Judon apparently doesn't think he's going to get paid.

Haynes was great, but hard to say if he was better than Law. I do remember Tim Fox as a hard-hitting safety with him in the defensive backfield as well. Very solid.

I agree, so why continue to guess?
because it is not done yet, and in 16 days he more than likely will be holding out or holding in.
the only potential downside with Judon is the team owing him big money in 25/26 when they might be on the verge of being competitive and want to spend the money on true difference makers. in theory, at 34 years old, that will not be Judon.

if they can work more money thru incentives this season, and next season guarantees big money if he reaches those incentives, I could be for that type of deal. but the player, at 32 years old coming off season end surgery, also needs to assume some of that risk on future money

Not more of a sack threat, but Chandler Jones was up there. Like Judon, they became better players when they left their original teams.
Your absolutely correct. Judon never had the production in Baltimore that he's had here. When he signed his deal in 2021 it was for what Bill thought of him as a player and what he could be.. he's been everything and more.. so my thinking is judon wants to be compensated for his production.. like von Miller got paid off reputation from Buffalo.. 100 million..

Judon was compensated for his production at the top end of the going rate at the time he signed.
the going rate changed, as it always does with a rising cap, and as an aging player under contract, Judon lost his leverage. it happens to every player in the league.
Von Miller was a free agent coming off an impressive SB run of play. Judon can also have an impressive run and go into free agency after this season. or he can sign a 2 year deal with the 2nd year not fully guaranteed.
he can't have the team assume all the risk, as a deal will never get done, rightfully so for the team

Not surprising. He is older and coming off of injury. Also his production consistently fades at the end of the year. As a 4 win team, I think we have given out enough big contracts. Let the season play out.

That's right Miller did win a SB with LA.. shocked he didn't resign there. But when he signed with the bills he got a 100 million dollar contract... he wasn't the same player he was..

Even with no new extensions ( I personally favor more), we need to accomodate Judon and Godchaux (and Peppers) enough so that they choose to play THIS year.

Normally I would agree, but if the team is going to re-sign Dugger & Tavai to big-money extensions, then Judon should be given some sort of guarantee for this season as a sign of good faith...

Got admire the agenda of the tankers here: crap the bed this year in the hope that bye and bye there'll be some pie.

What fun this season will be!

If tanking is what we are doing, wake me when we have a football team again -- if I should live so long.
I mean, the Pats had $100M in cap space and didn't sign a single impact free agent, at any position. Instead, they opted to re-sign much of their own players from a roster that went 3-14. What are we as fans supposed to think?

It's not an agenda, just a willingness to take an objective look at the team.

can't argue with your point
but what we do not know is how many of the impact guys did they offer, and not sign? (other than Ridley)

that said, who were the impact free agents you wanted?

I followed all those teams very closely -- I was at the awful 1978 playoff game when Fairbanks announced he was leaving for Colorado.

IMO, Ray Clayborn was a better CB for the Pats than Haynes was.

It’s amazing how much money they’ve actually spent just to retain a 4-13 team. That’s very bad management of the cap. We will revisit these bad contracts sometime this season.

if they signed Ridley they more than likely would have gone OT in the Polk draft slot.

I doubt it. The run on tackles in the first round cleaned out the best prospects. I would have loved to see them take one of the top 2 centers there.

The reason that the team had so much cap room is because a huge number of players contracts were scheduled to expire. Probably to provide a circuit breaker on the Mac rebuild. This gave the team flexibility on who to keep and who to let go. Wolf really had no choice but to keep the players he had and liked to avoid creating more holes in the roster. Only time will tell which contracts are good and which contracts are bad. Lets hope he chose the right players to retain.
