Jason LaCanfora: Pats really want Higgins "He's going to New England"

We may end up with Higgins
But this article is BS
Vrabel’s coaching hire leaks were non existent
We did not even know for weeks that certain people were already interviewed
Somehow the Patriots now are doing an about face and talking like canaries

Me and George Pickens are joined at the hips don't forget it.

Let me make this clear: HC Mike Vrabel is getting Tee Higgins for our N.E. Patriots.
I just don't buy it, Vrabel seems to dislike recurring soft tissue injuries and that is what Tee is known for. He has had at 6 HS injuries in 5 seasons and once it happens people tend to be more susceptible to them, so I am not convinced that Vrabel does this.

I'd really like to see us with Higgins before the draft. We'd have more focus on other positions of need.

Higgins was the #1 his first year before Chase came and he did fine. He isn't an elite #1, but he is definitely a great receiver. 67/908/6 TD's with a first year Burrow only playing 10 games because they had one of the worst OL's I've seen in a long time.

I do not think he'll be the savior by himself, he'll need to be paired with someone as good or better, but even him alone is a huge upgrade. Very clutch receiver.
My only issue with Higgins is that we will probably give him market resetting money for a guy who is a #1 but is not elite who also has injury issues.

That's where I'm at with free agency in general. I don't want a repeat of last year where we're so desperate for help at certain positions that we pretty much script our draft like it seems we did (QB in round 1, WR in round 2, OT in round 3 - it felt like they did that). I'd like to have at least passable options at all or most spots so we can play the draft board better

X receiver is one of those tough spots though where "passable starters" don't even typically make it to free agency. Like outside of Higgins I don't even see a single starting caliber X receiver in free agency.

I say rebuild the whole offense like 2007.
Sign Higgins, Diggs, trade for Samuel.
We also had Matt Light, Logan Mankins, Dan Koppen, Stephen Neal, and Nick Kaczur on the offensive line. It would be nice to have even just one starter on the 2025 team who could be comparable to his 2007 counterpart.

Vrabel can talk about how he worked with Brown and McD can talk about working with Moss. I feel like they can sell him on the vision. If he believes in Maye and NE is another story.
Although nothing surprises me, one of those rare exceptions would be that Higgins doesn't at least meet with Vrabel (and possibly McDaniels too) to hear them out. As for Maye, I wouldn't be surprised if he talks with Higgins as well. And even if Maye doesn't, I suspect that unless he's an idiot, Higgins has caught a glimpse of what Maye can do throwing the football to anywhere on the field. And, with Vrabel assuring him that the OL will be addressed properly and more talent added both on Offense and Defense, combined with them paying Higgins well and that he'd be their #1 WR, I like their chances of landing him if he doesn't stay with Cincy (which I just can't see them affording him and Chase, while addressing other area's of the Team).

They didn’t “rebuild the whole offense” in 2007. They signed 3 starters on offense and one starter on defense (Adalius Thomas). The other 18 starters on offense and defense were holdovers from the prior years roster. You’re just making it out to be way more transformative than it actually was because the 3 starters on offense were all at the same position (WR) and Moss/Weller were such home runs. And they didn’t even spend a lot of resources on it - Moss was acquired for a mid round pick and a 1 year deal, Stallworth was a 1 year deal. Weller for a modest contract and traded for a 2nd. AD got a big deal. But in the grand scheme of things, that was tinkering with an already great roster.

We’re not in that spot at all. Our whole team sucks. You can’t just pour that much resources into one position only and call it “rebuilt”.

Exactly. The 2006 Patriots had issues, but they weren't fielding possibly the worst roster in the NFL. They just went big and all in like teams who are contenders tend to do

We are in that period of time where teams strategically put out info, whether it's true, false, or a mix is to be seen...

Let's sign them too

At what price will you question this? I like the guy but will not go more than 20M. He is always injured.

Unfortunately a $20M AAV free agent offer to Higgins wouldn't even generate a return call from his agent

He never had credibility, it was a running joke around here that he gets things wrong. He’s not Volin — he definitely tries — but Schefter or Rapaport he ain’t.
Nobody is a more wronga the Jason lacafora

When does the journalist get here.
