The Buttfumble (sometimes rendered "Butt Fumble" or "OH GOD OH GOD I CAN'T BREATHE HAHAHAHA") Game was real, not a dream.

Yet it was MAGICAL.

Words can't describe what it was like to watch it unfold live, but God bless Wikipedia for trying.

In front of the home crowd of over 79,000 fans at MetLife Stadium and a primetime television audience of over 20 million, Jets quarterback Mark Sanchez collided with the butt of his teammate, offensive lineman Brandon Moore, causing a fumble, which was then recovered by the Patriots' safety Steve Gregory and returned for a touchdown. The play was the centerpiece of a disastrous sequence in the second quarter, wherein the Jets lost three fumbles and the Patriots scored three touchdowns—one each on offense, defense, and special teams—all in the span of 52 seconds of game time. In that second quarter, the Jets held the ball for over 12 minutes (out of a possible 15), but managed to be outscored 35–3.

Later, a deep-dive forensic analysis focuses on the key question: "Why is he heading for that butt?"

However, the Butt Fumble is merely the peak moment in a sustained wave of hilarity that saw the Patriots possibly score more points in less time than any team in history. The cascade of shame starts with what would be a depressing lowlight in any normal game, a comical 4th-and-short fumble promptly followed by zero-effort pass by Brady that goes the length of the field through sheer defensive ineptitude. Here it's merely an appetizer for the Buttfumble main course, which is itself followed by another disastrous turnover-to-touchdown play that maybe foreshadowed Edelman's future greatness, but at the time was just comedy gold

The cascade of joy really begins at around the 55 minute mark here:

Never forget.

Also, I have to give ESPN credit here for once: they kept bringing up the Buttfumble in the Not Top 10 segments of SportsCenter, did a Sports Science special on the physics of the collision between face and giant ass, and eventually retired it from the Not Top 10 only to BRING IT BACK AGAIN OUTTA NOWHERE.

Quality sports journalism.

Are you new here or something?

Nah, it just makes me feel good to remember the Butt Fumble game sometimes.

It was just such a perfect moment of natural comedy.
Truth. There was a YouTube video (or something like that) of it set to the theme of Benny Hill that kept me in stitches every time I saw it.
