Right, but that's the point - teams wildly overinflate the relative value of high end picks.

I don't know that it's that general though. I mean, has there ever been a team that traded up because it increases their odds of getting "a" better player with an earlier pick? Don't they always have one specific player in mind?

So, maybe it's more that teams wildly over-inflate the value of the one specific player who they want?

I'm very glad to have him back. I think Waddle moves to the LT position and we keep Cannon on the right side.

As other posters have said, now we can keep our draft focused on the defensive side.

So, focusing on D in the draft we're going with the Tom Plays Till 45 strategy and drafting a QB in '19 or '20?

Seriously, I'd still take a quality OT if one falls to 31. Plan to take a QB in 2019.

Let’s not forget we gave won SBs with the likes of Greg Robinson Randall, tom ashworth and Brandon Gorin as starting tackles.

The point being whoever steps into this spot will probably be more frightening than the result turns out to be.

This brings to mind the lack of respect that Russ Hochstein received from Warren Sap leading up to one SB. Russ had the last laugh though.

There's no doubt in my mind that, unless a LT is chosen by #63, and as PatsFanKen & others have suggested, either Cannon or Thuney will be switched to LT and that Waddle will be competing for the starting RIGHT Tackle position.

To me, the all caps title highlights the fact that 'Waddle' is an unfortunate name for a NFL player to have.

That should give Garcia time to bulk back up again and see what he can contribute. It also more than likely eliminates a tackle from being drafted this year which can allow the team to concentrate more on the defense in the draft.

Especially with cannon signed thru 2021.
Garcia in place as potential, waddle the stop gap and go from there. If Garcia doesn’t progress OT will be on the draft list next year.

We have Cannon and Waddle, with Garcia and Croston competing for backup spots and some feel as though we’re now set at the position. I disagree.

I think OT is on the list of draft day targets, likely with one of our first three selections.

If you exclude the blue chippers that are usually gone after the top 10 or 15 depending on how many QBs are taken, I believe that the remaining players on day 1 are not necessarily more talented than those on day 2 or very early day 3 (i.e. round 4). They are just more pro ready in most cases and you pay a premium (earlier draft pick) for getting someone that can start way sooner than his counter parts that are drafted later.

In their second year -- after their first real full NFL offseason -- there is often no real difference anymore between those players. Again, blue chipper are obviously excluded from that but there are only so many of those each year and you need to tank your season to be in a position to get one of them.

In our case you might get a OT that can start earlier if you get e.g. Kolton but if you have he luxury of letting players develop a year you can maybe get a better fit still in a later round.

Thats because a certain segment of posters on this board is just awful at evaluating players. People see a OL getting beat and it is automatically his fault even though there could be a dozen reasons for why that player was blocking with a certain technique (e.g. expecting help, expecting RB/TE to chip, a quick pass was called so you can sell out...).

Who doesnt remember the ****storm that broke over Cannon in 2015 despite playing with a foot injury. The vitriol from people when in some of the mini rewatch threads (or Chatham video threads) people suggested that his issues might have been related to being injured and poor coaching. The same thing happened last year around camp when again some people suggested to cut Waddle, even though having a veteran swing tackle is pretty valuable.

People see a backup (or ST) and automatically assume its a garbage player for whatever reason. It is laughable. The worst part is how the opinion of Solder has flip-flopped around like 2-3 times in the last year.

From him being overrated, to being one of the better LT in the league, to becoming suicidal over the Pats not resigning him for 16m APY and finally arriving back again at overrated.

The smaller the drafting gap between players, the smaller the difference between player success. That's not really news, though.

Couldn't agree more. If you have an insurance named Cannon on the right flank do not change it. Moving him to the left side is a last resort to me.Now Waddle is back, Garcia can continue his playing as a pro. Let's take some support in a draft and move on.
