Content Post Jets Suck -- 2017 Edition (Official): Countdown to Oblivion

This has an opening post with good commentary and information, which we definitely recommend reading.

Agreed.

Hoping to lose so that you can suddenly be good next year is a fool's errand. The same crappy teams draft high year after year, yet remain crappy.

It isn't the players, it is the culture and mentality, and that applies to the winners and the losers. You don't change the culture overnight, or just because you drafted the latest "can't miss" QB.

Unlike the many piling on JetsFan74 on this thread, I don't fault the Jets for tanking, or for at least cutting the dead weight (which was what about 80% of last year's personnel was) and taking a hit to get a high draft pick and salary cap space. I think it's what they should do and should have done since the Idzik year. I'm just baffled that they keep pouring resources into the defense when it's likely that they're going to be able to draft some top QB prospect next year. Great, you drafted Darnold or Allen. Quincy Enunwa or Robbie Anderson is going to be his #1 receiver. Maybe they'll finally give Bilal Powell #1 back carries? Maybe they'll throw money and picks at the line to replace 2 or 3 starting positions. Their TEs should still be mediocre. They should draft 100% offensive players next year, but their CBs, DEs and LB groups still seem mediocre at best. I feel sorry for the QB expected to save the Jets next year.

Rule No. 1: Tanking is an act of desperation that encourages loser mentality and can have devastating long-term consequences.

Rule No. 2: Feeling sorry for anything Jete is foolhardy.

Rule No. 3: KickMe2018 is a self-proclaimed Great Moron.

You don't seem to understand the situation.

Odds are one of Mo or Sheldon won't be here in 2018 anyway. There really is only room for two stud DEs on a team. Are we gonna pay 3 DEs around 20mil per year each?

Leonard Williams is a lock. Wilk is signed for a while, but can be traded. Sheldon is playing for a deal this year. I personally prefer Sheldon over Wilk, but they're both damn good.

If nothing is done, Sheldon leaves as a FA in 2018 and we get nothing in return.

So why wouldn't you trade one if the opportunity presented itself? I know some of you have to see this is the smart move (not sure if Tuney can comprehend it though ).

And for all the whining about the Jets just emptying their roster...
  1. Marshall didn't want to be part of a rebuilding and young QB process in his last two years. Understandable. So definitely release him.
  2. Decker is injured all the time and held out like a prick last year for ****z. Smart to dump him. (We still should've kept his wife around to do something though.)
  3. Mangold was older and expensive. No sense carrying the contract for a rebuilding year only to see him retire in 2018 or '19.
  4. Harris... see Mangold.
  5. Revis, lol duh.
  6. Clady was too expensive and just retired.
All wise moves no one with any common sense can really complain about.

So yes I believe the team is actively rebuilding and accepting a losing season to get a top draft pick, but they're not making any moves that aren't beneficial to the short-term future (2018) of the team.

It's genius I tell ya.

OK. Got it.

Get rid of the expensive **** and replace it with the some cheap ****.

Why pay 165 million a year to suck when you can do it for less??

But watch guys. They're loading up for an SB run in 2018. New system, New GM, New Coach, New Players, New Uniforms and a New excuse by week 8.

Thanks, but you're a bit harsh judging what the Jets do have.

Defense
First off, did you say the DEs are mediocre?
LBs? We have 4 LBs drafted in the last 2 years. This will be a big year for them to develop.
Safeties obviously just drafted.
Weakest point on D is CB. Skrine is a good slot CB but not living up to his contract. Claiborne may be darn good if he can stay healthy.

Offense
QBs suck.
WRs solid 2/3 in Quincy. Robby Anderson looks to have some potential. Bunch of 2nd year and rookie guys to develop this year.
Oline isn't that bad. 2 good Guards. I happen to like Johnson at Center. RT may be set, but LT we may need to address.
RB? Powell is plenty good enough.
TE? Rookie and ASJ. Gotta see how the year goes.

So between the draft and 90mil in cap... QB, WR1, RB2, LT CB.

We're good.

Good for WHAT?! Suddenly winning? What a load of crap.

Please tell me what Blowes is saying to his players before the opener when they look around the locker room and see a poorly prepared team with no credible veteran leadership. "OK, guys. Ownership and the front office have mailed it in this year, not paying anyone and looking toward a top draft pick in 2018. Just do your best and try not to get seriously hurt, because winning is not important. In fact, it's discouraged because of the new 'grand plan.' So let's treat this season as 'practice.' If you do well enough you can come back next year when you're SUPPOSED to win, hopefully with a savior rookie replacing you three -- Quackenbush, Pitty and McClown. We are Jete. We suck!"

Football teams just don't magically recover from tanked seasons because of cap money and draft picks.

You have much to learn old grasshopper.

You're learning.

I am and I keep learning.

Somehow you've convinced yourself that the **** sandwich of a story fed to you a few months ago equates to a victorious 2018 or 2019 or maybe even 2020 but if not then definitely 2021 season.

I'm not even convinced your GM and HC will survive the season. Do you think they'll get the axe prior to the draft?

They could. I'd just be guessing. Really no way to tell what Woody Macc n Bowles have discussed.

And I wasn't fed this **** sandwich. I've been calling for something similar for years. And this year with a great QB draft coming is the perfect time for it.

He's delusional of course. Lol.

Would you trust them to develop a QB?

But what you are missing is it takes more than a "great" QB. Just look at Luck. They have ruined him. David Carr. List goes on and on.

In today's NFL it isn't as easy as just plugging in the number one QB. There are cautionary tales everywhere and I'd put it in the 60th percentile that the next Jete QB will be a failure not due to his ability per se, but the pounding he will take.

Whatever QB the Jets draft is going to have a great situation. A team that has basically prepped for him a year in advance and has a large amount of cap to support. Want a shiny new FA WR1 and LT?... sure no problem. Here's the credit card.

Lol. You just don't get it do you? That okay. Oh can just plug and play every player.

Right. That there is why it will fail.

Who said every player? See my previous posts describing the current state of the roster and what will be needed for 2018.

Oddly enough, the only place I see people worried about this team in 2018 is here.

Most others seem to realize the team will be very good this time next year. Will a rookie QB come in and be awesome right away?... Probably not. But he'll have the team around him to succeed.

You have 1 player that would make the Patriots. That's it. Leonard Williams. That's it. The rest is garbage.
