Gostowski is a 3.8 mill possible cap savings for next season. Any chance they move on from the soon to be 36 year old? I think most of us want to see him return, but it would be a fair amount of cap savings if they decide to go in another direction (Folk or possibly in the draft).

I'd prefer not to have to watch Folk just barely make field goals, but he was good for us. Bit of a dire situation for kickers in the league right now, so Folk outta have suitors if he doesn't stay.

Is there a need to make some serious cuts cap wise? I haven't done a deep dive on the cap situation. I think I'd prefer to keep him unless there's a rookie they feel really good about.

I'm probably in the minority, but I would stick with Folk. Despite his reputation preceding him, I thought he was solid. I found myself not worrying on every kick that we were about to be treated to another episode of "Adventures in Kicking." I think Gost's injury may be hard to come back from at his age.

I think it depends on his injury only. If he’s healthy, he’s here and that’s a good deal for him. We saw how important a good kicker is and how barren the market is. I don’t believe the draft has many good K prospects this year, either.

Could do the same with Gost and cut or trade him later.

No way it’s folk. But a draft pick makes sense. The 3.4 you save isn’t huge but I would imagine it would come at cutdown time which is helpful. This is only a possibility because of gostkowskis age and hip surgery not being a great thing for a kicker.

Gostkowski has no roster bonuses or guarantee vesting that would necessitate a move. They should just keep him until they either absolutely need that cap room or it’s clear that he won’t win the job.

    Either -
    A) Let him and Folk go, burn a 3rd for Blankenship.

    B) Let him go and bring back Folk at a savings.

    C) Bring back Gost.

Folk is streaky between 40-49 yards (only 4 for 7 at this range with NE). We need a kicker more reliable outside 40. Draft someone and let him compete with Ghost.

Restructure Gostkowski .... Making too much right now, based on everything we went through in 2019, his cap his way too high...

If he doesn't want to take a haircut, cut him and eat the 1.4, or whatever the actual number will be...

and bring in real competition... Draft a potential replacement...

I don’t know what is to come, nor do I know where SG is at health-wise.

Folk was an excellent pickup. I thought he and Bethel were fantastic this year.

14-17 on FG and 12 for 12 on XP. Shocking... And that's with Jake "laces be damned" Bailey as the holder.

I can’t imagine anyone would have expected that type of production from a player signed at that point of the season. If I remember correctly, at least two of those three misses were in poor conditions or at long distances.

It should be plenty to get him a look somewhere this summer.

At 36 and coming off an injury, I would be leery of Ghost unless he was willing to restructure. Sign Blankenship and maybe even invite the trick kicker Gable.

You should post this where Volin can find it on a Google search for the inevitable Kicker drama article. He needs all the help he can find on Google.

On that note, I was pleasantly impressed by the consistency of Bailey’s kickoffs since he took over, including in the playoff game. Not quite as strong a leg as Gost but still able to get it into the end zone consistently in Foxboro in January. His punting was more inconsistent as the year went on though; I wonder how much of that had to do with the dual role.
