I've Seen Enough of Drake Maye...

Why can't we sign a waived player? It's done all over the league
They can absolutely re-sign someone they waived, what the OP said is that they can't put in a waiver claim on someone they waived.

We waived him yesterday, why would he claim him off of waivers? You can’t claim a guy that would were the team who waived.
You can’t claim a waiver player to the practice squad.

Fwiw i just listened to the guys on patriots press pass believe they will announce it today
If anything else, it will give us a window into the seriousness of Briskets shoulder injury... If he's named the starter, then its a non issue... if he's not, then maybe its on the more serious side.

He is only 21 so I don't see why a slower learning curve is a bad thing. It would be delaying some things, as you note, while he gets his feet wet, has an off-season to work out and train, and build his confidence that comes with increased familiarity. Why does waiting until Maye is 22 with more confidence and refinement a bad thing?
Because you push his career back a year and then he shows up next year with no experience. You can’t learn by watching what you learn by doing.

waived players have to go thru the, wait for it, lol, the waiver wire first

I think he would build more confidence and learn faster by actually playing and winning games. Additionally, free agents would get a good look at his talents on display and it would make NE a more attractive destination for them, making it easier to build around Maye sooner with better pieces.
Could be. But he could go backwards too. Risky.

I firmly believe Brissett is more hurt than he's letting on.. shoulders are no joke. Brissett is AVPs binkie.. I understand he's here just to keep the sear warm for drake.. but there's no excitement or anything that's going to wow you. He is what he is.
Once shoulders go bad, they do all sorts of weird stuff when you least expect it. I've got one of those. I don't know what the darn thing will do. It rattles and pops and slides in and out of joint, gets stuck. What fun. Surgery on your shoulder is like surgery on your back: a complete crapshoot, so I just live with it, but I don't have to given angry fat guys the slip then throw a ball 40 yards. I just sit here in the old Barcalounger and criticize those who do.

Probably the Zapster will slide through wavers like poop through a goose. The caterwauling should be fun if they run him out there again, but that might be the right thing, given the O-line's incompetence. Such is life post-dynasty, I guess.

Bread and circus.

You can, once he clears waivers. He's a free agent at that point.
Depends. If they're a vested veteran they don't go through waivers. But otherwise yes.

Just to clarify, Zappe is not a vested veteran and is subject to waiver wire claims

If a player is 4 or more accrued seasons they are released and immediately go to FA.
If a player is under 4 they are waived and go onto the waiver wire. Once all claims have been made and awarded they are FA and can be signed to practice squads.

Why would he panic? How would what he does under “panic” change without playing? The only way to improve footwork in a game is to do it in a game. And his footwork is fine.
You seem to be grasping at straws to find a reason to have him waste part of his career holding a clipboard.
He has had moments of panic his preseason. Not grasping at straws just a little more cautious than you are with the potential franchise QB. I want him to start week 5, but the 1st 4 weeks are pretty tough defenses and I think he needs to see those exotic defenses vs this offense.

It’s not that, it’s why even say I’ll know Monday, but you might not. Why say mate is the second best QB, say is a straight out competition, say mate outplayed him? He’s talking himself into a corner.
I took it as him saying he has outplayed him in the preseason games, but is still 2nd when you look at everything(handling the ball from under center, pocket drifting, etc...). He really needs to stop saying things.

I thought JT was overly critical of his footwork. Sure, he has work to do in that area, but he focused on it way too much. I think Kurt Warners review was more insightful:

I agree that he was very critical but he was right in the sense that it's a problem, imo

I agree. My dad had both rotators done and he's never been the same. So I definitely understand what you're saying. Brissett probably will get treatment as NFL players get grade A treatment while playing. I've said personally I can see zap back here. It's been was 24 hours? So he's probably cleared waivers. Whenever they practice next if the staff sees Brissetts throws off or short or errant than I think it's best to short term IR him. Milton would be the back up to Drake then if the team did that zap would definitely be back here as an option.

I thought JT's take on his footwork was very informative. But a quick look at some college tape doesn't show Drake "moving to trouble" nearly as consistently as he did last game. Possible reasons?
Coaches really emphasizing climbing the pocket?
Drake doesn't trust the tackles to not get beat quickly outside?
Whatever it is, I don't believe it's some fatal, ingrained flaw in his game. They'll sort it out.
