He's tanking to avoid the tanking Jets.
Imagine being 21 years old and getting drafted by the tanked Jete to be their "savior." With their idiot owner, clueless GM/coaching staff and moronic fan base. In the swamp lands of New Jersey. In the year marking 50 seasons without a championship. He would enter a perfect storm of unrelenting pressure, incompetence and insanity. I'm beginning to hope it happens.

Imagine Brady going to a team that had never won a superbowl.

Or even now, being a player drafted by one of the thirteen teams that have never won the superbowl.

It's must be unbearable.

IF your Green Beans draft a quarterback early in the first round, he will be expected to start immediately and succeed immediately. No sage veteran to sit behind and learn from. Goofball owner, clown GM, mediocre coaching, stupid and impatient fan base. Team nickname taken from a Broadway musical. Not even their own city or stadium to identify with. It's a recipe for DISASTER!

I was literally just going to write that.

Even if they hit a home run next year the roster is so bad it'll take 3-5 years to even really compete and be relevant.

Actually I'm not sure that's true. They sat Hack a whole season.

This current crew doesn't seem to care much about the media complaining. I know I won't mind the kid sitting for weeks, months or even a season if needed. But I also won't mind him learning on the fly so long as he has a decent oline and a couple weapons to work with.

Just do whatever is best for the youngin'. No pressure.

It really isn't. It's just missing some key pieces: QB, LT, WR1n2 (but Quincy will be back).

A draft with a bunch of great picks will go a long way in filling those holes. Then the close to 100mil in cap space will be more than enough to finish the job.

NO PRESSURE?! That's a laugh. Your mythical QB savior will be on the road to ruin the day he's drafted.

Eh, I suppose some media/writers will be after the kid. Maybe even some fans. But honestly I'd figure most fans won't mind a season or two of development.

Hell most don't mind this very strategic tank right now. Us Jet fans are a patient breed.

Bro you are in such denial when it comes to your roster. This isn't being a Pats homer or jets hater. It's terrible.

Your oline is patch work and hope.

Your weapons besides Q who is good but nowhere near great are almost nonexistent. Robby Anderson, Kearse, A.D. Stewart and Chad Henson.

I like McGuire though.

And obviously QB is a black hole.

How was Lee last year?

Davis is terrible and deep down you know it.

2 rookie S's

You guys are in no man's land and don't have a light. After a half century of suck. Watching your most hated rival hold a fist full of rings and trouble finding a spot for another Championship banner.

Yeah, it's only been 49 years of "development." What's another two, eight or 15 years? For that matter, why not tank three years straight? That way, the Jete can pile up even more cap money and draft picks for even BETTER off-seasons to look forward to.

Well don't be too concerned. If the rookie QB isn't awesome right away I'm sure there will be plenty of NY "reporters" writing articles to post here in the 2018 version of this thread.

huh?...wha?

Whoops, suppose autocomplete on phone added "'s" to "It".

Basically it must've been horrible for Brady going to a team that had never won a superbowl.

That's right, scapegoat the media in advance of your team's continued suckage. Unbelievable.

I know there are holes. But the team is extremely young and almost all homegrown. I like where it sits now.

Lee wasn't bad and obviously still learning. Davis is the veteran surrounded by youngin's. No issue there.

Maybe the D could add a CB or two next season. Depends on how Claiborne and Skrine do this year. But I'm loving how the D is shaping up.

Oline? Guards are good. Center I think filled in well for Mangold last year for 8 games. RT could be set, but still need some experience. LT is the problem at the moment.

Powell is cool at RB. But RBs are a dime a dozen.

ASJ actually is looking good at TE.

WR is empty in terms of top talent, but Quincy is a good 2 or 3. The two rookies (Hansen and Stewart) look promising so far.

I see a young talented team missing the flashy/key pieces that will allow the team to "tank" while also developing.

You have to temper expectations for any rookie QB, but next year this team will be very similar roster-wise, yet will also be tremendously improved at the key spots of QB/WR/LT...

Likely enough to be a playoff contender right away.
