The Author of that Article is extremely Late To The Party.
And he pours out Statistics to support his Argument, which is reasonable of course. And arguing against his tardy Argument with Statistics is equally reasonable, obviously. Statistics can be invaluable.
01 ~ But I, for one, believe that many crucial Aspects of FootBall are difficult to accurately measure.
02 ~ The Impact of a struggling ~ or in our case: relatively struggling ~ Offense on a Defense's Production is in my opinion vastly underrated. Our Offense, while still competitive ere the last couple of months, has certainly not been the marauding Force that it usually is, due to the ridiculous number of Injuries that've beset us. Consequently, I believe ~ I don't know if anyone's got these Statistics ~ that this Year's Defense has been subjected to far worse Starting Field Position than usual and has, I suspect, spent far more time on the Field than it usually does, as a direct result of our Offensive struggles, and I would argue that its Statistics have been significantly and negatively impacted by these circumstances, producing Results that would've been considerably better with an healthy Offense ~ such as we've usually had in other Years.
03 ~ And lest we forget: Our Special Teams's uncharacteristic Freak Out against Philly distorted our overall Statistics significantly enough to cost us, probably, a few places in Overall Defense. Why Special Teams Statistics ~ or Offensive Statistics like Pick 6's ~ are reflected in Overall Defense is beyond me.
More importantly, though, at least as I see it...
04 ~ Do we measure a QuarterBack's Value by TouchDowns...or by how he does after New Year's Day?
05 ~ And if the latter ~ y'all know that that's my Answer ~ how does one measure that?
06 ~ Likewise: However we might grade this Defense ~ and it's certainly both useful and enjoyable to update and refine our Assessments as the Year develops ~ I would argue that everything that has transpired ere the last 15 Games and the one to come this weekend are but preliminary indicators.
07 ~ Others will grade this Defense as they like. For me: The Only Games That Really Matter begin next weekend...and it's based above all on our Performances in those Games ~ when we see the Finished Product resulting from all the Work that our Defense has put in together all Year ~ that I will judge them.
