Lets add Vollmer to the pile: Week 17 Injury Watch

It will be interesting to see which one of the 2 WRs is considered to be healthy enough to play, at least for the first half or so.

I wouldn't rush to assume that it will definitely be Edelman.

I am hoping edelman's ready to go. Even 20 snaps. I just want him to get some live action before the playoffs.

Edelman, Amendola, Gronk come back, and we have James White, Keyshawn Martin, Brandon Bolden and potentially even Steven Jackson getting valuable experience in their absence.

The idea was to have those guys see some reps and produce enough to hit the mid-20s, thus hoping for a good defensive performance and a win.

Unfortunately, they ended up with one offensive TD and a very underwhelming performance between the 4 of them, so I'd have to expect more of the same (hopefully not on the exact same level) until one of Amendola/Edelman return.

Weird season. But as stated this team might be going into the playoffs relatively healthy with the following major losses and replacements.

Soldier - Cannon will be an ok replacement.
Wendell- replaceable
Blount - Starting RB but was not playing super. Sjax should fill in nicely
Lewis - Big Loss, White will have to be a beast to come near him But he is capable.
Develin - luxury
Brown, Dobson and Gibosn would have been nice depth but not needed it the players in front of them continue to play well and stay healthy.
Easley- Great player, Hicks coming on strong negates most of the loss.

So, really assuming the wounded return, including Vollmer, we are in good shape except for the drop off between Solder to Canon and Lewis to White. Not the disaster it could be.

Due to the shortness of the season remaining (including the Playoffs) if there isn't a tangible medical chance he can return for the AFCCG then I expect we'll see him IR'd quickly. If he isn't IR'd by Tuesday then I'll take that as a good sign. If he isn't IR'd on Wednesday then I'll take that to certainly mean the expectation is he will be back.

I disagree. If you play Waddle at LT for the divisional round, and then for the AFCCG, and then by some miracle you're headed to the SB, I still want Vollmer replacing Waddle.

Maybe so Ups. I assumed BB would see SB week as too late to have only a chance for Vollmer's return. I assume he would want a good chance he could return for the AFCCG with SB week a virtual certain return. But you could be right. Definitely possible BB will take any tangible chance at having Vollmer return even if it the only chance is a return in the SB.

That was not because of an ACL, he just sucked that day. The ACL was years later. Whats your point?

Would be nice to get an easier draw first round like KC and get back on track in that game.

KC has a pretty good D and they've won 9 games in a row. Still Alex Smith is not a scary QB, specially at Foxboro.

If by ok you mean getting Brady almost killed every time he drops back to pass, then yeah he'll be ok.
yeah you are right. It had nothing to do with the rest of the line being putrid and the fact that no receivers were getting open. But hey thats how you roll. Always right lol

Once 11 and 80 get back the oline will look much better, Brady won't have to wait long to find an open receiver.

Mankins played Guard at a near Pro Bowl level with a torn ACL. I would hope a tackle can play well enough on an ankle sprain. Yes I understand that a guards job is to just stand still and block while a tackle needs to move more.

Is a high ankle sprain seriously disabling, or is it mainly a matter of pain?

I think the term "sprain" is a bit overloaded, meaning several different things depending on body area. I know a finger sprain can be associated with swelling that in effect is disabling, but I've always thought that ankle sprains could be managed for a few hours a couple of times over the life of the sprain, perhaps at the risk of lengthening the overall recovery time.

Hopefully a low ankle sprain, not high

Although this guy says even a high ankle sprain shouldn't keep him out:

Too bad that Chao is the Lester Munson of medical analysis. But I hope that in this case he happens to be correct.

Edelman will be fine after about two plays.

It's also Brady throwing to Edelman, recalling his timing.

Also, Edelman's hands aren't like Moss'. He has a decent catch radius -- vs. e.g. Welker's -- but he also can have the dropsies, perhaps in part because still hasn't been a receiver all THAT long.

I don't think that's very important at all. Think of moss in 2007… He skipped the preseason and look what happened in game one. Edelman will be fine after about two plays.

Agreed. Also, Edelman sat out this entire pre-season due to a nagging injury.

Yet he looked completely fine in week 1 vs Pittsburgh. 11 rec, 97 yards.

I keep reading this here, Fencer, but everytime I see Chao's early analysis, he's pretty darn close, especially considering that he admits that he's only going by film. I actually think he's provided us with a reasonable timeline in most of the injury situations lately.

He's very good , I'm not sure where the meme started that he's terrible. Been right on almost everything I've seen this year.

Except that he has been dead on about injuries in what feels like 80% or more of the cases this year (100% if you only consider Pats injuries). Just because he had unrelated issues as a Doctor doesn't mean that his experience and opinion is void.

The bottomline is that he is the most accurate immediate predictor of NFL injuries that the public has. And since society has shifted to a place where everyone wants to know everything immediately and has no patience to wait 2-3 days for official confirmation he has a nice niche to work in.
