Lombardi: The Jets want Brandon Marshall

Re: Lombardi...The Jets want Brandon Marshall

Well Dwayne Bowe was picked in the #23 spot, if we could land a comparable WR you would be paying a lot less with a rookie contract then you would be with bringing in Marshall, which would allow you to keep or get other players as well, so you can't just look at it like Marshall vs. a rookie. That being the upside, the down side is WR's are hit or miss in the draft, esp. trying to pick up this offense. Golden Tate already has this offense down, not sure they would go that route thou.

What are we going to do when Moss goes down with an injury? Rely on Patten, Tate, Aiken, Edelman and a rookie or jag WR? That is an ugly picture if you ask me?

BTW, this is all great talk. But the odds of this happening are next to nothing. Yeah, like the Jets are seriously going to trade for Marshall for less than a first rounder like the report says they want to. Maybe the Broncos will take a fifth rounder and throw in Dumerville to sweeten the deal.

For the Jets to sign Marshall (which I don't think they can under the Final Four rule), who would they have to give up to get it. Do they not resign Mangold or Ferguson next season? I mean in the next year or so, they have to/want to give long term deals to Revis, Ferguson, Mangold, Harris, Edwards, etc. with most of them commanding top dollar at their position. Marshall would want a new contract paying him Fitzgerald money to complete the trade (which I don't think the Jets can do under the CBA) since the Broncos cannot trade Marshall while he isn't under contract. A trade like this could make the Jets window be this upcoming season.

This was a nice Sunday rainy afternoon talk but Marshall is probably be more likely a Patriot than a Jet at this point and I don't see him in a Pats uniform either. If he does somehow become a Jet, they can kiss goodbye some of their other key players within a year or two.

sounds like the full-circle of wishful thinking...........the acquisition of marshall would make edwards expendable after next year, and truth be told, I would rather have marshall than edwards.......

Now we're talking! Although you're obviously being sarcastic about him coming here, right? I would love to see Moss, and Marshall together for a year. Knowing that this is probably Moss' last year here, it gives us our new #1.

What will the Chargers do if Vincent Jackson goes down? What will the Eagles do if Desean Jackson goes down? And why do you say "When"? He has been healthy so far, and is playing for probably his last Contract.

Re: Lombardi...The Jets want Brandon Marshall

Maybe they'll offer Gholston, Jenkins, and or Cotchery and a late pick. They can offer quality players that really won't hurt their team.

David Harris is another possibility

Harris?...that's ludicrous

Jenkins?..their all pro nose tackle?...jeezus, that's almost as ludicrous

Gholston???? GHOLSTON????? Why would McD EVER want a total bust that he's SEEN play twice a year while in N.E.

Cotchery makes sense but he's a severe downgrade from Marshall talent wise

the Jets make a deal using draft picks primarily in a deal like this...and maybe a depth LB with upside if they plan on signing AT when/if the Patriots release him. The fact they're even talking about this means there's something substantive going on. I don't really see an immediate chemistry issue if they do bring him onboard, at least not in his first season and as much as I would like to disparage Sancheese, having Edwards and Marshall as options would make even Brady Quinn look good.

He was experiencing back problems last year, and those issues tend to linger with aging players.

I'm going on the assumption that Welker will not be back until after Thanksgiving BTW.

Jets Give
1st round pick (2009)
2nd round pick (2009)
3rd round pick (2009)
3rd round pick (2010)
3rd round pick (2011)
5th round pick (2009)
5th round pick (2010)
Abram Elam
Brett Ratliff
Chansi Stuckey
Jason Trusnik
Kenyon Coleman

Jets Get
Mark Sanchez
Braylon Edwards
Kris Jenkins
Antonio Cromartie

there is two ways to look at this one they give up a lot of picks for a QB that turns the ball over a WR that can't catch. a NT that is never on the field. and a ok CB

or you could say they give up 5 JAG's and a lot of rookies for 4 impact players.

Sanchez, when he did not turn it over showed that he can move the ball and put points on the bord. Edwards, if he stops droping the ball is one of the top WR in the NFL.

Jenkins, when he is on the field is one of the best NT's in the game. and if Cromartie, plays half as good as he did in 2007. with that pass rush and playing next to the best CB in the NFL will only make the all redy #1 ranked defense of the jets better.

2010 will tell if they made good moves or bad moves.

