You quite literally quoted someone who was talking to me whose post was referring to our line of discussion. And I correctly said that in the context of what we were talking about there was no recency bias. I don't know how you can jump in on a conversation two people were having and start to discuss it out of the initial context and then accuse the person who was actually in the conversation of self absorption for pointing out that there was a relevant context to that post and all the posts preceding it. You literally took a post in a dialogue and began to discuss it in a vacuum. There's really no point in arguing it, I'm very well aware of what the post was about BECAUSE IT WAS A DIRECT RESPONSE TO A POST I MADE.Again with the excuses. My post, addressing someone else, regarded the prevalent, but to me, forgivable nature of a certain measure of recency bias in a general sense. That should have been readily apparent to anyone viewing it in an objective fashion. You quoted me but were really responding to the poster I was engaging. Your self absorption and need to engage argumentatively both seem to know no bounds.
As to comparing eras, I have spoken my piece regarding comparing them. The only further thing I would add is in football there is a clear and recognized declination as to what defines the 'modern era' vs basketball where it is a bit fuzzier.
As for era's, that's debatable. Where would you call the clear and recognized line? The start of the Super Bowl era? I rarely see people compare guys like Starr/Unitas/Dawson/Namaith to their 80's peers in Montana/Marino/Elway. I'd say somewhere in there is a line. Then there's a lot of people that would say there is another schism from the 2004 rule changes on. It also depends on position. The running back position is incredibly comparable across era's. The WR position is not and has seen massive stat inflation across the board and Jerry Rice's longevity is really the last thing giving it any continuity. Obviously that holds true for QB. It's relatively impossible to compare stats from the 80's to anything today (Marino's 1984 season being the extreme outlier).
In basketball, there's no merger or Super Bowl era to split it by, but I know for a fact the 60's and 70's are regarded by nobody as the modern era of the game. I'd even say it;s very similar to football. Magic and Bird came in the 80's and ushered the new era that continued into Jordan and somewhere in the 2000's the game took a strong offensive...........................AND COUSIN'S TO THE WARRIORS. I'm done.
