Kraft regrets giving Belichick so much power without “checks and balances” in place.

Really? The defense can't stay in their lanes or tackle. The offense can not execute a screen play. It is very ugly to me.
Only a few games into the season...new system, etc. Plus the talent level is meh. Plus Cov is a 1st year DC. I'm the patient type.

That’s a VERY generous way to describe a single Wild Card victory.
In the 1995 preseason they were in the conversation of being a SB contender.

The defense is not a new system, it is a continuation of last year's system. There were a lot of defensive players in FA and we signed Takitaki and Hawkins, no-one else of significance. This year's players are the same as last year (not meh since they finished Top 10 in 2023), and the Pats had a golden opportunity to sign more defensive players, i.e. Gilmore, Simmons, Wilkins, and others. So 1. it is not a new defensive system, 2. it is a continuation of last year's defense as evidenced in game #1, 3. the players are the same and there was a lot of opportunity to sign All Pro defensive players in FA, and 4. the coaching is Mayo and his hand picked defensive coordinator.

There is no excuse for a drop in the defense. It almost sounds like you are making excuses. The only reason for any drop is that Wolf did not sign defensive FAs and the defensive coaching sucks.

New system? Maybe not but different.

They are paying a ton more cover 2 and less man. Why? Because their rush and run D suck.

No excuse? Look at who played on the D last year and this year and tell me there isn't a drop off on the front 7.

I don't think RK is a kinkster like @XLIX posts. Most people are not kinksters - he could be but that is not the majority of the situations. The "happy endings" does lend itself to a kinkster profile either.

The explanation is usually something really simple. I think RK is super cheap and that reflects throughout his life. The simplest explanation is usually the correct one. RK, the lonely billionaire, drove his Bentley to the strip mall because it was cheap, quick, and easy, with the enphasis on cheap.
Occams razor ..

I think Bill was a good coach, but clearly #2 in terms of architects of dynasty.

I think the team is worse without him than with him.

I think letting him go was the right choice simply because based on his conferences he had become complacent with loosing and seemed to have lost his hunger.

I want his termination to revitalize him and him to come back to coaching with a F you attitude to the NFL and set the league on fire.

Half the League are Super Bowl contenders - in August.
OK so your position is Modell moving the team had no impact on a team which was 11-5 the year before?

Contender or not...he ****ed them

In the 1995 preseason they were in the conversation of being a SB contender.
And in the 1996 season, our 6 win (1995) Patriots defense suddenly became hugely opportunistic and ended up in the Super Bowl. I credit Belichick with that.

Granted, Terry Glenn, Curtis Martin and Keith Byars had a lot to do with it on the offensive side.

Where is the drop off in the Front 7? Now you are making more excuses. Excuses are like Asian ****ies, they make my skin crawl. The Pats chose to pass on Wilkins when he was the best available DT in FA and they had the money. And the Pats chose to trade Judon. So the front 7 at the start of 2023 was Duggar, Peppers, Bentley, Jennings, Godchaux, Barmore, and Judon, and the front 7 at the start of 2024 could have been Duggar, Peppers, Bentley, White, Wilkins, Barmore/Godchaux, and Judon. The 2024 front 7 looks a lot better than the 2023 front 7. After injuries in 2023 the front 7 was Bentley, Duggar, Peppers, Jennings, Barmore, White, and Judon, and in 2024 it could have been Duggar, Mapu, Takitaki, Jennings, Wilkins, White, and Judon. The other player in both years is Jennings so he cancels himself out when comparing.

There is very little drop off in the front 7 if the Pats signed defensive FAs in 2024 and did not trade away their best front 7 player. You want to give the Pats' management a pass after their self-inflicted player management errors, and I want to hold the Pats accountable for mismanaging the 2024 defensive roster. Two different posters, two different approaches. I do not like excuses or free passes for mismanagement.

Of course we are not talking about the 2023 versus 2024 secondary where the 2024 version is vastly superior with proper roster management. You didn't want to talk about the secondary because that makes the 2024 defensive coaching look even worse (your buddy Covington needs to go).

Please don't say all of this is 20/20 hindsight as I have been advocating for the Pats to continually upgrade their core defensive roster instead of carrying over the cap dollars for some mysterious huge future spend. I have been advocating for the last 10 months for the Pats to sign Gilmore (to coach and mentor Gonzo), Wilkins, Simmons or McKinney instead of Hawkins (really obvious signing if you are not super cheap), and a 2nd corner opposite Gonzo like Awuzie or Bunting/Williams.

Sounds like Kraft wants to meddle in the draft, free agency, and player contracts. The might explain the Patriots pathetic off season. While Wolf is taking the heat, I think that it is ownership that is screwing up. The latest screw up might be the loss of Judon, but I don't know the details. How has the Patriots pass rush been lately?

Kraft says he wanted to do it the classy way - by dropping a dynasty doc dumping on bill, calling up blank and now saying he regrets not having checks and balances. Also has said he will honor bill the same way as tom once he is done. Way to go RKK.

My position is that no one in the past 40 years has said "The Browns might win it all this year!!"
Contender or not...he ****ed them
Maybe.... but that's not the statement I was responding to.....

Kraft needs to keep his mouth shut. I thought that he was smart enough but his ego is getting in his way.
He's trying to put down the guy who coached his teams to 9 AFC Championships and 6 Super Bowls. He also made Kraft a lot of money.
Now for those who say it was Tom and not Bill, I challenge you to watch the Super Bowl seasons over and look at all the very talented players on those teams.
It was both Tom and Bill and a bunch of talented players that were drafted or brought in by the GM (Bill).

In 1995 Dr Z picked them to play Dallas in the SB

They are missing Barmore, Judon and Bentley.

If you are saying they are better this year then we are done here.

Bill is getting in before him and it's driving him crazy.

Hes blowing through 1/5ths of Buffalo Trace Kosher whisky like no tomorrow.
There is kosher alcohol? Thought it was just food.

At least I have learned something from this dumb ass 300 reply thread.

Yes, I occasionally cannot help but take part in these dumb ass threads...

I thought he had checks and balances the last few years, or at least that's what we've been told by some posters.
That's a good point. Maybe it was not total or just last year, so too late.

If I were to take a guess, he is talking about letting Brady go as that's when things really went to ****.
