Next Stop, the Underwear Olympics

Grid has a 1st round grade on about 100 prospects so far, and he hasn't finished the LBs or touched the DBs yet.

I like Kirksey too, but not enough to single him out.

He has been stellar this year.

If the combine was as irrelevant as you say, they wouldn't do it. Do you really think BB would waste his time with something as relevant "as hopscotch"?

It's much more important than you say. It is not the whole picture, but it is a part, and without it, the picture would not be complete.

BB pretty much said at his presser that the drills aren't of that much interest to him. And you can get 3-cone times from Pro Day workouts. The Combine is very useful to get 90% of the draftable prospects under one roof, eyeball them, interview them, and get medical data on them.

Obviously, some teams feel differently. The Raiders have built their team around the Combine results for ages ... hasn't worked out too well.

Stephen Hill + better coaching might have turned out well.

I agree with that. There are rumors the Jets may "give up" on Hill. I wouldn't mind giving him a look.

I'm not that down on Martavis Bryant. Solid prospect. I'm just suggesting that he is a likely candidate to be over-drafted based on Combine measurables, as Hill was.

I hear you. I just hate it when I see players that I think have potential getting wasted in lousy situations. Yeah, Stephen hill catches the football as if he's greased up his hands with WD-40 first, but I think sticking him with a guy like Brady/Manning instead of Sanchez/Smith could only have been a good thing.

I'm very worried about BB talking to Matt Millen whilst watching WR prospects

If you believe in drills, Odell Beckham just ran the gauntlet beautifully.

Mike Evans 6'5 230 lbs. Second run in the 40 was a 4.78. Kid might be special. Might be a top 10 pick.

Of all the years to have only 1 second round pick. I'd like to see them do a small trade out of 29 and get a low 2nd and 3rd in exchange.

Any small trade ups anyone desires? For me it would be for Donald. I'd love to have John Randle 2.0 on the front line. No one has impressed me more in the last month.

There's nothing wrong with Stephen Hill that can't be fixed, if the worth ethic is there. He was raw coming out, but he's got the size and speed. I can't judge his work ethic. People expect these WRs to step in and become studs immediately. It takes time. Demaryius Thomas' numbers his 1st 2 years weren't that much better than Hill's (both came out of the Georgia Tech system) - Peyton Manning sure made a big difference to Thomas.

I'd like about 10 day 2 picks:

1 WR
1-2 TE
2 OL
1-2 DT
1 DE
1 OLB
1-2 DB

There are a number of receivers I would happily take at 29. I just think the opportunity is there this year to grab a star that perhaps hasn't been there the past few years.

If we can take care of our main needs in free agency we can be free to take a luxury pick in the 1st who can really improve the offense.

I have no interest in Kelvin Benjamin though.

Rich Eisen during the WR drills: do you think they'd ever get the DBs out here at the same time? Mayock pooh-poohed the idea because of injury risk, but I'd love to see a no-contact version where a CB was on the field paired off against the WR. See how well the CB can mirror, see how the WR's do with someone getting their hands up in their face. No contact, minimal risk of injury - guys tweak hammies running drills anyway, that wouldn't change.

More gossip from Tony Pauline:

- Word around Indy is Miami Dolphins offensive tackle Jonathan Martin will eventually be traded but its a question of when. Someone close to the situation told me yesterday, “there are a lot of moving parts.” I get the idea everyone wants to make sure they are covering their you know what.
- Blake Bortles officially announced Monday he would throw at the combine but I was told the strong arm quarterback decided long ago he would participate in the entire combine workout. Throwing at the combine was never a question in Bortles’ mind.
- I’m told the Cincinnati Bengals may have to cut Carlos Dunlap in order to create the salary cap room necessary to sign a number of other highly considered players on their roster about to hit free agency.
- The feeling from the combine says the Atlanta Falcons have a 50/50 chance of re-signing starting center Joe Hawley.
- LaMarr Woodley’s contract s likely to make re-signing Jason Worilds very difficult if not impossible. I’m told at least at least a dozen teams here at the combine have expressed great interest in Worilds if he hits free agency.
- In conversations here in Indy its apparent the quarterbacks stack up 1) Bortles, 2) Bridgewater, 3) Carr, 4) Manziel on a number of team boards.
- Last night at dinner with a few scouts I learned that an FBI profiler was brought in to review the interview tapes of Aaron Hernandez from the 2010 combine. The profiler pointed out a number of signs during the interview which would’ve raised red flags had he seen it in 2010; body language, the way Hernandez answered questions, his body language answering questions. Bottom line is more teams will bring in profilers to review these interview tapes.

Combine News & Notes: Sunday

If the Bengals cut Dunlap, he would move to the top of my FA DE list. He'd be phenomenal in a rotation with Jones and Ninkovich.

Shocker!

@cpriceNFL: South Dakota LB Tyler Starr--who wants to break the combine record for the 3-cone--tells me he's had an informal meeting with the #Patriots.

I'd love Dunlap too, but if we had an option who would you choose between Dunlap and Michael Johnson?

Dunlap without question. He has the versatility to play outside in a 3-4 at times, or to kick inside on passing downs, and he'd make an ideal strongside 4-3 DE. But I'd be happy with either.

I can't see it happening, BTW. According to overthecap.com, cutting Dunlap saves only $2.2M in cap space for the Bungles, and results in a $6.4M dead money hit.

I just thought I'd toss out a couple of scenarios, to see where people stood:

Draft Tuitt
Sign Tyson Jackson

That gives the Patriots 3-4 personnel, but requires Chandler to play some OLB in base.

Any takers?

Draft Nix
Sign Tyson Jackson

That gives the Patriots mostly 3-4 personnel, but requires the Patriots to find a way to protect Chandler on 1st down.

Any takers?
