Today In Patriots History 2024: Kraft fires Bill Belichick

Fun historical team facts.

Maye couldn't win as many games Jacoby Brissett and most of this board was creaming over Mac his first year just like Maye now. And it was Bills choice to not give Brady a longterm contract. He very easily could have rolled with Brady for a few years, had a few respectable seasons and then would have had to look for a QB in 2023. He also didn't need to hire Patricia and Judge. He also didn't need to tell BOB not to use his own offensive staff.

He was given full control and the team declined. I get the sentimentality some people have over it, but he had his chance.
That is some interesting logic. I will give you that. Maye performed better than Mac despite bad coaching and a less talented roster.

Maye performed better from a pure physical talent standpoint. If you actually look at their production, Mac's first year he was better in virtually every category whether it was efficiency or volume. To your credit, A LOT of that is talent and coaching that Mac benefitted from his first year. Maye had a lower passer rating, a lower completion percentage, a higher interception percentage, fumbled more in less games, had a lower yards per average, and started and completed a single game that he won while Mac had 10 wins as a starter that first year. Maye being better is mostly right now being displayed through having a better arm, superior accuracy, and being far more mobile.

After year one people here were hyped as hell that we supposedly got the best rookie of that draft class (while this year Maye is clearly under Daniels and is on par with Bo Nix) and we were all talking about the Patriots being back in contention and expecting a second year jump from Mac where he understood the game better. And we saw how that went

So while I am happy we have Maye, QB is a consistency game and you don't know what you have year one no matter how well they perform.

It's not prudent to count one's chicken's before they hatch. Maye is promising, if he has a sophomore slump and we are all questioning him, that would be neither unprecedented nor all that surprising.

No that was necessary. Every great coach has his day and then declines. Happens to all of them
Yep. Should have been fired right after the Patricia fiasco. That experiment worked so well that Patricia and Judge - and BB himself- are no longer in the NFL.

Genius.

You are comparing apples and oranges. Mac was ok when he was protected by the game plan and the rest of the team kept him from needing to win the game by making a big play. As soon as Mac needed to make difficult throws, he was exposed and then he fell apart mentally. Maye had no help and made difference making big plays and consistently demonstrated elite physical skills. What people thought about Mac on the internet is irrelevant. Not one of those people would choose Mac over Maye at this point in time.

Listen, I think Maye has a ton of potential. He won 1 game this season. Brissett won more with less chances. Acting like he's accomplished something and is a sure thing is ridiculous. All we can say about him is he has potential.

I never once said that Maye has accomplished anything. I only said that he is a better NFL QB than Mac from the talent perspective, physically and mentally. Clearly that is a low bar now that Mac has proven that cannot live up to the early optimism.

I’m seeing a lot of Drew from Maye right now. Hope Vrabel can coach that out of him.

It's ok to just say you like Mayo better than Bill. If that's your take just own it.
I've never seen anyone say that Mayo was a better coach than Bill. What posts are you reading?