Remember how we got Moss, Low risk/High reward. No way is BB throwing a 1st round pick a WR with issues. Last thing he wants is a Terry Glenn Situation playing out. Not only that, but after giving Moss Big Money, I think he seen some of Moss' True Colors shing thru. Which is what would eventually happen with BMarsh.

No. I doubt the Pats will get him either. I personally don't want him here. But I don't think Belichick will give up what it takes to get him here

But I think the Jets would do it, but in the next year or so, they are going to make Revis, Mangold, and Ferguson either the highest paid players at their position or close to it. Harris could be one of the highest paid ILBs in the league too. I don't know how they could do that and give Marshall what he wants especially after spending big bucks on Pace, Scott, and Faneca. Even if the cap continues to grow, there are only so many players you can pay top dollar. If the Jets acquire Marshall and give him a long term deal, you gotta think Ferguson and/or Mangold are gone.

Marshall would have to play under an one year deal prove it contract and I doubt he would ever agree to that with any team. Any team that acquires him are probably looking at paying him $9-10 million a year. Hence why I think the Jets are not a realistic option.

Re: Lombardi...The Jets want Brandon Marshall

It has been reported numerous places that his height has been inflated and he is really only about 6 feet.

Where? Show us these reports. At the combine he was 6'2.

I wonder if these "reports" have to do with you trying to cover up the fact that you didn't even know the height of the guy you were saying is to short to be an effective qb.

I wonder if all the other 6'2 guys (Montana, Young, Brees, Mcnabb) had their heights inflated? Btw, if there is so much stat inflation going on, that pertains to the linemen, also.

teams manage.......choices get made......they don't have to pay their QB 15-20M for 5 more years

Re: Lombardi...The Jets want Brandon Marshall

From experience I can tell you Back problems linger with people young or old. But he played through them, also he had a dislocated shoulder and played through that as well. Trust me, he will play well this year with it being a contract year.

Give the Jets credit for trying to make their team better and not sitting around on their behinds hoping a rookie falls out of the sky to save their season.

This is amazing how so many people are dissing Marshall. He is a top 4 WR and is far and away better than anything the Patriots have. Yes he is better than Moss at this point in their careers
To suggest that he wouldn't eb an instant major upgarde for any team is complete BS. People on thsi board can keep the blinders on and pretend everything is going to be fine with this team...but this first 2 weeks of FA is an indicator of the style of this team...passive and laid back

Would the Jets be better with him..YES Much better

Would the Patriots be better with him...Yes much better

But the Patriots FO is so much smarter than everyone else...they are outsmarting themselves into third place. Keep hoping something will fall out of the sky into Foxboro instead of going out and making it happen.

Marshall's a top 4 receiver?

R. Moss, C. Johnson, A. Johnson, and L. Fitzgerald, just to list 4, all ahead of Marshall, and there are others.

What type of contract would you BM supporters like to see the Pats offer and what do you think BM would accept? Don't go on about TB and the chance to win. BM is ALL about the money and has proven he'll be a PIA when he doesn't get what he wants.

brees is 6'.......doesn't seem to be a problem

I know its early, but based on the way he played last year, they are going to be over paying him for years to come, I'm not sure what his #'s are, but I know the 5th spot is Big Money.

Damn, you're right there. BB isn't going to throw a long term contract to Marshall until he proves himself trustworthy on a 1 year deal, so yeah it pretty much makes no sense to throw away a 1st round pick on a 1 year rental.

What I learned w/ the PATS from the '01 -'09 seasons is the importance of a solid defensive unit.

All of our success occurred w/ a well rounded Defensive team, strong up front w/ a good compliment of linebackers and a talented secondary....

Pat's got it done w/ Deion Branch.... (yeah imagine that)

a good/ a bit abit above middle fiddle WR..... Nothing great like Moss

'07 we became offensively heavy....

'07-'09

Defense is old (trades, retired etc..) thinking new.... rebuilding

now '10 hopefully we draft wisely and transition back to that solid defense we use to have. '11 is key also.

we need more play makers on D

(LAM)

Life After Moss

-time to get back to the early roots-
-no more overpaid WR's
-stronger D, cheaper O-weapon's
-LB's must be collected
-gotta find a good DE
-Fix the damn defense..... I like the DB's, Vince and that is about it.
