Martellus Bennett : [UPDATE: Placed on IR]

Not open for further replies.
MB has a torn rotator cuff. Um..hes not playing a down.

That's because he was being asked to block 100% of the time during that game,.. Just saying.

That's exactly what they asked him to do. The Pats definitely schemed to protect Brady in that game. Thursday night game. Short week etc etc....

Martellus Bennett: I wanted shoulder surgery, Packers wanted me to keep playing

He wanted the surgery thenn, but not now? This weird to me

In any case, im glad Marty is back. Him and Gronk are a powerful duo (when healthy i mean)

I keep seeing this sentiment, and it blows my mind.

The packers are done for the season. they were mediocre with rodgers, and they are trash without him.

play through the pain on a team that is going to lose, or get surgery early on and start rehabbing.

they cut him, now hes on a team that is good and is probably going to go deep into the playoffs, that's worth playing through pain for.

Well you did say in the second half of the chargers game he played 12 snaps and made 2 mistakes. So we are to assume from your analysis that he only made one more mistake from the rest of his 137 snaps Not including the 36 snaps from our losses. He really should be playing a lot more if he is so mistake free.

I don't know what to tell you man.

I watched Allen and noticed 1 mental error.
I watched Allen and noticed 2 times he got beat.

So the 2nd one has more meaning because I wrote down what he did(not that I showed any of you what I wrote down except for the amount of run vs pass plays and the two negative plays) even though I analyzed it the same way.

If Allen was getting beat twice a game I would have noticed it and I would have mentioned it.
Do you think if a player got beat twice in a game he's getting beat twice every game? Of course not. It comes in droves, just like sacks, or TD receptions, Rush TD's.

As for the last thing you said. Come on man! I assume you've been a Patriots fan long enough to know BB only puts his players in a position to succeed.

So if BB is not putting Allen in many passing snaps I assume he's struggling in the passing game for some reason. I do not dispute this. I never have.

What I have a problem with is people saying he stinks. It's simply not true. You know who stunk? Chad Ochocinco. Don't put Dwayne Allen into that category.

Allen is run blocking so well, we need to give him a chance. He has the potential to be a dynamic tight end.

You want to get on him for ripping the Pats off with his contract, fair enough. BB is taking a chance, it's what he does.

But don't say he sucks, stinks, is useless. It's not true.

The constant need for instant gratification is tiring. Why don't we just give people a chance anymore?

Edit: Just a reminder for anyone that didn't read my post in the re-watch thread. I did not watch the Chiefs or Panthers game again. That's 36 snaps.

You guys confused about this...it's pretty simple.

He's more willing to tough it out with Brady (Deus' post already made this point)

He's more willing to tough it out on a team that is still going somewhere and he doesn't think is ****ing with him.

AND I think the Pats are probably more willing to draw up a gameplan that makes it feasible for him to tough it out. 15-30 snaps a game and limited in practice for the remainder of the season and possible playoffs because he's not our top TE. Yes we'll probably be tipping our hand a lot when it comes to what he'll be doing on a given play but that never stopped us from doing the same thing with Blount.

I cant even begin to judge a TE on how well he's doing.

That said, both Brady and Belichick have said words to the affect that the TE position is the hardest position to learn on the team. I believe because the player has to learn both the OLine and the WR playbook.

why do the mods have to fuse everything into one megathread? i think it would be much better to have one thread for him being cut, one for him being signed to us, etc.. it makes it a total pain to track down new news. Does the new stuff start on page 20, 25, where? it's sort of ridiculous

Thanks. Saved some dear minutes of my time.

Wanted to post this hours ago. Another telling fantasy over reality th.read. And while reality slowly and inevitably sinks in and expectations settle down the irony of fans appreciating players that haven't played a single snap in the season for Pats over guys who do their job for this team every week reveals itself once again in full glory.

I love Marty, I also like the fact Pats claimed him (for variety of reasons) but the saviour Marty talk while trashing Allen who is on the field for Pats every week this year (not to most fans expectations of course) resembles a farce. The development of events accompanies that perfectly.

It is also funny how mediots & co were quick to provide Bennett's last year's numbers and clips like the reality of this year's Bennett does not exist. Not to mention the reality of this week's Bennett.

Love what you have is such a simple concept . so impossible it seems though.

Yeah I don't even know where to go to reread those incredible kenny posts about how right he was!

I'm not one to say he sucks. I think for his cap hit he should contribute more to the offense. We should expect more and I get lots of dislikes for this thought. I don't know how anyone can be satisfied with his play to this point. He had I think 6 snaps in one game too.

I was being sarcastic about his playing time. He's not on the field enough prove anything besides he can block and be an occasional decoy.

Last year, Bennett, even though he was banged up pretty much all season, never played fewer than 50% of the snaps in a game. This season, Allen's played in 1/3 of the snaps or fewer in 6 of the 8 games. The Patriots just claimed Bennett off waivers, when the guy's arm is a surgery waiting to happen. The Patriots clearly weren't taking your "Love what you have" advice.

This really isn't difficult stuff. If the Patriots were truly happy with Allen, Bennett wouldn't be on the team.

You want to get on him for ripping the Pats off with his contract...

I'm with you. I don't have an effing clue why anyone would get down on Allen for his contract. The Pats TRADED for Allen AND his contract. Allen had no say whatsoever in the matter. He accepted that contract offer from the Colts (a 4-year, $29.4m extension in March of 2016).

The Pats knew well in advance what they'd be paying Allen, regardless how he performed.

Also this is more of a offseason/end of season topic when we get closer to FA and the point where teams cut players. None of this matters right now.
