Just Say No to Revis - Patriots Should Pass

Just wondering is sherman attainable if Saints give back #32 and NE uses that to get him ?

Why would we pay Sherman 10-11m for 2 years if we only offer Butler 7-8m. I can't overstate the good old quote that we are not collecting talent but building a team.

Mevis is toast. That won't stop him from getting some clueless team to agree to overpay him though. He'll go out the same way he came in, squeezing every last dollar out of the NYFL that he can.

I think people invest too much time into discussing those (social) media statements by Revis. In the big scheme of things they will be one of the later things that are relevant to the question whether we would acquire him.

Either way it's not happening anyway:

Sure you do. Let's say BB believes Revis can contribute & they win it all with the help of a rejuvenated player. (For the record, I think he's done, but I gladly defer to BB if he brings Revis back)

Let's see then..... "disrespect" and a SB. No brainer. Who the hell cares about disrespect ? What is disrespect ? Is BB in the business of respect & feelings or winning ?

I watch my fav team & cheer for wins. Championships. Not feelings, unicorns, and disrespect. Winning is everything here. These people are not our friends. I don't have to like Revis' comments to LOVE winning.
I'm sure BB is thrilled that you will defer to him. :D
Actually BB cares about respect and disrespect. Ask Wes Welker.

Yeah. Vet minimum for him would be 1 million. That's better than not getting the 1 million back. What do I care if he's on a couch or playing for another team?

But if he plays I'd bet it'll be more.
OK, maybe you are the exception. If Revis has 1 pass defensed in each Jets game and the Jets paid $5 million for it, I'm sure we will hear whining about it from Jet fans.
If it is significantly more, he can play for someone else. Frankly his value is in the Jets paying him to play for us.
BTW, the only way I can see this is if Revis wants to stick it to the Jets. Oh, before you point out he has no reason to be mad at the team he screwed - I agree. Emotions are often unreasonable, though.

You have to admit.... it would be pretty cool to have the Jets pay Revis to help the Patriots beat the Jets.

And I don't think Revis is dumb enough to play on a one year deal for free without any guarantee of money after that. A team could use him for basically nothing and then just drop him.
one year deal and allow the team to dump him after
He pretty much played a 1-year deal his first go-round in NE, so I don't see why you think he wouldn't do it again.

He already has a clueless team overpaying him for 2017. That's why he can go elsewhere for league minimum.

Big difference between then and now. First off he's getting 6mil regardless of if he plays or not. Second, he's near/at the end of his career. Third, as I've tried to explain previously, the 6mil is a unique situation for him to use as a bargaining chip to extend his career more than one season. If he doesn't get more than one year guaranteed, why play? Just take the 6mil and retire.

He was just trying to be a good foot-soldier.

The reason why he would take a 1 year deal for league minimum is that he gets the $6 million and will be a UFA next season. Hell, if that happened, the Jets would probably offer him 6 years, $77 million with $48 million guaranteed.

Yup I've heard that argument but don't agree with it at all. Seems foolish for Revis to give up his best bargaining chip (year 1 savings) to a team that could dump him after.

If he was younger... maybe. But just dont see it. We'll find out shortly.

He could post about flat earth and the tenets of national socialism and I'd still like to see him come here and be instrumental in winning another champsionship cause that **** never gets old.

If we lose Butler and Revis would sign for a cheap 1 year deal, maybe this could become a thing.

He really seems to have lost a step though so I'm not sure BB is interested.

Actually in terms of BASE salary - Sherman would only cost the Pats 11m per season for the 2017 and 2018 seasons. That is quite reasonable when Logan Ryan got 10m per elsewhere as a free agent. He would also be in his prime at age 28, 29 those seasons. And then you can let him walk if you wish. But Sherman + Gilmore would be a scary good secondary.

Salary details:
Richard Sherman

Too much loot, pherein. Sherman would cost what, 14m dollars a year? Combine that with Gilmore (13) and McCourty (11-12m in 2018) and you'd be looking at 40m dollars a year tied up by three players.

Last time I checked Butler wanted out and was courting the Saints.

Richard Sherman is also a significantly better player than Butler and matches up well against the tall stud receivers that have proliferated in the NFL. Such as you know, Julio Jones, the guy who torched us in the last Superbowl where Brady had to pull off a miracle comeback to win.

It doesn't matter if he wants out or not. The economic reality is that he can be had for 8-9m APY for 2 years. He is 27 years he can't afford to sit around or phone it in for those 2 years because he only has one realistic shot at big money in UFA.

Also didn't see Jones torching anyone but speak for yourself. But yeah it was exciting to see Brady dig us out of the hole he helped to dig in the first half.

If the Pats pay Revis does it count against what the Jets are paying him or add onto it?

Cause for $4m out of pocket... He's lost a step but I also think we are the one team that could eek 2-3 years of starter-level play from the guy.
