M.Bennett Reported Asking Price 9 Mil.

No didn't expect him to to ask for Vet's Min but listening to him from his post SB Win interview on how he's a SB Winner and you know how teams overpay for SBW and this comin straight from Unicorns mouth. Yes he can come back for less than that but his intentions were clear.

Of course they were, and I, for one, don't blame him one bit. Maybe he'll see that money, maybe less, but if he's not coming back, I hope some team pays him a ton.

Strong Drafts for TE's Marty will not get that asking price at his age. That $7Mill we offered is more than reasonable. I wouldn't be surprised if he ends up back here.

Thanks for helping us get #5, Marty. You won't be as happy or successful in your next gig, unfortunately.

He got his ring.....cashing that hefty check he'll be smiling for sure.

Cashing a check has nothing to do with the locker room or winning games, and those were the things I was obviously talking about in my post. Ty Law, Deoin Branch and Richard Seymour all said or alluded to wishing they had stuck around in NE. So "hefty" checks don't always buy happiness or success.

If that's the case, then I wish him the best of luck at his next stop unless it's against the Pats. I have to wonder if Oakland is going to overpay him.

We got what we wanted from Bennett. Let him go and get his cash. The more he gets the higher the comp pick. We should be hoping he signs for $10m+ somewhere.
Same with Logan Ryan.

Also easier to say that when you've already got the money...

Lol that is Gronk/Kelce money.

Any team that pays him that would be stupid. Especially since he became a locker room problem in chicago because they werent winning

Well, if Fleener and Dwayne Allen are making 5yr/$36M and 4yr/$29.4M respectively, I don't see how Bennett's asking price is that bad. They both have less yards than Gronk alone in 2014.

But the guy played hurt all year...injuries where most would have sat out or potentially have been out for an extended period of time. Took on a big role in the blocking element. So clearly he's unselfish. He leaves for more money....So be it. Just understand while in a Pats uniform he gave us everything in a major time of need with Gronk hurt. Oh and of course, the funny quotes. I'll never forget that.

First of all, this is one of these "reported" stories that really has no validity. Most likely this number comes from an agency source designed to test the market. Frankly I doubt very much any team would consider paying that kind of money for a 30 year old TE who already has a ring and a lot of outside interests.

But thst being said, there IS a ton of cap space available to most teams. I could see a team giving him $9MM, but only for a year, and I don't think that is what he wants
Well, he supposedly turned down a $7 million offer from the Patriots so it makes sense he's asking for $9 million (not that he'll get it from anyone). I think $7 million is damn generous for that player.

Don't expect the patriots to resign any of their big names if they lowball them compared to what the more desperate teams offer. With that said, I am praying we lock up Hightower and butler long term somehow.

They offered him 7 per which is hardly a lowball number. If there are desperate teams out there willing to "overpay" that does not make the pats any more guilty of lowballing.

And if the pats MO is indeed "lowball" their big names then that sounds good to me. I will take Superbowl wins any day over a team who just throws around money because the fans think the owner is being cheap etc.

if teams only end up offering Bennett 7million which is what the pats did. Does he come back here? I think their offer was pretty generous.

but obviously bennett has to go and see if a dumb team (cough jets cough) will grossly overpay to win free agency. and then like clockwork we can predict how it will turn out better than that teams GM. Troublesome players generally behave when with the patriots but once they get off the belichick reservation tend to resort to their old ways.

TE rich draft isn't gonna help, along with his age. I doubt he gets $9m, but then again, it only takes one desperate team

Not to be argumentative, but is Nate Ebner more "successful" than Marty Bennett?

He got his ring. He wants to make more money. Maybe his retirement will be happier than if he had a few more million vs a few less by staying in NE. I don't blame a guy for trying to make as much as he can make.

If Gresham is worth $7M, then Bennett has got to be worth $9M to someone. I bet he'll get what he's looking for somewhere, though he won't (and shouldn't) get it here.

"Buh-bye"!
