Some folks just don't know when things are bad. One of them is KickMe2018.Listen, I don't know what's going on in your life but it can't be that bad. There are hotlines you can call if you want help.
To paraphrase P. J. O'Rourke, giving $100M in cap space to the JETE front office is like giving whiskey and car keys to a teenager...Jet fans watching the injury news and speculate on trading their players to enhance tanking.
Cowboys DE carted off field. Trade Wilk or Sheldon?
C'mon Macc get it done. Dump Wilkerson or Sheldon for a draft pick and leave the team with over $100mil in cap space for next year.
A little known fact is all US citizens are all free to take possession of any island covered in bird droppings:The latest NY Post rumor: sources say that new "steward" of the NFL's NJ Jete, Christopher Wold (?wtf?....as in Wold B. Free?) Johnson, has discussed relocation of the Jete to Guam. Citing recent events showing that Guam is a "hotspot" and also, with a wink, half way to Hong Kong.
"We'll replace everyone and win a Super Bowl"
"watch out in 2018"
That is some f'ing strange kind of logic. Must be that swamp logic.
Meanwhile, the actual genius just held on to a backup QB even when he could have gotten Cleveland to cough up at least one 1st round pick and probably more in return. There's a lot to be said for getting that extra year (or maybe more) from a player you already have under contract, and then getting the compensatory pick after the season. Everyone else looking at Richardson also knows he's not under contract next year and franchising a D lineman is outrageously expensive so they won't offer much value in trade.Leonard Williams is a lock. Wilk is signed for a while, but can be traded. Sheldon is playing for a deal this year. I personally prefer Sheldon over Wilk, but they're both damn good.
If nothing is done, Sheldon leaves as a FA in 2018 and we get nothing in return.
So why wouldn't you trade one if the the opportunity presented itself? I know some of you have to see this is the smart move (not sure if Tuney can comprehend it though ).

But the bigger picture question is why the BLEEP do the JETE have so much of their draft capital and salary cap tied up in D linemen? Especially when they have NOTHING at QB! Don't they understand that even if you shut out your opponent, you still need to score to win a football game? Sitting around hoping for pick-6s and/or fumble recoveries is not a winning strategy.
This year, they draft a SAFETY and the crowd roars its approval. They would have been much better off taking a flyer on a guy like Kizer. And yes, they have taken a lot of flyers on guys like Gee-No Smith and Quackenbush and Petty, but the thing is, till one of them hits, you gotta keep taking flyers. Of course it helps if you hit on a 6th rounder who didn't even start for his college team, but still, you're not going to win drafting safeties and d-linemen unless you already have a foundation QB and the makings of a competent offense in place.
I think what the Texans are doing right now (big swing and big miss on Osweiler, pay someone to take him and take a flyer on Kizer) is the strategy the JETE should be following, instead of big bets on defense. There is a reason why BB hangs on to Jimmy G: you need to do whatever you need to do to have talent at QB. Eventually the Texans will hit, and if they don't, they have to keep trying. It helps that in general the Texans have had better success in the draft and are better at developing players than the JETE are. In other words, the JETE front office and coaching staff SUCK.Good post. Could be the basis for a decent discussion, but I'm running out the door.
Cliff notes: you take what's available. Trying to force things that aren't there only makes things worse.
Once they realize they have no cornerbacks they'll spend all of it to bring Revis back.To paraphrase P. J. O'Rourke, giving $100M in cap space to the JETE front office is like giving whiskey and car keys to a teenager...
It's not genius...it's almost 50 years of the kickme syndrome (it's akin to Stockholm syndrome but people from Sweden can't understand what Jete fans are saying so they won't let it be related).Genius, get rid of unproductive and/or expensive players to open up cap space and spots to fill with productive, affordable ones. The next part is what dooms you to failure. You need to pick the right players and have a coach capable of developing a team. You also need a franchise quarterback. I pretty sure the Jets will strike out. All your genius ideas are based on hoping they can fill spots with capable replacements. What's so genius about that?
You don't seem to understand the situation.
And for all the whining about the Jets just emptying their roster...
All wise moves no one with any common sense can really complain about. So yes I believe the team is actively rebuilding and accepting a losing season to get a top draft pick, but they're not making any moves that aren't beneficial to the short-term future (2018) of the team. It's genius I tell ya.
I still think the Jets should have used the draft to rebuild the offense (except for the QB) for 2018 in anticipation of getting their top pick QB then. Looking at their roster I only see about 3 or 4 players who'd I'd say has a 90% chance of being a vital part of their offense in three years. No weapons, bad OL. A rookie coming in there next year is signing his death warrant unless they rebuild to the extent that Indy rebuilt their defense this year. Otherwise it'll be a David Carr ruined forever scenario that would make top QBs at least think about staying in school.
One thing our resident troll KickMe2018 doesn't understand is you can't build a winning organization by tanking a season. It's not about assembling talent, it's about building a team (where have we heard that before?). That starts from the top with unwavering commitment to winning EVERY game. Once it seeps into organizational mentality that winning is expendable, the road to respectability gets filled with landmines.Agreed.
I learned a couple of important lessons in 2001 when Bledsoe got knocked out and the Pats played this sixth round pick at QB.
I was ready to throw in the towel and start looking forward to the next draft where the Pats could, hopefully, draft the difference maker that could get them over the top. With Bledsoe coming back healthy the next year, the Pats should be in good shape.
Of course, history shows that I was wrong to think that way.
First, Brady turned out to be so much better than anyone thought, so our season wasn't exactly doomed.
Second, and probably more importantly, I learned the value of a team having a culture of winning and expecting to win, and how that builds on itself.
Hoping to lose so that you can suddenly be good next year is a fool's errand. The same crappy teams draft high year after year, yet remain crappy.
It isn't the players, it is the culture and mentality, and that applies to the winners and the losers. You don't change the culture overnight, or just because you drafted the latest "can't miss" QB.
Look what BB is able to do with a cheating NFL* office that steals the Pats' picks, yet BB is still able to find talent.
The Pats have a culture of winning, and an expectation of winning. It seems obvious now, but wasn't so obvious before when the Pats were perennial losers.
