Jason LaCanfora: Pats really want Higgins "He's going to New England"

His mom went on social media “selfish bastards”. You know her son isn’t happy either with the tag.
Like I said, I don't think this is going to go well for them. It will feel like negotiating in bad faith to Higgins. They're keeping him from the open market yet again.

Bengals are just being greedy I mean they already have Ja'Marr Chase forever.

Would the Bungles take our Second Rounder in a Possible Trade for him or does it have to be a First??

Part of me almost just wants to scrap everyone in the receiver room not named Demario Douglas (maybe Boutte/Baker?) and start the room over.

I guess that just means I want to move off Bourne and Polk lol.
Assuming they have the right attitude, Pop and Boutte should be on the 2025 roster. They are fine at WR3-6

Everyone else is on probation and have OTAs, TC and preseason to demonstrate they can/want to play here.

Just because we have the most cap room, does not mean we should get into bidding wars for the "hottest FA" this year.
Especially NOT a WR (Higgins) I think facts & history have proven why.

If they want to break the bank for Garrett - I wouldn't be mad. Or, outbid for a LT like A. Jackson (if they don't LOVE a rookie).
But, for WR - do what the Pats have always succeeded at. Sign a serviceable FA that isn't top $$, and hasn't peaked yet.
- D. Johnson, M. Brown (guys that can move, make plays after catch)
And draft an underrated 2nd-4th rounder. My top pick right now (in the Higgins mold)...
- Savion Williams (reminds me of a faster, more agile Plaxico Burress or Brandon Marshall)

Then we have to hope Maye is poor man's Tom Brady for that to work.

With the cap going up, I bet Higgins and the Bengals come to some sort of agreement. Time to decide who is the best from the trade market.

Game theory . Higgins can say he will not sign the tag and will not play on tag. Despite that the Bengals do it, now Higgins does not sign till June, Bengals are cash and cap starved to sign new agents whilst not sure if Higgins will sign and play .Most likely out one, Bengals cave in and remove the tag.

Just ignore the noise . No need to trade assets for Higgins. He will not get tagged or his tag will get removed.
They'd have to do it quickly as Burrow is putting pressure on them to improve the team. I think the Bengals will pay him enough to get him to stay.

The team shouldn't move on from Polk. For now, he should be expected to be our #6 WR. The coaches should have an opportunity to see what they can get out of him. Even a 5th WR is a roster spot that could be valuable.

The coaches should be able to a lot with the four kids (5 if we include Jackson) and the two new acquisitions. (along with Henry, Gibson and our #2 TE)
I do agree in reality. There's really no need to move off of Polk right now given the investment and the low cap #.

I really hope the Pats don't overpay for Higgins!
Don't try to prove something by "setting the market" for WR's! He doesn't want to leave CIN, so it's going to be a pure $$ proposition for him. Not going to a rebuilding team, when CIN could be knocking on the door again.

If that's the body type you want, take a chance on Ayomanor or Higgins or Harris in the 2nd/3rd round.
Best of all - Savion Williams!
I don't think we are going to get him.. Bengals announcement on working to resign him pretty much put cold water on the notion.

Have to make a decision by 4pm EST today I've heard on Higgins.

It will be funny if they sign Higgins only to realize now they can’t pay Chase and he said ends up in NE instead in 2026

Higgins played on the tag last year and seemed to be ok with it. Worst case tag him again and trade if they can’t get a deal done. As an aside I don’t see Bengals fans setting the seats on fire if Gesicki walks.

We will know soon enough. The franchise tag can be placed upon players starting today. It would cost Cincy 26.2 million to put it on Higgins.

Intrigued.

I think they have to keep Higgins well under $30 million a year. Chase will want more than Jefferson. $40 million? I would not be surprised. I think the Pats can over well over $30 million Tee if they want. The franchise tag for Higgins is $26 million. This may work out as a tag and trade.

That salary and a second is a lot to give up.

There is a chance they won't sign Chase long term whether they keep Higgins or not. Chase is going to command like $40 million a year. The Bengals are cheap and they already paid Burrow. They may just try to keep Chase on the fifth year option and then franchise him next year and in 2027.

The problem is whether Chase will just take that or force a trade under that scenario.

Not sure where you heard that. I understand they have 2 weeks to decide, beginning today.
