MNF pregame thread: Pats @ Buffalo

Why would Buff have anymore to lose than the pats?

Because the Pats are a 1/2 game ahead of Buffalo (1 more win), and Buffalo is at home (where a team is supposed to win), and Buffalo in on the road next Sunday to play Tampa in Tampa while the Pats are on their Bye. If Buffalo loses and goes a full game down on the Pats, and maybe even 2 full games with a loss at Tampa, they are in a tough hole. If the Pats lose, they can regroup over their Bye, and beat Buffalo at home in three weeks to fully recover.

But the Patriots LOST to the Dolphins. If the Bills lose in Gillette, but take care of business at home...and against the Jets in week 18...they'll be 5-1 in the division and we will be 4-2. So, by losing on MNF...we pretty much need to run the table and hope the Bucs beat the Bills...which is no gimme given the Bucs poor secondary.

Just win on MNF....and take it one game at a time....

It’s exactly this. If we don’t win Monday, then winning the division likely requires us ending the season 4-0 and the bills losing to the Bucs.

Going back to second place which is a dark, dark place for them, psychologically speaking. They were there 20 years and they allegedly thought they would be free as of it last year, so if they do fall to second place again, I envision much gnashing and weeping in darkness.

Definitely, this game and this season mean alot more to Buffalo than us imo for psychological purposes. They ought to be desperate for this one. If we dont get the division we could still take alot away from this season (assuming we dont have a complete meltdown or catastrophic finish).

If the Bills lose at home, then they are a 1.5 games behind the Pats with equal division loses. That leaves one game between them in Foxboro. I think the question was does this game mean more to the Bills or the Patriots? It is clearly very important to both, but the Bills are in a bit of a deeper hole if they lose than the Pats. That is not saying it is OK for the Pats to lose, just that it is a bit worse on Buffalo if they lose.

Fourth, actually, statistically speaking.

This is how it should be - if this edition of the team, like those before it, is worthy of the division title, they will earn it without need of help.

Pressure is on Buffalo, they were crowned before the season even started. Now they’re in a fight to win the division.

My own personal heirarchy of franchise hatred, most to least:

Indianapolis - Deflategate liars, Manning rump swabs
NY Jets - Just a pathetic franchise, top to bottom
Buffalo - obnoxious little brother syndrome for 20 years running
Baltimore - so, so, SO full of themselves, worship a murderer, whiny coach
Miami - pathetic, but a thorn in our backside too often, especially down there in December, clinging to 1970s glory, Shula was a mouthy tool
Pittsburgh - see Baltimore, so, so, SO full of themselves, won titles this century only with unprecedented help by refs and when Brady's knee was blown out, yet still think it's the 70s.
Kansas City - Once a nothing burger, but the media Mahomes love fest and his obnoxious girlfriend have them rising
Raiders - also full of themselves for 1980s achievements and still irrationally salty about the Tuck Rule
NY Giants - dropping down the list, since 2014, 2016, 2018 have eased the pain
Green Bay - Just so sick of Aaron Rodgers
Denver - more of a problem than they should have been. over the years, Peyton added a stench
Cleveland- enough of the Baker commercials, for one totally average QB
Dallas - the most full of themselves, but less often an issue since their most recent titles were in the Jurassic era
everyone else

thats a pretty good hate list!

I'd probably just swap Miami/Buffalo, Raiders/Green Bay and move the Giants and Dallas up, but other than that its like we're mind twins!

Have to start fast….the first quarter may determine the outcome. If they get behind 10-14 points early, the crowd will be going nuts and it will be very difficult to push the boulder back up the hill. They can’t revert to giving up a long drive for a TD on defense on the Bills first possession, as they have been apt to do for much of the season.

Shake the Bills’ confidence with a surgical first drive, exposing their White-less CB crew and mediocre run D, then force a couple of three and outs on D and Allen will likely get impatient and start making ill-advised throws downfield, with JC and co. picking up his garbage.

Pitt is still right up there with me - even though the team today in 2021 even with Tomlin is somewhat more likeable.

For lots of reasons.

Their fans. Trashes us for "cheating" and they still think their steroid teams weren't cheating, that Dr Richard Rydze wasn't on their payroll and the refs didn't give them the SB in 2005 and lot of other reasons. Bryan O'Leary - the author of "Spygate the Untold story". Steelers fan.

The team booking their tickets to New Orleans before the 2002 AFCCG. Then whining and crying that the "better team didn't win"

Joey "0 tackles" Porter whining about the Patriots cheating

The total lack of respect the 2001 SB Champs got before the 2002 season opener both from the Steelers and the media.

Filthy hit on Brady in the 2002 AFCCG and then trying to Mo Lewis Bledsoe later in the game

Bernard Pollard Fan Club. That was started by Steelers fans. Nuff said.

The reverence that team gets both in HOF voting and for a "dynasty" that is over 40 years past it’s expiry date.

Trippy Tomlin whining about the headsets after losing to the Pats and hinting the Pats did something

Anthony Smith

Ben's injury drama queen act

One of my favorite Brady memories is scoring a TD on a 4 yard run then seeing a bunch of chirping fans in Heinz field he went over and spiked the ball in front of them and stared back. Love it!

the weather at game tiime, wind and cold, could impact the scoring in this game. The team that can run it effectively would seem to have an advantage as would the QB who is deft at short, crisp passes. We MAY be looking at a game with favorable odds for our Pats. On Monday, I had the Bills 34-17 with this ref crew being a main influencer. Biting cold and wind makes it a "let's get the eff out of Dodge" game for everyone involved, especially the ref crew. Just my opinion formed from 60 years of watching these late season December games.

Greg Cosell analysis of the game with MSG W NY

The weather will likely be major. possible Lake effect snow showers, 20-30 mph winds in the current forecast. Big Challenge for Mac playing in those conditions. Allen used to Buffalo weather bigger arm easier to get ball through air. OL needs to step up a bully the Bills.

I work with a Bills fan and this is 100% true
