Welch has since made clear that there was plenty of pre-draft attention from the Patriots:

"When Patriots Coach Bill Belichick attended a Vanderbilt spring practice several weeks ago to work out cornerback Myron Lewis, he didn't leave before sitting down with offensive tackle Thomas Welch.

"We met for about an hour and watched film and went over some things," Welch said. "I guess I made an impression. The offensive line coach came and worked me out the next week.""

Vollmer didn't visit either, but we had a report of Coach Scar and Caserio at the Pro-Day and that NE (no specifics) did talk to McCourty then. I wondered who BB might have chatted with when he was there for the Coaches Camp. I knew BB had been at Vanderbilt for Myron Lewis, no one reported him talking to Welch or Coach Scar working him out - we get a lot of this after the fact. :confused2:

You guys did a great job, I was not criticizing your work. I had thought that I had worked some things out and could do a better job of guessing our targets. BB's annual Gator day and his Rutgers speech apparently clouded my vision. I thought you guys did an awesome job with the contacts, its one of my favorite threads to read.
