Patriots Injury News Milton Williams "Could Miss Multiple Weeks" [update: IR, out at least 4 weeks]

Milton is one of those irreplaceable guys... at playoff time. Now not so much. Given what some other teams have gone through it is hard to believe some are complaining about one injury to a key player, when we have 2 upcoming games that are winnable even if Josh Dobbs was the QB.

If he is out until Buffalo, it will be a good time to work on the developing of the rotation as Durden, Farmer and Tonga will split the 40-50 snaps that Williams got.

Durden and Tonga have been solid contributors and while the rushing pressure will diminish some, the run defense should remain stout. Also, it will afford Farmer some more run, and I'd like to see if he will show enough that he might develop into MORE than a Tonga or Durden type player. Not that that's a bad thing for a 5th round pick, but I'd like to see at least some flashes that he COULD develop into something more in the future,

And/or Durden time... Farmer too if he's ready to go...
You mean guys who have been regularly getting snaps up to this point?? *SMH* Do you even WATCH the games?

Durden is getting almost 17 Defensive snaps a game. He's seen 30 and 34 snaps the last two games.
Farmer is getting almost 17 defensive snaps a game. He seen 19 and 16 snaps the last two games.
Gregory saw 15 snaps against the Jets.
Tonga has been averaging 24 Defensive snaps a game, but that includes a 28 against Tampa and 31 against the Jets

Williams 36 snaps a game will be divided between Tonga, Durden, Famer and Gregory. We may also see the Pats bring up Pharms or Leonard Taylor III.

Pats haven't really been hurt by the injuries yet but...

Directionally agree BUT I do think you are underestimating this Cincy team on offense and possibly overestimating the Pats Defense.

They already struggled to generate pressure WITH Williams.

ANY NFL QB can find open guys with 5-6 seconds to stand there. Flacco isn’t mobile but can absolutely still sling it and they have weapons.

Makes sense that he misses Bengals and Giants and then after the bye is back for Bills. Will hurt against Bengals and Dart can move around well but Pats offense should put a lot of points up against both.
They have some good depth on the line at least but nobody than can replace his pass rush.

Surprised a bit because he came back in for 2 plays after injuring and looked fine.
Jeremy Fowler is right less than a stopped clock.

He uses the infamous anonymous source.

We should outscore both the Bengals and Giants.

FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUDGE!

Clearly he will not be ready for the Bengals, which is the more dangerous opponent. And if we need him to beat the Giants, that's on us.

Frankly I will choose to see this as a good thing. Give bigger roles to Farmer and Durden. They have looked good in smaller snaps sizes this year. Let's see what they can do when put to the test with a larger role. Let's see what our depth her looks like in extended playing time.

That way we know for sure if we want to address it or not in FA or with a more valuable more valuable draft pick.

Actually great point. If these dudes can get dangerous via more experience that only helps the long-term.

But even if the unthinkable happens and NE loses BOTH games, they are still 9-4, go into a bye, get healthy.

I’m not concerned.

If it was Gonzo I’d be worried he’d be done for the year.

I’m just glad it’s not season ending. Giving a big guy like that a few weeks off before the stretch run and playoffs isn’t the worst thing in the world.

He did return, though, didn't he? Or was it that he returned to the sideline but just didn't see the field? I don't really remember.
Apparently went in for 2 more plays after the injury. They shouldn't have even allowed him to do that.

here are the defensive snap counts...

Seems was nothing serious and now this...
A bad news

Don’t think anyone is complaining about the injury. It’s an unpredictable injury with timetables that are hard to predict. As a player, coach or fan these can be very frustrating and linger for entire seasons. We’ve been lucky with injuries thus far, knock on every periodic element associated with wood.

So Fowlers prediction is he could miss several weeks which means he could miss no time or he could miss one week.

This mfer tried to go back in and play against a dogshit team on a high ankle sprain.

These kids are completely bought-in.
No replacement for Milt.. but we have depth on the D line.. Barmore, Tonga, farmer, durden..rest him up for as long as he needs.. the post season is what matters.

Would be a big blow. Vrabel and co. built a pretty well rounded roster but I think the thing that’s going to hold them back is the lack of high end talent. Maye/Gonzo/Williams are the only straight DAWGS on their team that are just too good for the opponents. The rest of the team is more average/ok/decent than it is great. It’s not even just about time missed for Williams, it’s more about if he comes back a reduced version of himself for the rest of the year. They really need him running at peak effectiveness for the playoffs to turn this nice regular season run into a real Super Bowl push IMO.

Gregory also made a big play in the game. Vrabel and Cowden have been amassing quite the collection of athletic DTs with upside.
Our DC is a recently promoted Defensive Line Coach. They built our D around the line.
