I agree he is past his prime and the Jets are over extending themselves here but we all know why they are doing it. It is a last ditch effort for Joe Douglas and Robert Salah to keep their jobs. Joe Douglas hasn't been a terrible GM the last couple years but whiffing that badly at QB has basically made this a make or break year. At this point it really is the only thing he can do with the position he put himself in at QB.
I agree the front office is making a short term move to hide their disastrous miss on Milfson, and will point out they're doing so with the full support of their elderly and very frustrated owner, who certainly will fire the GM and HC if this move doesn't work out well for them.

Is this the first time a Third place Team is hosting the SB Champs and runner up?? I know anything can happen but that's still very Tough.

This is a REALLY tough schedule that would be daunting to the 2007 roster. There will be a LOT of "blood on the streets" in the AFCE. It will be a season where there will be a LOT of close games and the team who makes the fewest mistakes and the most timely plays will win those tough games.

This is NOT the year to judge this team and players. NEXT year will be. I actually don't give a crap about how many wins or losses we have THIS season. What I WILL be watching and dare I say judging will be this.

1. Is the real Mac the 2021 version, or the 2022. He needs to show marked improvement in his pocket presence, decision making and elusiveness.

2. The draft picks from 2022 show progression. That means guys like Strange, Thornton and Jack Jones actually HAVE a second year jump. Last year Strange was OK, Thornton was a no show (except for one game) and Jack far exceeded expectations We also have to see if Marcus J is used more and I'll be thrilled if just ONE of the 2 RB's proves useful

3. I want to have just ONE of the myriad group of assorted OT's we have on the roster emerges into a competent starting OT in this league

4, I want to see at least 4 players we pick on Thursday show some potential and play as starters or in a positional rotation

5. I want to see fewer penalties and mental errors

6. I want to see that we regain some coaching stability and clear direction.

I see all that and I'll know the team is heading in the right direction regardless of what their record is in 2023. Then AFTER another draft and what should be an active FA period with all the cap room, the wins and loses will matter. It will be time to judge if Bill still has a fast ball.

Of course wins and losses ALWAYS matter. But it takes time to build the kind of team that can win in this league consistently. There are SIX teams (on paper) have so called "championship rosters" Teams that have "top 10" QB's....and that is just in OUR conference, Allen, Rodgers, Mahomes, Burrows, Herbert, Watson, not to mention Russell Wilson.

That means a LOT of tough competition against good opponents to get through. Judge this 2023 version on how they respond to this challenge. Do they CONSISTENTLY compete for 4 quarters? Do they get better as the season goes on? Are they the team that makes the mistakes or avoids them? etc. Bottom line.....to paraphrase the Gladiator...."we SHALL be entertained."

I think maybe we should just wait until this time next year when the new Jerod Mayo led team picks first in the draft. Just turn the TV off starting now.

Man, these guys are brutal.
Nah, it won't be better next year or ever.

Their shtick is to on the Patriots, no matter what they do, yet still call themselves Patriots fans.

It's a shtick that's been around for a very long time, psychiatrists make careers out of this stuff.

I am waiting for the full implosion around thanksgiving when Rodgers is under performing and the team is 4-6 and they bench/deactivate him to avoid giving a first instead of a 2nd and effectively kill the season.

Sorry, I meant that since the season is over, and they have no shot at winning so we might as well just wait until the '24 draft.

I agree. My $0.02: The MP/JG experiment cost us a year of development on the offensive side of the ball. I thought we'd be a few picks away from being a contender this season, but instead feel we are a year behind that.

Was waiting for it .... they have had better ....
REJOICE!!!!!

... just forget about that other QB, you know, the one we drafted at 2nd overall less than two years ago... he uh, doesn't exist....

NOW we have a QB!! FINALLY!!!!

... probably for like, one year... and then we won't have one anymore... again... and won't have a 1st round pick either...

but REJOICE!!!!!!!!

Tua may only be better because of the players around him. He wasn't better than Jones in Jones' rookie season in 2021. Jones took a major step backwards when he was given a monsterous coaching situation and horrible OT tackle play and Tua took a major step forward with better coaching and the addition of Hill and an improved o-line.

Although Jones doesn't have a true #1, he should close that gap this year.
Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle might be the best WR duo in the NFL.

Here's their competition:

A.J. Brown and DeVonte Smith
Ja'Marr Chase and Tee Higgins
Deebo Samuel and Brandon Aiyuk
D.K. Metcalf and Tyler Lockett
Stefon Diggs and Gabe Davis
Keenan Allen and Mike Williams
Mike Evans and Chris Godwin

And how far down this list do you have to go until you get to JuJu and Parker? Seem like there's still quite a ways to go.

But the play was pretty good, wasn't it, Mrs. Lincoln?

A 39 year old, declining head case going to a dumpster fire of an organization…can’t wait to watch it implode.
Did you say this about Tampa in 2020?

craw stop you're killing me funny but true.

Don't doubt you are right on this, BUT in retrospect a few years down the road, it will seem like a blip, IF and only if BOB turns out to be the right guy.

And your take is based off what? A good Draft? Hopefully.
Miami is what it is. They have 4 picks this year. The Pats have 11. So yeah, I can guarantee we'll have a better team after the draft. Miami, not so much.
I don't think my reply was to your post but go look at their schedule. Not sure they'll be better than the Pats. They are one big hit on Tua being a sub .500 team.
And Rodgers has been on decline the past 2 years. He'll be 40 in December. His better days are behind him. So there's that to look forward to. The Jets also have only 4 or 5 picks this year. They will not improve all that much.
You also underestimate us after getting a real OL coach and an OC. This team WILL be better and we lost some heartbreakers last year. Should have been a playoff team. Some choke jobs (GB, Minny and we all know what happened in Vegas) and poor coaching didn't help though.

So you're hoping Tua get concussed because that the only way we are beating Miami yeah I get it. Side note they got Jalen Ramsey who's a really good CB to help that Defense they have a win now Team.

The change may reinvigorate Rodgers who checked out on the 2022 season because he clearly didn't believe in the team (some - not me - may compare it to Brady in 2019). The Jets defense was really good last season, and they have some nice pieces on offense, they just eventually collapsed under the weight of their inept quarterback play. Rodgers changes that scenario completely. They could contend for the division but they should at least make it into the playoffs.

I agree, in a vacuum... But I want to see what happens after the Jete lose a game - not to us, of course: Bye bye to your precious "winning" streak vs the Jete, Billy - to a team they should've beaten; then we'll see where everyone's heads are down in the swamp...

@captain stone that's a real possibility

Well if we flounder to a 7-10/8-9 record again and limp into 2024 with only Billy's quest to pass the hated Shula as something to which we should look forward, then for the sake of the T-E-A-M (a concept which Billy has forgotten or ignored) he needs to be Fired before that's allowed to happen.

I’m not hoping for anything. Don’t put words in my mouth I didn’t say. Facts are facts. Have you been paying attention to Tua the past couple of years? These serious (his weren’t the minor kind) type of concussion things don’t really get better by getting hit every week. Even if he is healthy he’s no Joe Burrow or Herbert or even a top 10 of AFC QB’s.
