Jason LaCanfora: Pats really want Higgins "He's going to New England"

Yep. I've been saying that on here in a multitude of ways. Including: Even if they tag Higgins, he'll be pissed if he doesn't get a new contract from the Bengals. And even if he does and even if Burrow restructures his deal, they are going to loose whatever other talented players that they may have and be unable to sign any young and impactful FA's. They will have way too much money tied up in just 3 players (Burrow, Higgins, and then Chase). They can theoretically keep all three, but the damage that it'll do to the rest of the team will be substantial.
As things stand right now, and assuming they franchise Higgins.... Burrow's number is in the mid-40's, and each of those 2 receivers will be in the 20's next year.

That is not even remotely an out-of-the-ordinary situation for the top 3 players on many NFL teams - especially teams who don't have QBs on rookie contracts.

Yeah, that ties into it - they already used the tag and didn't get anywhere with a new deal, now they're doing it again. The core problem, though, is proving that they don't even want to keep him this year and are simply holding him temporarily to get a draft pick.
Which, if that's what they're doing, is some shady stuff. I hope is agent is smart enough to tell him that he should file a petition with the NFL ASAP so that they can't pull that on him. If I was his agent that's what I would do.

As far as I understand it, they haven't actually even applied the tag yet - it's just been reported that they intend to do so. We'll see.

As you probably know, there are two camps on here. Those that hope he isn't tagged and becomes a FA so that we can sign him, and those that don't want us to sign him even if he's a FA. One thing I do know: Imho our #1 FA Priority should be Alaric Jackson at LT. He'd have that position locked down for possibly several years which would allow us to draft anything but an OT in the 1st Round. After Jackson, I'd go for Josh Sweat, Milton Williams, and Jevon Holland. Now, if they get Jackson, would I have a problem with getting Tee Higgins? No. They can get Jackson, Higgins, and the other players that I just mentioned and probably others in FA. But again, for me it's getting Jackson. He'd make the rest of FA and the Draft a lot easier for us. Ronnie Stanley would be a definite upgrade at LT, but he'd be a 3 year rental at best (and we'd better have his replacement in place before those 3 years come about).

No arguments here. There are actually a couple decent LT options in free agency for once which is pretty rare, so that needs to be priority #1 by a mile. If they actually meaningfully fix up their OL and DL in free agency then that’ll go a long way and puts them in a good spot with turning the team around.

If we get the players in FA that I mentioned and nail the Draft, and they continue to make sound future FA and Draft decisions (along with sound coaching and player development), this team could find its way back into being a serious threat to the rest of the NFL in 2 to no more than 3 years (and be noticeably improved this coming season).

I have a feeling they won't tag him. By tagging him, it would cut their available money by more than half. The Bengals also need to sign their best defensive player in Hendrickson.

Welcome to NE Tee!

Come home Tee.

FWIW, Phil Perry said he has been hearing around the league that most people don't believe the Bengals will end up tagging Higgins. He said it wasn't coming from anyone in Cincy, but they were people who could be in the know.

It could be a threat through the media to try to get Higgins to the table. But then they can deny that it was them.

Right, but I think that’s what makes Higgins likely to agree to a mega deal with the Bengals first.
Perry pitch the idea of us trading Gonzo for tee Higgins.. absolutely not! We have just 2 home grown all pro players on the entire roster. I love the idea of tee... coming here.. unless something changes he's staying in the natti.. especially with both he and chase having the same agent now.

Reported Burrow is tweaking is contract to allow bengals to retain both he and Higgins.. I say there's an even greater chance now especially with chase and Higgins having the same agents.

If they want to destroy their team and not have a good defense and be a one and done in the playoffs every year because most of their cap is spent on 3 players, then so be it.

Agreed. They have 2 elite rushers on defense.. they are going to need to sign one I say Hubbard gets the extension. Even with Burrow adjusting his contract it's going to be hard for them to give both guys deals. Someone is going to be unhappy.

Bengals could be playing possum announcing they Wil tag him with FA around the corner.. I'd love to have tee.. but we need to get this OL situation fixed ASAP or maye day won't have time to get to tree top catch Higgins.

A number 1 WR and taking a tackles like Simmons at 21 using the extra third to move backup for top player left on your board yes,
This is if Hunter and Carter are off the Board at 4.
If Wolf pulled that trade I’d like to see the follow up video of Vrabel suplexing him through the table

That would be idiotic. I'd rather have a lock down CB than a WR who could be taken out.

Absolutely.. asinine.. for us to ever consider trading him! Gonzo Will have a new contract by next season minimum.. he's an all pro, and the best CB in the game IMO.. guy has literally no pass rush help and still locks up WRs.

Just plain stupid

Not buying that Defense wins Championships. Joe Burrow can go cook eggs.
