I've Seen Enough of Drake Maye...

Are you sure it's wise to throw him to the wolves with the current state of the OL? Three of the Pats first four games are away to the Bengals, Jets and 49ers. I'm a Maye believer, but that's a pass rushing baptism of fire.
If the OL is really so bad then he’s going to see the field quickly anyway because big slow Brissett is going to get hurt himself.

If they’re not as bad as people fear then Brissett won’t get hurt, in which case Maye should have been out there from the start.

JT O'Sullivan with his QB school breakdown of Maye against the skins...whoever they are now. When I was watching the game I was mentioning the multi hitching into trouble. When Mayo said Drake is out played JB, I took that as in the games he has outplayed him but he is the 2nd best because of some of the issues that are pointed out in this clip.

This clip is 38 minutes or so and absolutely display just how much natura ability Drake has. I do not think he should start week 1, I still think that he falls into some questionable habits that he had at UNC

Mayo says all sorts of things, usually followed up, often in the same sentence, with a contradictory remark. So what he says means little. At least when Bill had nothing to say, he said nothing, or snorted.
Mayo says things jokingly with the media at times.. he's a very cerebral and intelligent man. When he's serious you can tell. As his tenure goes on he will learn how to differentiate.

I firmly believe Brissett is more hurt than he's letting on.. shoulders are no joke. Brissett is AVPs binkie.. I understand he's here just to keep the sear warm for drake.. but there's no excitement or anything that's going to wow you. He is what he is.

How would you expect him to break habits if he isn’t playing?

ty for posting this

The Pats should sit Maye until the OL is somewhat stable, but lets not miss the fact that the Pats just stumbled onto one of the 10 best pure QB prospects ever to hit the NFL.

If we weren’t coming off the Tom Brady experience, this town would be going nuts right now, in awe of the good fortune of their local football team…

wait, what? care to shed some light on this?
I was being overly dramatic, when's the last time he saw the field and have you've heard anything about him in a while?

Yeah, lost in the “when do they start him” debate is how good he actually is/looks. He has everything. Fast processing speed, a rocket arm, good touch, prototypical size, leadership and charisma, pocket presence/ability to move inside the pocket, athletic talent and rushing ability, escapability/playmaking ability when the scheduled play breaks down and can just go make something happen, and an IQ high enough to tell him when it’s not worth it. AND he’s only 21?

The only iffy things in the draft were his footwork and the random bad pass. It seems like the coaches have already MASSIVELY improved his footwork, and while the random bad pass still seems to be there, it’s not a huge deal and probably gets cleaned up over time. The sky’s the limit for him IMO… Pats struck gold and can compete for titles with him if they build it right

I should have put in that I want him to start by week 5. I think film study over the 1st month would be beneficial because he will be able to see more exotic defenses and be able to pick JB's brain about doing something in a certain situation. You are right about him learning best by playing. I think the best learning environment is not Trey Hendrickson breathing down your neck.

Without feeling the need to disparage Mac, seeing the pigskin cannon down the field was heartwarming.

lol... and no i haven't heard anything about strange in awhile, thought for a second there was some news i had missed

I think that would be the best learning environment. It’s football. Talking to the guy playing doesn’t come close to experiencing it.
He can do just as much film study as a starter as he can sitting on the bench, but the film resonates when you are doing instead of watching.
He’s going to hit a lot of times in his career. A few more isn’t going to break him.

But when a person is panic they will revert back to what is comfortable, so if the improved footwork is not engrained then him playing won't be of any benefit. He does tend to drift into trouble and our OL is going to be bad enough that we don't need the QB running into pressure.

When will they announce the starter? Last i heard was early this week, did that change?

Why would he panic? How would what he does under “panic” change without playing? The only way to improve footwork in a game is to do it in a game. And his footwork is fine.
You seem to be grasping at straws to find a reason to have him waste part of his career holding a clipboard.

Mayo said they would Monday, but we might not know Monday. He is not handling this very well.

just not fast enough for you? A player gets injured on Sunday and the coach must tell you by Tuesday night, the night of the cutdown?

I thought JT was overly critical of his footwork. Sure, he has work to do in that area, but he focused on it way too much. I think Kurt Warners review was more insightful:
