I've been hearing some rumors that with Wynn at LG and Brown at LT, we might look into trading Thuney or straight-up releasing him. Maybe it's just me, but I really don't like that idea. No line stays 100% healthy all year, and he seems like too valuable an insurance piece. Maybe that's just me though.

Zero chance they release thuney, hes still on his rookie deal and provides tremendous value.. even if he were beat out and was a backup

I'd rather have depth along our OL than trade him, unless it was for a high 2nd or something

Trades not happening. The idea of him being replaced as a starter is reasonable though.

I'm not sure if even a high second would get it done for me.

Thuney is considerably better than every other backup interior lineman, and if/when one goes down he'll be in the lineup. With Brady at 41, I want the best possible unit protecting him. If he goes down, the season's over

You really feel that highly of him? Where would you rank him on most important Pats players when it comes to winning a SB?

I would rank Tom Brady number one by a mile. Where would you rank him?

I may not have worded my initial post well. I'm saying keep Thuney because having him leads to less hits on Brady, which naturally increases our odds of keeping him healthy. If Brady goes down, the season is over.

Hard to tell where to rank him, but I’d rather have him than not have him. The idea of trading him seems pretty asinine. Releasing him outright is downright insane. It’s not like he’s on the last year of his deal either.

I do feel though however that it wouldn’t be improbable for someone to take his spot and perform at a higher level. Not sure if the player to do that is currently on the roster though. Maybe they’ll be on it next year.

Keeping Brady upright and healthy can’t be emphasized enough. In comparison to the rest of the league, hopefully the Pats can churn out a top 5 OL unit. I don’t think they have that right now, but we’ll see.

Thuney's role? More probably than not to protect the G.O.A.T from sacks and from time to time make some holes to our RBs for effective runnings :)

Absolutely no reason to trade or release Thuney, as he’d still provide valuable backup duty and you’re not going to get anything higher than a 4th/5th for him.

I’m on board with attempting to upgrade the starting position, however.

No, I am Chuck, but David is my nephew. As far as I know, he doesn't know that I link stuff here, I'm just trying to help him out. If that's a no-no on this site, I'll stop posting the links

Thuney isn't going anywhere. With Cannon still banged up, we need all the healthy O-lineman we can get.

Thuney just had surgery. He should be ready for the season, but we've heard that before.

    Depth is good.

Can we link to a better crafted, more reputable website? That site comes across as one of those old, free, Angelfire websites that kids used to set up and the author/editor seems like a schmuck on wheels.

"I'm just trying to help him out."
Hmmm, that's a far cry from your previous denial when asked if you were trawling for clicks and responded "Nope, just found it interesting." As for the 'rumors' you've been hearing from your (ahem) 'nephew' he must be the one making them up. Thuney's cap hit is $858k with a dead hit of $387k if he were released, a starting caliber guard sure as heck isn't getting cut over those numbers. Maybe the aforementioned 'nephew' should do a little basic research as part of getting the "Last word on Pro Football."

This is one of those "the cover up is worse than the crime" type deals.

But despite who wrote it the "rumored" inspired article assumes a few things nobody, aside from maybe BB and Scar, knows.

"Should Brown struggle, chances are Isaiah Wynn would shift over from left guard to left tackle, and Brown would be sent to the bench. Wynn should be more than capable of starting at left tackle, so nobody would worry if he needed to protect Brady’s blindside."

    What?

I like Wynn the draft pick but have never seen him play a single meaningful NFL snap. So I'm not sure how someone could go from losing Solder to "nobody would worry" if Wynn started at LT. I'm worried about RT as well unless Cannon shows that he's healthy.

The only value, thus far, I see in Trent Brown is that he's A, an offensive lineman and B, his name's initials have never failed this team yet.

    TB

    Troy Brown
    Tedy Bruschi
    Tom F'ing Brady

    Trent Brown?

By the way, Ted Karras is a solid backup and can handle multiple Oline roles when needed. He's a valuable depth piece imo. Your or your "nephew's" article doesn't seem to value him as much.
