Again with the excuses. My post, addressing someone else, regarded the prevalent, but to me, forgivable nature of a certain measure of recency bias in a general sense. That should have been readily apparent to anyone viewing it in an objective fashion. You quoted me but were really responding to the poster I was engaging. Your self absorption and need to engage argumentatively both seem to know no bounds.

As to comparing eras, I have spoken my piece regarding comparing them. The only further thing I would add is in football there is a clear and recognized declination as to what defines the 'modern era' vs basketball where it is a bit fuzzier.
You quite literally quoted someone who was talking to me whose post was referring to our line of discussion. And I correctly said that in the context of what we were talking about there was no recency bias. I don't know how you can jump in on a conversation two people were having and start to discuss it out of the initial context and then accuse the person who was actually in the conversation of self absorption for pointing out that there was a relevant context to that post and all the posts preceding it. You literally took a post in a dialogue and began to discuss it in a vacuum. There's really no point in arguing it, I'm very well aware of what the post was about BECAUSE IT WAS A DIRECT RESPONSE TO A POST I MADE.

As for era's, that's debatable. Where would you call the clear and recognized line? The start of the Super Bowl era? I rarely see people compare guys like Starr/Unitas/Dawson/Namaith to their 80's peers in Montana/Marino/Elway. I'd say somewhere in there is a line. Then there's a lot of people that would say there is another schism from the 2004 rule changes on. It also depends on position. The running back position is incredibly comparable across era's. The WR position is not and has seen massive stat inflation across the board and Jerry Rice's longevity is really the last thing giving it any continuity. Obviously that holds true for QB. It's relatively impossible to compare stats from the 80's to anything today (Marino's 1984 season being the extreme outlier).

In basketball, there's no merger or Super Bowl era to split it by, but I know for a fact the 60's and 70's are regarded by nobody as the modern era of the game. I'd even say it;s very similar to football. Magic and Bird came in the 80's and ushered the new era that continued into Jordan and somewhere in the 2000's the game took a strong offensive...........................AND COUSIN'S TO THE WARRIORS. I'm done.

Why? People are posting in it. Doesn’t that mean it belongs? Give the people what they want.
The thread I was referring to was moved -- merged with the original Lebron thread, which is fine.

Yeah ... I read your idea ... but don't get too comfy ... I still dislike Jethro Tull.

Guys I hate to break it to you, the Celtics aren't beating the Warriors this year.

If cousins comes back to full health then yeah it’s prob a wrap. But a lot can happen between now and June.

Hahaha Cousins to the Dubs. LeBron isn’t even going to the Finals next season. They’ll be out in either the semis or the WCF.

Since we were talking about Super Teams and All Time teams. Take the entire Eastern Conference. Try to construct a team that is CLEARLY superior to the Warriors right now. Idk if you can.

Nope, he’s ring chasing next year
Just read the Lakers didn't want him. Him signing with the Warriors makes them unstoppable. Having an inside presence now with their outside shooting? Forget about it.

Just having the Lakers competitive again with a star player is fine with me for now. It has been brutal since 2012.

Worried about the locker room drama? To me cousins on a one year deal is a no brainer. If it doesn’t work out it’s only a year or maybe deal at the trade deadline. Lakers could’ve used him to replace Randle.

@graceless child, the modern era of pro football is quite generally acknowledged to be post merger. Many believe the era will someday be redefined somewhat by a separation inside it delineating B.P.P. and A.P.P. (Before and After the Polian ****ification). Some would say (I'd agree) a better point of delineation should it happen would be '94 due to the implementation of major passing rule changes as well as the salary cap coinciding with the expiring of most pre free agency contracts. But that has yet to happen and in terms of the way the league, HoF, the PFWA and any knowledgeable fan over 12 defines it the modern era has a definite beginning with the merger, unlike basketball there's no gray area to it.

Lebroni raymone James taking Ls even off the court. Smh.

@unintentionally comical geezer, nobody considers Staubach/Bradshaw/Griese/Steel Curtain/Purple People Eaters/Shula Dolphins to be the modern era. It's also different because in basketball it's easier to compare players whereas different positions are signicantly more difficult to compare across era's to others. It is not worth having a conversation about Brady and Manning vs guys like Elway/Montana/Marino on the basis of stats over a career. The second you try to compare Manning's stats to Montana people will shut it down as being a different era. Nobody likewise thinks Eli Manning's stats make him a top ten of all time. However it's still very possible to compare Jim Brown and Walter Payton to guys like Adrian Peterson and Tomlinson. So yeah when it comes to QB's most fans do consider 2004 to be a mark of difference.

So yeah many fans do have different interpretations of what the modern era is. And to be very blunt even if you want to say more grey area exists in basketball, we sure as hell know Wilt and Russell's era is not part of what anybody considers the modern era. **** you'd be hard pressed to find people who would consider the Bird/Johnson era to be part of this current era.

Not a fan but 154 million, probably gonna parlay his playing career into Hollywood or maybe owning a franchise. I’ll take those Ls he’s getting off the court.
