply - most contracts last FA were 1y - so its almost entire 2 FA classes in one year. Next year game changes. Id expect lots of 1y deals again even near the top. It will mean big supply of FAs again next yr but it will be met with a ton of $ on the other side to balance it out..

Just simple restructures done by converting salary to a bonus:

Judon- $6.6 million. Henry- $3.95 m

Smith- $5.27 million Mason- $ 2.7 m

Bourne- $1.4 million Andrews-$1.45

Wise - $1.45 million Mills-$1.7 million

Total= $24.52 million of additional cap space

Per OverTheCap, the Patriots are $108 million UNDER the projected 2023 salary cap. $184 million under the projected 2024 cap. There’s plenty of room in those years to push $25 million of unamortized bonus money into their caps.

The Patriots are not poor or cap strapped. Setting aside $10 million for draft pick bonuses, practice squad and in season injury replacements, they would have $15 million available to sign additional players this off-season. Remember, they could sign a Allen Robinson and pay him $17 million this season and have it count only $5.1 million against the 2022 cap.( $16 m bonus amortized over 4 seasons or $ 4 million per season plus his $1.1 million minimum salary)

I did like the fit as well. Everyone else just seems a little too pricey. Would of liked seeing him paired with Mac as a true deep threat. I’m pretty much moving onto the draft now for wr’s.
