Lots Of Progress At WR and TE

So far this looks like it's going to be a 2006/2013 kind of year
A lot of us thought that last year and look how that turned out.

I thought this team would implode last year due to the defense’s inability to stop the run and the lack of fire power at WR. The WR’s came up huge in the playoffs and the defense put out the best performance in the biggest game of the year in the BB era. Better than the 03-04 defenses.

Progress????

Gordon may never play in the NFL again

DT is over the hill

Edelman is great but on the wrong side of 30

Ellington sucks

Dorsett is a JAG

ASJ is a JAG

Lacrosse sucks

Get our 42 year old QB some young legitimate weapons!!!

Shouldn’t this post wait until after the draft if we fail to address wr and TE?

Need to strike gold in this years draft at WR/TE

I don't think we can reasonably assume anything from Gordon, and based in part on that I'd say there's still more work that needs to be done at both TE and WR. Although I possibly just have a lower opinion of ASJ than most.

This time in 2013 we had Gronk/Hernandez/Amendola/Edelman/Shane Vereen. That was WAY better than this.
I wouldn't say way better. This time in 2013 we had no idea that Edelman was actually a good WR, he had proven less than Philip Dorsett as of April 2013. And I don't get the point of saying "this time in 2013 we had Hernandez" when he killed Odin Lloyd in May and never played another down for the Pats for obvious reasons.

I'd say the 2013 receiver corps as we knew it entering the season was better than the receiver corps as of now purely by virtue of having Gronk, but the difference isn't enormous. I agree more work needs to be done to get the receiver corps to a state that I'd be comfortable with entering the season.

What will we get out of our TE's? Will it be more than the 50 receptions for 709 yards that the position gave us in 2018? No one knows. As you said, you are more skeptical that most because of your expectation for ASJ.

Both positions still need to be upgraded.

Well, it wasn't for LACK of trying. We were interested in OBJ last year....went after Humphires HARD in FA....traded for Gordon....and not to mention guys like Kenny Britt, Jordan Matthews, and etc...last summer that just fizzled out.

I like the fact that we didn't resign Hogan...shows that we are trying not maintain the status quo. Yes, it is not ideal to have Edleman on the wrong side of 30, DeMaryius Thomas who is on an incentive laden deal and could be suspended, and Dorsett who couldn't gain snaps despite Hogan struggling last year. But going into the draft with Edelman/Thomas/Dorsett/Berrios isn't a bad thing....

As for @TE...can't complain...they tried to go after Jared Cook at least. We were gonna suck at TE once Gronk walked away no matter what. ASJ was a great bargain pick up...who knows..he could be a 50 catch guy maybe. And I think some of our TE's currently on the roster might surprise or at least block well. This draft has a few TE's, but many teams want a TE as well....however there are BIG receivers in this draft...can't hurt to take a big receiver too.

So, I agree with the OP's premise of "Lots of progress"....we are TRYING to upgrade, but we can't break the bank...we have our $$$ tied up in an expensive secondary, Hightower, the OL, and eventually Brady...only so much cash to go around...

On vacation. Made perfect sense when I typed it last night. Visiting Hunter Thompson's stomping grounds.

gotcha

been there /done that

Bill B will get it fixed. Has he let us down as fans?

I will always keep saying it, "In BB we Trust"

The team on paper pre-draft in April, is not the same team that will wear Pats Uniforms in September.. the draft + June cuts may bolster the WR & TE spots..

I have hope for AS-Jenkins too he has put up average numbers with average QB's. Would like to see what he can do with a real QB.

Sure if he can learn the offense and earn Bradys trust.

TE is not a position of strength for the Pats anymore.

Andelman is a stiff. When he was alive he was up and down like a bowling pin.

He is all we have at this point with the exception of Jimmy White.

Gordon should be gone at least 8 games.

Deja Vu all over again as Yogi would say......Pats have too many holes......going to be a tough season for them.......and once mid season rolls around and most players and positions settle in.....Pats are once again in the cat bird's seat waiting for December to sew up their playoff spot and another run at a SB invite.......I love watching BB and the Pats work their magic...from pre draft signings, trades, thru the draft....Exciting time of the season...ENJOY !!
