Jimmy's Value

If Jimmy goes 4-0, I say you let him start over Brady in week 5 against Cleveland. Show case him and maybe hoax the Browns into doing something stupid. They have like 2 first and 2 seconds that would be awesome to get any combination of. Maybe a first and a switch of our (hopefully 32nd) with one of theirs (say, like their first from the Eagels)
Also, it probably wouldn't hurt to give Brady and extra week to get back in the swing of things, and not to mention, a extra week for rest probably won't hurt also. It also would allow him to start week 6 when hopefully a bunch of players will be coming of PuP.
Just my 2 cents!

Don't forget the 5-11 Browns beat us in Cleveland in 2010, one of our 2 losses in the regular season that year. And that was with Brady.

These games are not for trying to maximize draft picks or develop rookies or any of that ****. You play to win the game.

And Brady will be rusty after his time off. Do you really want him to sit, then throw him in cold against the Bengals, with @ Steelers, @ Bills after?

Actually, do you ever want to sit the GOAT if you don't have to? We've already lost 4 games of his brilliant career this season. I don't ever want to lose another.

Goodell was seen going down the basement at 345 Park Ave. for some primal scream therapy, nothing compares to trying to destroy a team that he hates by somehow giving them more high round draft picks to compensate for the ineptitude of his front office..

That was a Ratgini/Daboll/Rob Ryan coaching staff. They know the weakness of the system and had a great day exploiting them.

I expect a similar set of challenges with HOU.

I think one of the 49ers, Bears or Browns will end up picking top 3 and take DeShaun Watson.

Redskins might be an option if Cousins implodes this year.

Saints aren't realistic option since they just extended Brees/expect him to play at least 2 more years. They would then have to give up a likely 1st rounder AND pay Garoppolo big $.

Surprise option: Detroit Lions.

thing is that JimmyG will not hit the salary cap until after next year.......and even then, an extension can easily make the first year not cap prohibitive with another QB under contract

which is exactly why I think he winds up staying here........the pats can stagger his cap hit until Brady is done....Jimmy is still under rookie deal next year, and the 2018 and 2019 years do not have to be cap killers.

basically, the Pats can part ways with Brady (or vice versa) without the cap killing them starting 2018

not saying they will, but from a capology standpoint, it would be somewhat feasible to keep Garoppolo and extend him.

I'm not sure we want to part with a guy who can keep the team winning this way........it may take a few tries to find the next one

It boggles my mind that anyone would consider trading Brady while he is still the best player in football.

My preference is to keep both........

however on one hand, it would be insane to trade him, but it is also pretty ridiculous to see his career as open-ended at the age of 39

Since Goodell stole a 1st and a 4th from the Patriots, it's only fitting that Jimmy should net them a 1st and a 4th.

Not enough. I want a 2nd round pick as well since that is what the Pats originally used to draft Jimmy.

Absolutely, without a second thought. That's a top 10 (likely top 5) pick and a HOF, best-of-this-generation LT whose cap hit is a pretty reasonable $10M per year through 2018. He's cheaper than Solder, and quite a bit better. Even if Thomas is only 80% of himself by the end of the contract--which overstates his likely decline IMO--he'll still be easily worth it.

We could then possibly keep Vollmer as a backup OT to both positions for 2-3 years.

That's a win!

If Jimmy continues to develop Cleveland likely to trade their whole team for him...We might find a player or 2 from the Browns that we could use.

I suspect Jimmy is already worth more to the patriots than anyone would give up for him.

I'm guessing Brady looking at 2 or 3 more years. Not sure Jimmy wants to wait that long.
Still time for Pats to pick up another college guy and develop him.

I want to see how Jimmy does over the next few weeks, before firming up this opinion, but securing a good young QB's is the NFL equivalent of hitting the lottery. If Jimmy keeps playing at a high level it will be extraordinarily difficult for the Pats to find another heir apparent to Brady in 2 years, when they will likely need one. To make this task even more difficult, it's unlikely that Josh McDaniels will stick around to train the next guy.

The ultimate "Big Balls" Belichick move would be to trade a 40 year Brady for multiple first round draft picks, hand over the reigns to Jimmy G & set the team up to win 3 or 4 more championships over the next 10 years.

Did anybody watch the Rams-49ers game? If not, you missed two quarterbacks throwing a combined 70 times for a combined 300 yards. Case Keenum was particularly notable for his 0-TD, 2-INT peformance leading the Rams to zero points scored.

Of course, Keenum won't be L.A.'s starter forever. They held the #1 overall pick in the draft and chose QB Jared Goff...who was unactive for the game. Because he's not ready to play in the NFL yet. Because he's a rookie.

That's what happens when you draft a quarterback: you get a rookie quarterback. If you're in rebuilding mode, you may be happy to be patient and give him time to develop into an NFL starter (assuming he ever does). But if you believe that the rest of your team is ready to compete NOW, a pre-trained young QB with some successful starting experience is an attractive option, even at a fairly high price tag. See: Brock Osweiler, Houston Texans.

If Jimmy keeps playing well, IMO four games should be enough to get him there.

I think you would agree that Jimmy played 10x better and was more impactful than Cassell did on that day vs KC.
Completely apples and oranges comparisons. Jimmy AND the team had 4 months to prepare for him playing in this game. Castle had about 2 minutes.

Gotta think McDaniels or Patricia are getting jobs next year atleast one of the two might not be here. And if their QB situations suck they might want Jimmy G. Would BB give em Jimmy G at a discount like he did Matt Cassell ??yes...no...maybe so.

Don't know if it's been posted in this thread yet or not, here's something I posted in another thread that was discussing Jimmy's value:

Predicting Garoppolo's Next Contract After Week 1

suggests that Jimmy is in line for a Brock Ostweiler kind of payday.

Not sure how that translates into draft picks needed to get Jimmy's rights.

Pretty sure we're overstating his value, but all it takes is one desperate party to set the market.

It boggles my mind that so many people here have consigned Garoppolo to trade bait. This player could be worth more to the Patriots than a draft pick or two as an important contributor for years to come.
Daftniks worship draft picks. It is all out to proportion to what they merit. Brady is 40. He will need to be replaced within three years. If you are lucky enough to have a qualified replacement you keep him ]. He is cheap for two more seasons and Brady is signed for 3 more years at a high price. Who is to say that the Pats will not need a sub QB for an injury or that ta Brady will be worth his salary in three years?

These Draftniks act as if having a 4th reserve at CB or Offensive lineman is worth not having an adequate QB. QB is the most critical position to have a franchise starter, and if he is good enough and a groomed replacement for an elderly one. Polo is not going anywhere for a couple of years!

Sure but Jimmy still played better and was more impactful.

Plus in the subsequent 2-3 games after KC Cassell was very average.

It was after Thanksgiving that Cassell really started to play at a fairly high level.

With that said, it would not surprise me if Jimmy has a clunker over the next 3 games.
