Why would McDaniels push up his interview dates if he wasn’t anxious to become a head coach.

These are two way interviews. He can be interested now and become not interested in a hurry if owners want to start limiting him to certain QBs, GMs, or assistant coaches that are already in place.

My guess is that’s exactly what’s happening. Another option would be for BB to bring back Pioli if he is interested.

Having to work for Dave Gettleman is a perfectly valid reason to turn it down. If he can get Gettleman fired and get his own GM in there, then sure.
