Mayo interview with Curran

More self-help-book blather, with a little corporate jargon mixed in. I don't buy a word of it.

Mayo is not up to the job. The rebuild is crippled until this fact is acknowledged and the necessary changes- quite extensive ones - are implemented, both in the coaching staff and in the front office.

We fans should vote with our feet and with our TV clickers. This crap is not worth watching, and I think fans are getting sick of endlessly reiterating the obvious. I know I am.

If I were Drake, more to the point, I would certainly be sick of it all. When the time comes for the team to settle with Drake on a long-term deal, top players will have even more say on where they play than they do now, and Drake might very reasonably say, "You've already wasted the first few years of my career. Now you want me to sign up for more? No thanks." I wouldn't blame him a bit.

Mayo is like the anti Dan Campbell.

Campbell is ultra aggressive, completely engaged in the sidelines, always takes responsibility for his team.
Your right and Campbell said in his own words he was the opposite his first go round in Miami.

The difference is that Campbell was not being "who he is" first time 'round. Mayo is beng exactly who he is, and he seems quite content with that, unbothered by the results. The problem is that who he is is a man entirely incapable of leading men in a competitive context. Campbell, it turns out, is, very much so. Mayo is a people-pleasing bloviator and, of course, irrelevantly enough, a "nice guy" with a breezy manner quite appealing to the elderly.

Mayo said himself he will be a much better Coach from this season. The team projects to add pieces on offense and defense. The hope is the talent level is better along with the coaching.

We'll see. Fingers crossed.

Some in the media have already hinted he’s going to leave after his contract is up. In fact, it wouldn’t shock me if he eventually asks to be traded if major changes aren’t made quickly.

From what I saw from Drake he said he feels thankful to be the starting QB for the Patriots.. he says he loves the organization the region and wants to establish a family here as his career goes on.. now by the end of next season add in 65 million to that... my bet says Drake is going nowhere.

If.. we had won some of these games this season the narrative on Mayo would be different but we are a 3-10 football team I think this is what we all expected right. The organ isn't going to change thier course right now.. they are going to keep Mayo as HC and allow him to add to his staff as well as bring in talent on offense and defense. So if things next season are still the same I believe you see a change made.

Jumping the gun a little bit there fellas. Drake is under our control as long as we want him. 5 years plus franchise tag options. The quickest, simplest path of least resistance to a 9 figure pay day for him is here.

Drake loves it here! Plus it's not like he's singing for his supper he's got a nice contract being the 3rd overall pick. He's the face of the franchise he's a natural leader and will only get better with having guys on the outside next season.

Great post. It looks like a lot of work. Thanks for that. I am not sure I completely follow you.
The Commanders have a much easier schedule this year. These are their wins.

2-10 Giants
4-8 Bengals
6-6 Cardinals
3-9 Panthers
4-8 Bears
2-10 Giants
3-9 Titans

The Patriots would have more wins if they also had the Giants twice, the Banthers and Cardinals and Bears on their schedule.
The Patriots have the Cardinals and Bears on their schedule. They also have the Jets twice on their schedule who are very close to the Giants, slightly better. Yes, the Patriots do not have the Panthers on their schedule, but the Commanders are 8 - 5 while we are 3 - 10, that is a difference of 5 games and you are talking about 1 or 2 games, maybe.
We also did beat the Bengals. We lost to the Titans which is the only common game they did better.

According to Sharpe 2024 NFL Strength Of Schedule, Teams Ranked for Regular Season

We currently have the Hardest strength of schedule in the NFL this year. The Commanders have the 12th easiest.
If you look at the Jets you see they have a very similar schedule to us and they have the 4th easiest schedule. The difference between the weakest to the hardest schedule is not that great. Maybe a few games. We are presently 5 games behind the Commanders and I think that gap will widen over the last 5 weeks. SOS does not explain that gap.
That's a big part of it. Wolf is a massive problem though. The Patriots have a huge issue with getting talent on offense and now that he has control, the longer Wolf goes without solving that issue, the more he's going to look complicit in the mistakes of the last regime. Polk is a big ****ing miss either way you cut it.
Wolf is a massive problem. BB's biggest mistake was not firing Wolf and Groh.

Polk's stats are worse than N'Keal's. Polk has Maye, N'Keal had Cam. Think about it. Polk is a worse miss than N'Keal, but that is very rarely discussed. Why? Because the BB haters love to talk about N'Keal to express their hate.

Not at all. The people calling for Wolf’s head are morons.
The morons are the people defending Wolf.
No one can turn a 3-14 team
The 2023 Pats were 4 -13, just like the Commanders, not 3 - 14.
around in less than a season
The Commanders are 8 -5 and turned their franchise around in one season. There are other examples as well. You are talking about who the morons are?
, and trashing draft picks because of their rookie season is idiotic. The **** people are talking here is as stupid as it gets. It reflects a fan base that is so spoiled that they can’t handle the idea of a rebuild, and demand instant success or heads will roll.
The Commenaders are 8 - 5, the Pats are 3 - 10. You go to extremes to be outraged. The Pats are worse than last year and have very little chance of being even one game over the 2023 result. Expecting the team to be better than 4 - 13 is not being spoiled. Your idea of a rebuild is flawed.
It’s exactly what pushes the worst franchises to do what they do, hire and fire over and over, and make stupid rash decisions to overpay players out of desperation.
No, not true. The desperation is your post trying to insult, creating false outrage, and closing with exaggeration. Dude, get a grip.

Is there an example of a QB that shot his way out of a bad situation? I don't think so.

When it gets to their 6th and 7th years, the last thing these guys want to do is risk injury on a franchise tag.

Deshawn Watson is the only player I can think of and obviously that was a special situation full of legal troubles.

This is likely presently the case, but the relationship between players and teams (or colleges) is in a rapid state of flux. If present trends continue, top players are likely to have far greater say-so in where they play over even the next couple of years. Even aside from this, do we really want a player here who does not want to be here? The solution - not only for the sake of holding onto Drake but otherwise as well - is to get rid of a head coach, GM, and other coaches who are obviously infererior as a result of the asinine, unprofessional hiring process put in place by an owner who shows every sign, frankly, of failing judgment. The Krafts diddled around in keeping Bill on a few years too long, and now they are diddling around with respect to Mayo and Wolf. Fans have every right to be angry, to demand better, and to express their views by voting with their feet and their dollars.

I see no reason to waste yet another year, when Mayo's and Wolf's shortcomings are as blatantly obvious as they are.

Why wouldn't he. He's a smart guy. He knows football. He knows crap when he sees it.

I hear you. But I've just come to grips with they aren't going to make any moves until at least next season all depending how things look.

No, they're not. He should have been fired before the season started.

Any general manager that runs that offensive line out there week 1, and pretends like it's a professional-caliber offensive line, deserves to be fired immediately.

No team will be able to pay him what the Patriots can pay him.

I guess that means that Mayo will know which way the wind is blowing when picking sides in overtime.
