N’Keal Harry Requests Trade

Agholor replaces Byrd at that speed flanker position, Bourne provides depth in the slot now that Edelman retired... where are all the new WR's?

The problem with this argument is that the flanker position doesn’t necessarily need to be a speedy receiver in this offense. The offense has used flankers (and split ends, for that matter) in the past that weren’t consistent vertical threats. Harry was drafted for this role, but he can’t cut it because he can’t separate. If he could, you wouldn’t see Agholor signed. The E-P makes use of shorter routes (particularly screens and slants) for the Z. The team clearly didn’t even think Harry was good enough to do that.

Meyers is considered our WR1 by most media members and PFF or the NFL declared he was a top 20 WR.

Yep. You’ll remember that he didn’t get as many snaps at the beginning of 2020 because Harry was getting those snaps. Harry proceeded to do… nothing of note, really… and Meyers emerged. Excellent decision by the coaching staff.

Gunner is an All Pro returner waiting his turn for receiving opportunities... hell, our best wide receivers might be the returning ones.

If Cam is the QB it won't really matter, they'll only throw the ball 12 times a game anyway.

I agree that Harry asking for a trade is weak sauce. If this team gets a real QB, a lot of these receivers will magically look a lot better.

That’s the hope. But it won’t be Harry because he won’t even be here. He was no lock to make the team by any stretch of the imagination. He knew that, which is why he’s asking for a trade.

Not So Good
Antwaan Randle El (10-year vet, solid #3 receiver and great ST player, 1x all-pro, 5,000 career rec yards)
Emmanuel Sanders (2X pro bowl, 8,500 career receiving yards, 50 TDs)
randle el - forget his name, look at his game in pittsburgh... tell me if he put those numbers up here he wouldnt have been lambasted... but fine, move him up to good... the point is still made... 50% of the steelers wr picks are plain busts ... and thats a ****ing crapshoot

emmanuel sanders didnt take off until he left pittsburgh, hooked up with manning... otherwise, jag

the point deus tried to make was ridiculous... he took a bunch of **** and threw it on the wall hoping everyone would take his word, no one would look at it...

Happens all the time. The key is the team needs to give permission to the player/agent to see a trade.

Recently Philly granted Ertz permission to seek a trade. That is not tampering
But have the Pats given permission? And if so, doesn't that have to be in the public domain?

They didn’t draft 4.5 forty N’Keal to stretch the field, that’s just a poor take.

Jakobi missed the beginning of last season because he missed the last couple weeks of camp with a shoulder injury and wasn’t healthy when the season began. Patriots notebook: WR Jakobi Meyers in fight to make final roster

Harry could be gone and they could still be really good at passing the ball assuming Mac is good. Much like they were the last twenty years despite only taking 3 WR’s in the top three rounds of the draft.

I do not know if they have and yes it does.

Santonio Holmes also had similar stats to Edelman year in year out and was also a Super Bowl MVP. Dionte Johnson had almost 1000 yards in 15 games last year in his second season. Hell Jackson, Dobson, and Harry would kill for the careers that Martavis Bryant and Markus Wheaton had.

This makes sense, but don't you think the agent heard the same message? And yet he tweeted.
I don't have a problem with the agent doing HIS job. Based on the reported friction between Cam and Harry's footwork coach and thus Harry. it makes perfect sense to TRY and leverage a move away from Cam.

Listen it really doesn't matter. Bill isn't going to act on any agent's "demands" in the first place and Harry hasn't given any indication that he isn't going to do anything other than come to camp and compete. So while somewhat interesting this is the typical kind of story which occurs druing the dead time between OTA's and camp. A time where anything CLOSE to interesting is set upon by the media like a dead antelope by a pack of starving hyenas

Straw man argument. I never said they drafted him to stretch the field. I said they drafted him with an eye toward playing the Z. Two different things. His agent said he was a “dominant deep threat.” Not me.

In the games Meyers played at the beginning of the year, he didn’t exceed 11% of the offensive snaps while Harry was upwards of 80%. In the 49ers game/debacle, Meyers’ snaps shot in to 79% while Harry’s dropped to 11%. When the two were able to get on the field in the same game after that, Meyers had more snaps than Harry by a wide margin (sometimes playing on 100% of the offensive snaps). Meyers supplanted Harry

Harry could be gone and they could still be really good at passing the ball assuming Mac is good. Much like they were the last twenty years despite only taking 3 WR’s in the top three rounds of the draft.

No doubt. The “weaponz” take by Chatham was another horribly bad take. Massive L on that one. Says weapons weren’t the biggest need and the first thing the Pats do is… go out and sign weapons. Harry no longer has an open path to being part of the offense. Given what he was able to, uh, “contribute,” since he’s been drafted, it stands to reason that they won’t see a decline in the passing game with him gone.

Apparently Giants have tried to trade for Harry before. If they have any draft busts of their own that we liked in the draft, I think we pull the trigger.

Bottom line, he is a bust. It happens, unfortunately a lot to the Pats when it comes to receivers. They really need to bring someone in who knows what the hell they’re are doing when it comes to receivers.

That being said, he was rated as a 1st round pick, I had one draft guide had him as the best receiver, and the others had him as no lower as the #3 receiver in the draft (but still rated as a 1st round pick). So I’d say 100% of this falls on Harry. My favorite was Metcalf, and most had him rated as the best receiver, somehow he lasted to the last pick of round 2 (originally OUR pick, used it to trade up for SlowJuan Williams, oy vey !).

I'd take Barkley str8 up for Harry, Michel and a 6th rounder from the Pats

So you've got no real argument, then, and are just flailing about. You really thought one injury at the start of his rookie season would be a good comp to a guy who's lost his first two seasons to injury? And, then, you thought the way to go was to compare him to Wynn, who's not a guy people want moved for a conditional 7th?

You need to quit while you're way behind.
No real argument to a myopic know-it-all, no.

Take care now.

Joe Judge was his position coach in 2019....

Metcalf fell in the eyes of some because people were judging on an all or nothing scale with him. "Yeah, he's great at catching the ball, has great explosion, and is a physical freak, but his route tree is limited, because he's not particularly nimble" is really what it was all about. So, basically, he was knocked down as an OWR because he didn't have SlotWR quicks.

In his case, the high floor was ignored in favor of a theoretically lower ceiling.

In Harry's case, the low floor was ignored in favor of a theoretically low ceiling that was overhyped as a higher ceiling.

It doesn't make sense, but here we are.

You're trying to equate what's not fairly equatable. I'm not sure why you think it takes a "know-it-all" to figure that out.

Player 1: Essentially no time to show himself, due to repeated injuries.
Player 2: Had a slow start due to injury. Has since had a slew of games to demonstrate his ability, and has failed.

Campbell was injured in his second game last year, and was lost for the season, and you tried to equate that to a guy who played the entire year, and who has played in 12 more games just in 2 seasons. Don't go flipping hostility to me over that. Just acknowledge that it was a terrible attempt at a comp and move on.

Maybe it's the draftnik in me but I wouldn't get too worked up over a bust. It's not replacing him or being trigger shy that bothers me. You miss on one in the first, make up for it in the 3rd. I suppose we did that with Meyers but it's been a long, painstaking road.
