Mark Daniels on the fall of Mac Jones

Every good decision ever made = Belichick
Every bad decision ever made = not Belichick

Every good draft ever made = Belichick
Every bad draft ever made = not Belichick or reasons.

You may want to change up your tired old routine. We get it, you believe Belichick walks on water. However, coming from the dude that's been wrong 90% of the times on here, with zero credibility, you need to mix it up a little bit. You know, mix in your BS with a little bit of truth once in a while. Just saying.
He deserves ample amount of credit for the teams he built during the dynasty years but he also deserves all the blame for the downfall. Not that complicated nobody is disrespecting BB the game just passed him by

The ironic thing about calling Mac "Corky," is that you're basically saying that he overcame huge challenges to become extremely good at what he does and loved by everyone that watched him.

Without making a poll, I would say that's pretty far off from what most people think of Mac.

If that's a TV show, then I've never heard of it or seen it. Must be why I don't get this reference. Seems kinda obscure to be honest.

It was a decent sized hit in the late 80s and early 90s on Sunday nights. It was on for like 4-5 seasons. But it wasn’t one of those shows that people who weren’t alive or old enough to watch would know. I don’t think it ever did anything in syndication.

I think it’s a dig on his name and the reference is from a character named “Corky” from the 80’s-90’s show “Life Goes On” who has Down syndrome.
My childhood dog was named Corky. And that was decades before that show. Who knew I was psychic at 6 years old and named my dog after a mentally disabled character that wouldn't exist for 20 or more years? /s

If you hear the nickname Corky for a guy named McCorkle and instantly think of a character with Down's Syndrome, that's on you.*

*I don't specifically mean you, Rainmaker. I just mean anyone who jumps to that conclusion.

This article pretty much makes everyone look bad. Belichick, Jones, Patricia, a lot of the players, etc. all don't look good in this piece. The only positive from Jones' perspective is that he seems to have learned from his mistakes and might be a better QB going forward.
It makes Mac look like a victim. That's how slanted PR pieces are sometimes. They make everyone else out to be the bad guys except the guy who deserves the most blame.

And in retrospect, Mac believes he should have taken a sack!?!?!?!

Gesicki is wide open in the end zone, he has time to throw, but he thinks the smart thing to do is curl up into a ball when the score is 10-6!!!!

What's missing here is if the stinger rendered him incapable of throwing properly, Mac should have taken himself out of the game.

That was one sad article. I was all for Mac getting last season under BOB as a reset after the 2022 abortion, but he didn't have enough "it factor" to rise above the challenges. His wanting to be "one of the guys" vs. a leader willing to take his teammates to task, if true, is pretty telltale.

The biggest difference between early Brady and Mac is their leadership ability. Brady demanded earned the respect of the team on the field,
FTFY

From the article:

According to a team source, Jones frustration over the insertion of Patricia, and moving to a more Shanahan-based offense was immediate. Before training camp, he showed resistance to changing offensive systems especially after having success with McDaniels. That drew Belichick’s ire.
I keep getting a mental image of an 8-year-old whining "But I don't want to!"

"After Week 12, when Jones was benched, Belichick eventually stopped speaking to his quarterback. That lack of communication came to a head in the Patriots’ final game. It created an uncomfortable situation. Jones openly rooted for Zappe trying to show coaches he was handling his demotion maturely. However, behind closed doors, observers noted Jones had little support. It seemed like he was being shut out."

I remember when the report came out in '22 that Mac was reaching outside Foxboro for advice from other coaches, I said that was a huge no-no with Bill and he was done w/ him. I was called a Mac hater for saying that. Lol
I think it's a huge no-no for almost every coach.

This article makes me kind of soften my stance on Mac a bit… They really did screw him the last two years. BOB was better than Patricia, but Bill really had it out for him after ‘22 and never let go. And most of all, Troy Brown just sucks ass as a WR Coach. If some of these guys can’t figure out their routes after years on the team, why is he still employed?

I can’t really blame Mac for getting so frustrated by some of this… Maybe they can give him a try in their new scheme under new coaching with a fresh start and see how it goes? It’s probably too far gone, but it seems like it might be worth a try. He does have the physical talent to be a solid QB if he can get right mentally… Perhaps if Maye isn’t there at 3, they can take MHJ and trade up a bit for a tackle with their second pick; sign a veteran QB and see what happens?

He can't make all the NFL throws required to consistently win games. Pass.

Plus, if the article says 3 OCs in 3 yrs was a contributor to his suckiness, what's a 4th OC going to do for him in a new system? Dude is weak.

I've never been able to fully blame Mac. I'd say its 80/20 that Bill is responsible for Mac going from perfectly competent QB to worst in the league. What a miserable situation Jones ended up with. His career could possibly be resurrected but its unlikely to be here. The fans hate him, the locker room doesn't trust him.

Unless you bring in a legit QB whisperer for an OC and bring in a boat load of talent I feel a reclamation project isn't worth it. Mac's ceiling isn't high anyhow.

If he was entertaining at all maybe he would get a documentary like Johnny Manziel did

If only our chief talent evaluator could have saw this coming. Oh wait…

There's just too much baggage with Mac and unless the OC (or QB coach) coming in has a crap ton of experience -- which appears unlikely -- parsing through that here is a nonstarter. Mac has ability and smarts but lacks grit and the kind of win-at-all-costs competitiveness required in an NFL starter. The Pats should start from scratch at quarterback with a veteran free agent, rookie and perhaps a developmental guy not named Jones or Zappe.

You are the proof that Mac’s PR is working. Maybe there is still a chance we could get a draft pick for him.

James Ferentz said that it was basically the same offense for 3 years

I don't want Mac back. but giving a QB 3 difference OC's in 3 years doesn't mean the QB is weak. generally that's what bad teams do to their young QB's. Fans just don't want to admit that Bill is one of those bad GM's.

had Bill hired a real OC or promoted Caley who actually had some experience in offense. maybe just maybe he would still be here and he might be closer to shulas record. But then again, his drafting/roster management has been abysmal. so it goes beyond coaching failures.

I don't think Mac ever was going to lead this team anywhere. his lack of skillset puts him in having a very low margin to win where everything must be perfect. But I think he could've been and could still be on another team an average game manager in a better situation. like he was his rookie year. and wouldn't be surprised to see him play better on another team.

fans don't want to admit it but 2 things can be true...

1. Mac jones can be mentally weak and have poor skillset.

2. Bill could've handled having a young QB as horribly as possible. and yet theres fans crying because we don't want to hand him a top #3 QB give them a DC/special teams coach, jags on the OL and juju with one knee and expect them to win and develop

In fairness, I don't know if @Triumph was referencing Corky from Life Goes On. He is obviously demeaning Mac, but I didn't get it in that way. My take is Triumph might be too young to get that reference. I get he is on the younger side. I don't know if he was even alive when that show was on the air. I mean it was cancelled about 30 years ago.

I think he is is in his 20s. I hope to God he is in his 20s because it would be scary for someone much older than that to act this way. Hell, it is scary for a guy in his 20s to act this way.

But either way, the Corky reference is tired. But so is his act. Mac Jones has likely spent his last game in a Patriots uniform. Every thread doesn't have to turn into endless references to "Corky".

Triumph isn’t young by any means, he’s been talking **** on the board for over 15 years. He’s in his 40’s to 50’s, at a minimum. And he’s been using the “ Corky” term for years, it’s absolutely intended as detogatory, and he is absolutely referring to the character on the TV show.
