Steve Belichick came from classic football country -- Western Pennsylvania and Eastern Ohio. He was the youngest of five children born to Ivan (known as John) and Mary Barkovic Bilicic. Yes, the name is Croatian and it was Anglicized, not at Ellis Island as so many others were, but by a first grade teacher in Monessen, Pa., where all the Belichick children were born. It was an Old World existence.

This is interesting, but is nothing new to us who are familiar with him and his family in the Western Pennsylvania/Eastern Ohio area.

He still has family in the Youngstown (OH) area where my family lives, and recently donated a substantial amount to their local high school football program in Struthers, where my dad grew up and went to high school, to purchase new equipment. The majority of the family in the area still pronounces their name "Bil-i-cic," which is obviously different than what we know him as.

Does anybody have the clip of the odd-sounding guy saying "Belichick, Billichick, Belichick"? I don't know where to find it, but I've been looking for years. I'm not even sure who it is, but they played it alot a while back on the local radio shows. It's comical, and I'm afraid I'll never hear it again.

Ive been looking for a clip or a sound byte for you, came across his appearance on the Letterman show. Russo is definitely an odd duck, but love how he puts it to Letterman.
