NE v TEN pre-game discussion

Starting offense better get some good reps tonight.

An under .500 team acting like their a top team in the AFC.

I think it's far more likely that we don't see many starters due to health concerns. As much as I'd love to see the first string play (and perform well), I get it if they want to give players time to recover.

No injuries. No whammies.

When there were 4 games it was a bottom of roster game. With only 3 it's been a tune-up game, now there's only 2 years of trends to follow obviously but that has been the case.
Last year in game 3 Zappe got most of the snaps as QB3, then Hoyer and then Mac in that order. If it's the same model then I guess Cunningham/McSorely will get most of the snaps and maybe a few for Zappe and even fewer for Mac if he even plays at all.

NESN just released an article based on a Reiss report that its unlikely to see most of the starters especially Mac given how much of a beating he took last week behind the patchwork line.

Hope it's a good game for you guys , time difference and lack of coverage over here saves me a very late night.

I wouldn't be surprised if Zappe plays 2.5/3 quarters tonight, assuming Mac doesn't play. Its hard to understand McSorely not getting a single rep in the final practice before the game if they expected him to play tonight.

Whoever of the projected starters on our offensive Line not on a PUP or NFI list and not named David Andrews needs to start and play through the first half if necessary... except for the Bear, none of the others rates being bubble-wrapped.

I hope McSorely doesn't play tonight at all. This needs to be a Zappy/Cunny game all the way.

Yeah, that selection was a "whhhaaaat" kind of pick. It wasn't surprising. Folk's KO's were costing the Pats serious field position after scores. But in the 4th? I've aways thought the Pats didn't keep 2nd day draft picks, just because they were drafted in the second round. Nick has been a great FG kicker inside the 50, and didn't suck inside 55. He looks just as solid this spring and summer, while the kid has been slightly more inconsistent.

However he's fighting a losing battle. The Pats aren't going to throw away a 2nd day pick who has the POTENTIAL to add 10 yds to our FG range AND put it into the endzone every time they want it there. I hope both play tonight.

Just a thought I'd like to throw out there.

The Cardinals just trade Josh Johnson to the Texans. He's an OT who has had over 20 starts for them, for a 7th rounder and a name I've seem mentioned on this board as a possible upgrade to our OL room. I have NO idea how good or bad this kid is, but my first reaction was DAMNED, here was an experienced OT we could have gotten for almost nothing.

THEN, another thought occurred to me. Maybe, just maybe the Pats brass just might be OK with the group they have now and the inconsistencies of the OL the entire preseason WILL be worked out over the course of the season. I don't know. It made me feel a bit better about the OL and the physical situation with Strange and Owenu.

We are really only one guy short of a very good starting OL, assuming Owenu and Strange will be ready to start week 1. 2 depth guys and I RT are what we need to emerge in order to solidify the line. Reps are what they need and reps will be gotten in this game. That's why I will record it. We need to see if Sow, Mafi, Andrews, etc are improving their play. Not necessarily playing mistake free, but showing incremental steps forward.

I think it is a mistake not to play the 1s at least for a quarter or a half. With the Eagles coming to town to open the season, the Oline needs as much practice as possible.

Yes and No.

First, we don't have our starters ready to play (Strange and Onwenu).

Second, still 16 days to kick off....that means about 7-8 more practices vs. the Patriots D/Scout D.

Third, we would risk our OL-men getting hurt as well.

I wish we were able to draft a punter that could handle kick offs.....oh well....

And yes...the kid makes it and Folk probably goes elsewhere....there are a lot of unsettled kicking game situations across the league.

Play Malik 60 minutes at QB

The counter-argument is that if he does well then that increases the chance of him not making the PS.

Right now he's shown nothing as receiver plus one drive against backups to go with his college QB career after which he went undrafted. So very unlikely any team is going to commit to having him on their roster for 3 games. Lots of teams might want him on their PS though.

They need to go 2-2 in First Four they could go 0-4 Tough Start. Don't like those early back to back road games.
We've started slow last few seasons, outside of 2021, we ended up playing catch up all season. The AFC has NEVER been this stacked up.. there very well could end up being an 11 win team in AFC that doesn't make the playoffs.. starting fast, being aggressive should be the mindset. As your aware the schedule is as tough as I can remember us as having one.
