Johnson would have to be on board but I’m sure Salah and Douglas had no objections.

Once McMilfson floundered it was Johnson's idea to sign a marquee veteran QB. Of course, they could've stuck with Mike Caucasian who was showing signs of progress and was liked by teammates, building around him instead. That might have been the wiser choice since Rodgers will be a pricey, short-term VERY high-stakes rental. But Woody never has been keen on team building, just splashy moves to stoke fan hopes and compete with the Giants for space on the Post's back page.

Why the Jete didn't instead pursue Lamar Jackson is unclear. I suspect they figured (A) they just couldn't get him or (B) didn't want to run that style of offense, since they still seem to believe Punky eventually will get his act together.

But now with Caucasian gone, the Jete are royally screwed if Rodgers mails it in, gets hurt or doesn't deliver a boatload of wins this coming season then retires.

Do people really think Rodgers is going to take a huge pay cut? My guess is he will not give up a dime and salary will be converted into bonuses to bring down his 2023 cap hit.

I doubt there'll be much of a pay cut, if any.

Though if his goal is really to win a couple more rings... the amount he'd make by doing that in NY would be well worth it.

I'm just glad to hear he's motivated to help build a winner now while also saying he'll be around this summer to work with the guys. Dude really seems motivated.

Who can blame him though? He spent decades with Green Bay. Hardly a historic franchise like the Jets. He must be loving life now.

So ... "being around" in the summer means he's motivated? Oh, wait ...

Well, hell, if he wins ONE ring he might as well hang around for TWO. Right? It's a Discount Double Dork Dynasty!

Well if we flounder to a 7-10/8-9 record again and limp into 2024 with only Billy's quest to pass the hated Shula as something to which we should look forward, then for the sake of the T-E-A-M (a concept which Billy has forgotten or ignored) he needs to be Fired before that's allowed to happen.
Do you specialize in reading moronic minds? You seem to have quite the channel to BB there...

You stand a better chance of getting laid three times before your Jete win three Lombardis with Rodgers.

Here, this should increase odds of at least one happening:

Mike White completely sucked.

His QB rating (75.7) would rank him 32nd in the NFL among qualifying quarterbacks.

The only guy below him? Zach Wilson (77.2)

The Jets had the worst quarterback situation in the league last year. Rodgers is objectively a massive upgrade.
Rodgers was 21st in DVOA and 27th in QBR last year -- better than Mac was but not better than Mike White.

If the Patriots had made this trade the people that are praising the jets would be blasting the Patriots. This trade is not for Ard in his prime, this is the QB that the GB Packers have given up on and have seen enough. the same Arod that mailed it in last year. He is not only on the downside of his career, but he is a douchebag to boot. I am so glad the Pats didn't make this trade. Arod will not win another championship especially now that he is playing in the AFC.

If his goal was winning a couple more rings, he would be in San Francisco right now. The 49ers would be his best shot at winning a Super Bowl. Much better team. Less competition in the NFC.

And anyone who thinks the Jets are more of a historic franchise than the Packers must be a Jets fan or a troll.

And I’ll believe Rodgers is motivated when I see it. I think if Brady and Watts didn’t retire this year, he might have retired himself.

Eventually you pay the piper to some extent but a lot of it happens organically to some extent. You sign a big name QB to big money and keep kicking the can down the road until that QB ages out or leaves then you reset the roster with a young cheap QB and jettison off some of your other high priced guys. If a team really wants to keep a player they will find a way to do it. There aren't really many players teams truly wanted to keep at a specific salary that they just couldn't keep because of the cap. "Cap casualties" are usually guys that wouldn't take a pay cut or guys who a team deemed as overpaid based on their level of production. My whole thing with the cap is there are so many ways to maneuver around it for so long that while you have a good QB in his prime the cap really isn't a factor. It is only a factor when you move on from that QB and at that point you just slash down the roster and start the rebuilding with young cheap guys. The amount of time teams can kick the can gets longer and longer with the way the cap keeps increasing.
The cap is crap. As you mentioned, there are plenty of ways to move money around as we've seen with other teams.

Instead, the Pats have dumped top talent, mostly on offense, and replaced them with nothing or next to nothing. And who's the fall guy for those stupid/cheap moves? The QB.

I think it will be a Favre Jets 2.0 season. Average play, average numbers, and a few hissy fits with the media and then he rides off into the sunset or tries to force his way to som other NFC North team for one last chance to embarrass himself.
I hope Rodgers isn't Favre 2.0. Favre's Jets knocked the Pats out of the playoffs in 2009 with a win in Foxboro.

I think that’s what happened.

Did you say this about Tampa in 2020?
Why would he? Brady clearly wasn't in decline. He was fresh off a SB win in 2018 and a 12-4 record in 2019 that would have been 13-3 with the top seed if not for the blown call vs KC. Brady then went on to win another SB and come within a dumb coaching decision the next season of going to another.

Aaron Rodgers is way overrated and one weird dude. A perfect fit for the Jets.

After reading through the some of the posts on this thread, I can't help but think that our current team aggravates the **** out of some "fans". I can certainly try to understand why and can empathize with those who might feel this way. However if this team and its management sucks so bad why then why chase the aggravation? Perhaps golf might be a better choice on Sundays as long as you don't put too many balls in the woods or the water. Or if it's too cold to play golf then perhaps banging your head against the wall if you get bored might be a better choice.

Seriously though, has anyone ever thought that A Rod actually belongs on the Jet's? That A-Hole is a perfect fit for Jets! Consider these possibilities: He struggles and is replaced by Wilson and they have a losing season or the deal with the devil is successful and they win the SB but have to wait another 55 Years for the next one. Either possibility might or might not happen but it does keep happy thoughts alive while we wait for the Pat's to rebuild. . .
What makes you think that fans who criticize the team are not fans but you are? Maybe it's the blind followers like you that are the reason the team is in decline. And whatever you do don't play golf. I can tell that you don't have the stomach for that game.

The Pats are in year 4 of the rebuild and "fans" like you think that we just need to give Bill a couple more years. The truth is that he's never won squat without Brady, build or rebuild. The proof is right in front of your eyes if you look and the sample size is getting larger each year.

But hey, let's not criticize the Pats for getting rid of so much talent and seeing that talent go on to help other teams get rings. After all, fans can have the glory of seeing their HC chase a meaningless record with another poor season.

They are doing cartwheels at ESPN...
