Coaches can and have been carried by great players. Great players make the coach’s job easier.

There’s never been a team where terrible players were carried by their coach to greatness. That isn’t a thing. Doesn’t happen in this league or any sport.

There have been COUNTLESS teams where terrible players were carried by their coach to respectability. In ALL sports, including football.

I said greatness not respectability and even that much is questionable. How has an all time great head coach done after Brady left the Patriots?

Coaches coach, players execute.

Yes great players can make the coach’s job easier. Don’t you think a great coach can make a players job easier by having them prepared and presenting them a great game plan? I think it works both ways.

You don't even believe what you write otherwise you wouldn't spend so much time hating Bill. Either that or your just a troll.

I like how I'm living rent free in at least two people's heads here. I don't think about you or that other guy at all.
Mine too but in my head you are wearing a thong and pasties.... Please change your attire.

You're really aren't in my head I just saw a comedic relief opportunity and took it by the balls...damn never mind

How has an all-time great quarterback like Aaron Rodgers done with poor coaching in New Jersey?

OF COURSE coaches coach and players execute. But who teaches those players HOW to execute? Good coaching is indispensable to good team play.

Would it be too greedy to ask for both to be gone?

Not at all. Any GM should be able to turn a 3-14 team around in 6 months, and Wolf has had 9 months. Patriot fans aren’t being unreasonable morons for calling for his head, they just want the Patriots be run the way the Jets are run.

Actually the Jets are notorious for making the mistake of keeping coaches and GMs too long.
Seeing the suck that Wolf, Mayo and the coordinators have been and making the right decision to get rid of them before they do more damage is the most UNJETLIKE thing that could happen.

If we sat down and made a list of all of Wolfs decisions and looked at the assets he had to work with (cap, draft picks, tradable players or picks) the list would probably be over 50 decisions.
I can point to Maye as a good one.
I cannot think of another good one.
I could name dozens that were poor.

It’s not about how long he has had to turn the team around, it’s about evaluating how good he is at the decisions that go into turning a team around and recognizing he sucks at it. Why let him make another year of decisions? That would be running things the way the Jets do.

The Patriots fans want the Patriots to be run the way the Commanders are run. Last year the Commanders were 4 - 13, the same as the Patriots. The Commanders gutted their front office and coaching staff and brought in a new team. The Commanders are now 8 - 5. The Patriots went with leftovers Wolf and Mayo. The Pats leftovers team is 3 - 10, not 8 - 5. How can that be?

Sarcastic hyperbole much?

On this coaching-player debate, I remember something Belichick once said about Brady. He said that Brady deviated from a key play and went to a checkdown, while Belichick thought they had the play set-up for huge yardage. As Brady came back to the sideline, Belichick asked Brady what happened. Brady replied that a series of things happened. Apparently, in the 2 seconds after the snap, Brady processed 7 different things happening all over the field. Belichick said that when they watched the tape the next night, not only was Brady absolutely right that the 7 things happened, but they happened in the exact same sequence that Brady relayed them.

Belichick said he was learning from Brady.

So, he had a another discussion with Brady. For several years, he had been teaching Brady and the WRs to look for how the DEs were moving immediately after the snap, because it was always an immediate tell as to what a certain defense was going to do on the play, and all you had to do was key-in on the DE. It would tell you everything.

Brady told him that the last thing he can see is what the DE is doing and that Belichick's coaching there was almost useless. Belichick had gone over a ton of tape in order to be able to know exactly what was coming based on this read. Brady told him, "That may be, but it doesn't help us on the field." Belichick said because of that he scrapped it and never bothered looking at it again, even though for the coaches they could tell immediately what was going to happen.

This to me shows how Belichick will never allow any stone to be unturned, but he will absolutely listen and learn from players like Brady which allows him to better use his obsessive compulsive time on more productive things.

The two of them were out there mastering the game of football in a way we will likely never see again, although I have to say that what Andy Reid does with the offense and Mahomes is truly masterful as well.

The issue is great players can out talent bad players with mediocre and unimaginative plays and game management. A great coach can help players hit their potential, but if their potential is already low, it doesn't matter.

Scar for instance isn't going to be able to "fix" this line because the talent is awful. He can make them slightly better, but they are still going to be a liability. Good plays are not going to make our WR's beat coverage and more consistent at catching balls.

Arians can win a Super Bowl when you load up his team despite imo being very mediocre. We all saw what happened with the talent level the last few years and how it got the GOAT HC fired.

The Commanders have a much easier schedule this year. These are their wins.

2-10 Giants
4-8 Bengals
6-6 Cardinals
3-9 Panthers
4-8 Bears
2-10 Giants
3-9 Titans

The Patriots would have more wins if they also had the Giants twice, the Banthers and Cardinals and Bears on their schedule. We also did beat the Bengals. We lost to the Titans which is the only common game they did better.

According to Sharpe 2024 NFL Strength Of Schedule, Teams Ranked for Regular Season

We currently have the Hardest strength of schedule in the NFL this year. The Commanders have the 12th easiest.

That's a big part of it. Wolf is a massive problem though. The Patriots have a huge issue with getting talent on offense and now that he has control, the longer Wolf goes without solving that issue, the more he's going to look complicit in the mistakes of the last regime. Polk is a big ****ing miss either way you cut it.

Sarcastic hyperbole much?

Not at all. The people calling for Wolf’s head are morons. No one can turn a 3-14 team around in less than a season, and trashing draft picks because of their rookie season is idiotic. The **** people are talking here is as stupid as it gets. It reflects a fan base that is so spoiled that they can’t handle the idea of a rebuild, and demand instant success or heads will roll. It’s exactly what pushes the worst franchises to do what they do, hire and fire over and over, and make stupid rash decisions to overpay players out of desperation.

Mayo may improve next year, I wouldn't say he's a literal moron incapable of learning.

But that's not the issue here. The issue is, yes, he's extremely green. And many posters here (not myself included, admittingly) called it from the jump: this guy has absolutely no experience and the Patriots are in a situation that seems to necessitate experience.

I can't really think of a more difficult position for an HC - hey, follow in the footsteps of the greatest coach and the greatest QB and countless SB appearances and wins, only after said greatest coach torched everything on the way out, leaving you with a garbage roster. Oh and uh, those two greatest's cultivated an intensely critical fan base. Have fun.

I hold out hope because I want to enjoy Sundays again. I miss it. I hope that the team makes a huge leap next year. But it's a big ask for any HC - let alone a super green HC w/ an underqualified DC and an OC with schizo playcalling.
Mayo said himself he will be a much better Coach from this season. The team projects to add pieces on offense and defense. The hope is the talent level is better along with the coaching.
