Mark Daniels: Gronk, Solder, and Jonathan Cooper are not on flight to AZ

Im not saying it will happen but the Pats could still beat AZ, they not only had some close games with teams that are frankly not as good as the Pats with Gronk and Brady out, they lost to the Rams and Steelers, go look at the record because they did struggle against good defenses. I have a race to be in so I'm not sure how much I get to watch. Anyway if Gronk isn't healthy then don't play him, I prefer to see him play late into the season and playoffs when they really do need him. The Pats will survive.

Cannon has done well this preseason and I truly hope Degugliemo was the issue. But I am stunned they did nothing to build depth there. I can't imagine Vollmer was a surprise. BB always anticipates every scenario, it seems, and he's been ailing for a while. They even refused to extend him. I'm still nervous about Cannon until he proves it during the regular season and this is a huge, daunting task he faces.

I will say though back in '13 when Vollmer went out Cannon stepped in, there wasn't that much of a drop off from Vollmer and that was with Scar coaching him. So I mean there is that, so it's not like Cannon has never played solid, just wasn't solid with Degugliemo for whatever reason. Although I do recall him coming in after Solder went out injured against Dallas last year and the OL actually improved but then he got injured against the dolts and missed a month, didn't help that he returned to an OL that was suffering with injuries across the board either.

Apparently has dropped some weight though so maybe that has helped.

hey lost to the Rams and Steelers, go look at the record because they did struggle against good defenses.

Just want to say for the record that lost to the Steelers was to Landry Jones and before anyone says anything it's not like Antonio Brown went off or something he had 3 rec for 24 yards. I know it says Bryant had 137 yards but 88 of those came on a 10 yard pass that he took to the house when it was 18-13 Steelers with 2 minutes to go and they were in run clock mode. So even without that TD Steelers would have won

So it's not like the Cardinals got the Steelers A game.

Palmer actually threw for 400 yards but they only scored 13 points.

They aren't elite. Go back and look at last year. They are prone to give it up to teams they shouldn't. They are a paper tiger in all reality. The Badger is coming off an ACL so we shall see how that affects them. The fans here are meh. It shouldn't be a hostile environment by any means.

The Cardinals are 34-14 over the past 3 seasons, while trending upwards (10-6/11-5/13-3). In those 3 seasons, their scoring defense has ranked 7/5/7. That may, or may not, be elite but, they can see elite from where they're standing.

I wouldn't disagree with your premise. They are close. But lime I said, they lose to teams they shouldn't. And get pretty good points put on them at times.

Scar has always liked smaller, athletic linemen. Hopefully Googs was trying to get him to focus on being a mauler rather than technique and this coaching change is all he needs.

Did you mean "lighter"? Vollmer and Solder don't count as "smaller" by pretty much any definition of that term.

Even more so now that they have a dominant pass rusher.

Chandler Jones a dominant pass rusher.

Okay, I now fear I have powers. I commented about Solder and Vollmer being injury prone and hadn't meant to really include Solder.

And now.... he's injured.

WHAT POWER HAVE I UNLEASHED?

This team had an uphill climb in this game and now it's even bigger. I don't see
how this team pulls out this win. You cannot lose guys on the OL.

Arguably for the first 10 weeks of the season.. After that, he's good but not dominant.

O-line seems like it'll be a mess for the 3rd or 4th season in a row.

Of course, they won a SuperBowl with an okay OL in 2014-15, but man, Brady was taking some big shots in the big game. Even against the Ravens.

Especially with him getting older now, I'm worried he might not get up from one of those hits if the OL isn't improved soon.

I think many of us share your concerns, as an OT pick was expected by many. Belichick obviously had other ideas, and it would be difficult to complain too much based on his success.

That said, it seems as though our fears are coming true with both starting tackles suffering injuries before the season even starts.

And I'm "stunned" by the fact you think that. How many offensive linemen do we have to draft before you get comfortable with our OL depth. How many OL FA's do we have to bring aboard before you get comfortable with our OL depth Have you even been watching this off season at all ? We had 2 guys with starting experience at C, we had 6 guys with starting experience at G, and 4 guys with starting experience at OT.

Kline wasn't good enough to make this team (tho given the situation, it would have been nice to have him for this first game) Volmer and Jackson will be out for the first 8 games, and Cooper, Solder, are hurt, and Mason will play injured....if he plays. The fact is that this is the DEEPEST OL we've had in the last decade. It's unfortunate we need to tap into that depth so soon, but **** happens. Better now than in December like last season.

Let's watch the game first.

At a minimum the Pats have the best HC in the league, a top defense and are going up against a proven choke prone QB.

I still like our chances.

Sounds like we're in for some ground and pound

Should be fun..... Been a long time since we don't have a clue about what the hell we are going to see

Tell you one thing......we look good, and our depth prospects for the season are going to scare the **** out of people

If your point is that our OT depth was improved upon or even addressed, it may be difficult to agree with you.

The fear was that guys who have played poorly (Cannon, Fleming/Waddle) in the past would be forced into starting roles should one/both of Vollmer or Solder go down, and that's exactly what has happened.

As you mention, there was good competition for the interior spots, but only time will tell how those tackles work out. All we can do is hope for the best, but I think it's understandable that people are a bit concerned about the current quality of the position.

Last year's losses:

Steelers
Rams
Seahawks

Last year's 30+ point allowed games:

Bengals
Seahawks (twice)

Last year's 25-30 point allowed games:

Steelers

Are you confusing the Cardinals with some other team?
