Mac Jones bottom 5 QB in the NFL? Wut

5 TDs and 7 INTs combined in the 4 losses down the stretch (including playoffs).
If such numbers were attached to any other starting QB, what would the keyboard GMs be typing about him?

Just keeping it real
Mac and the rest of the team were pretty bad down the stretch. I was speaking more towards his overall stats for the season. If you strictly go by statistics he fell right in the middle of the pack in almost all categories.

It depends. Is the other starting QB also a rookie on a team that has a roster full of holes?

I mean Mac hit the lottery in terms of landing spot. I think most smart people would identify NE as a top 3 place to land as a QB.

Just comparing him to other QB's and it's not close besides SF who has a playoff/SB team.

Chicago's targets or weaponz are dogshitt. Fields is throwing to ST players and that OL was a bit up & down early in the year. Matt Nagy was his coach.

I mean Jacksonville is dumpster fire. I don't think that needs much explanation. Just a mess. As is Houston and Mills was comparable to Mac. As was Tua through 16 games. He was dealing with one of the worst OL in the league and didn't exactly have much early on.

Again ask any smart football person and they'll tell you very quickly this was an ideal spot of Mac. Most young QB's.

Agreed. About as much structure as you can have in an organization. The longest tenured coached in the league who had a long time OC and Mac also worked under Saban who is a Bill disciple. Out of all the rookie QB's Mac may have had the best supporting cast offensively outside of Lance in SF and Lance didn't even really play.

I'm confused by this response. I wasn't trying to imply otherwise?

Mac showed out very well for a rookie last year. He was put in a very difficult position (including an overall crappy wr corps) and produced league average #s. I think becoming a borderline top 10 QB this year would be a good leap - I’m hopeful that’ll happen…

My bad I might have misinterpreted your post
To be clear, I agree with you that this is the ideal location for Mac.

I was just addressing the following: "If such numbers were attached to any other starting QB [in the league], what would the keyboard GMs be typing about him?"

I would argue that question is framing is loaded because a.) Mac was a rookie and b.) the roster wasn't as talented as it was in years past. Of course we'd expect a rookie QB to struggle, particularly against playoff teams with more talent than the Pats.

When I factor in what he had to work with last year and how he performed statistically, I already consider him top 10 in the League.

The media is slobbering over Josh Allen, but I think Jones will prove to be the better QB. He just doesn't have a legit #1 to throw to.

Top 10 is a bit of a stretch at least at this very moment don't you think?

Brady
Rodgers
Mahomes
Burrow
Herbert
Wilson
Carr
Stafford
Prescott
Allen
Watson(if he plays)

I'm not sure I'd take Jones over those guys for this season. But I at least don't care if he's top 10 or not he's proven to be our future just want to see significant progress from last season

Lamar Jackson has an MVP. Followed up by 26/9 65% and was in the MVP conversation last year before he got hurt. No other QB is responsible for as much offense as he is and he's had his team in the playoffs every year he's played.

He belongs on that short list. And has been as good or better than Dak & Wilson, recently.

There are more good to great QBs now in the league than I can ever remember. No way Mac is top 10 right now.

Mahomes
Brady
Herbert
Rodgers
Allen
Burrow
Stafford
Wilson
Jackson
Ryan
Carr
Stafford
Prescott

Those 13 are all better right now than Mac.

It's a tough argument to say Mac is a top 10 QB right now comparing him around the league. His time hasn't come yet. When it does we'll all know. IMO I'd put him around the middle of the league maybe slightly higher.

Bottom 5? Lol no. Just an overreaction that's all part of the perception that every single team around the league who went all in will be awesome and everything will work out in their favor - and this team will be really bad in 2022 because we didn't.

Only way I see this season going bad is Mac gets Bernard Pollard'ed and BB quits for some reason in the middle of the season.

You included Stafford twice on your list, but I agree with your premise, Mac at this point in his career isn't a top 10 qb ...too many talented qb's still in the league. I would say he's in the 12-15 range. Not bad for a second year qb though!!!

Matt Ryan is trending in a bad direction. I'm not a fan of Jackson either as he's hitting that plateau like Kaepernick did. Prescott is looking like the new Phillip Rivers folding like a lawn chair in big games or playoffs. I think Mac will be in the top 10 conversation fairly soon.

Not to mention guys like Cousins and Murray. Murray has ****t the bed in the 2nd half of year and Cousins is middle of the pack for sure but he went 66% 33/7 last year. Both are as good as of rn.

I'd take Mac Jones over Josh Allen all day long. Allen simply has far better receivers. Ditto Joe Burrow. I'd take Jones over Watson because Watson isn't going to play this year. Since this isn't 2016, I'd take Jones over Wilson.
