Is this the end of a potential Chiefs dynasty?

Dynasty talk happens with pretty much every team that wins the SB, especially ones with young qbs. Burrow wins this year, there will be talk of a Bengals dynasty. Rams... maybe with McVay, but they've pretty much mortgaged their future and have an older qb.

It's a common theme, and chiefs are headed towards a downward spiral.

So, to answer the question, yes, this is the end of a potential chiefs dynasty. There really wasn't much potential to begin with.
Bengals dynasty just sounds wrong. Like honest politician.

Exactly.

But.... but..... "with Burrow (Mahomes) and Chase (Hill) they will have a core group in place for a long time."

That will be the narrative.

People keep getting hung up on QB salaries but you need a QB worthy of big money to make a real playoff run. Josh Allen, Matt Stafford, Mahomes, and Burrow who in another year will make more than Mahomes. The days of having a QB who wouldn't push for top dollar are over so the fanbase is going to need to be prepared to pay Mac $50 mill a year if we are lucky enough to have him play like a high end QB.
Which, if true, means the days of dynasties are over. Without someone willing to work with the team the way Brady did rather than always pushing for top dollar, there's no chance.

Is it possible to find a super model girlfriend worth hundreds of millions for Mac?

Chiefs dynasty what?? Did you all forget the Packers dynasty?

At this point, KC's path to a dynasty would be similar to that of the Niners, a lot of titles spread out over an extended period of time.

Maybe more likely, given the increasing competitiveness of the AFC, they wind up a Gibbs-era Washington near-dynasty.

Or maybe Mahomes' career path follows the Steve Young/Brett Favre model, undeniably great, almost there every year, but just missing.

That's why you play the games.

Reid has been to nine conference championship games and has one title to show for it. I don’t think he gets mentioned enough just how hard it will be for Mahomes to win a lot of titles with Reid as head coach. And in fairness I am not blaming Reid at all for what happened on Sunday as that was all Mahomes but still the statistics are really stark when it comes to Reid in big playoff games. It also doesn’t help that they are paying Mahomes a half billion and it appears he may be fragile mentally when he begins to make mistakes in a game. We pretty much all that all season and it began last year in the Super Bowl.

The way the NFL is set up nowadays with the rule changes that make it easier for quarterbacks and the salary cap is going to lead to ALOT more "good" quarterbacks and alot more parity. I think it's going to be hard to have a dynasty.

Pats were able to because Brady is the GOAT and also because he took low deals so the pats could afford more guys. Wait until mahomes contract hits 45million.

Also in the early 00's 27 tds was an MVP caliber season. Now 27 tds is just what you expect from ok-good qbs

Can I just say that several times during the day I think about Mahomes collapse and it makes me giggle non-stop. It is the gift that keeps on giving. ChiefsPlanet is pure gold and will be for the next 6 months. Thank you Cincy, thank you Joe Burrow. LOL

I still can’t wrap my head around it. The disparity between the two halves. The only logical theory is the final play of the first half legitimately broke Mahomes psychologically.

Some Chiefs fans believe he threw the game. That is how BAD he played. I have never seen anything like it from a QB I consider unique and elite. My reasons for his regression this year are as follows:

1) Tampa SB. That loss shook him. His tendencies were used against him and he didn't have an answer except to keep compounding the mistakes with off platform throws and scrambling backwards for 100 yards.
2) His big contract. I think he is feeling the pressure of the half billion contract and that he needs to be THE guy to live up to that massive deal.
3) His family - between his girlfriend, brother and mother - the guy is surrounded by HUGE tools/distractions. Even Chiefs fans want him to dump his GF. It's bad.

His tendencies were what lead him to fall as far as he did in the draft. He's a very gifted athlete with some big flaws in his game that are getting exposed in the playoffs. Again, he is good, but overrated
As much as the game has changed the QBs that win titles are the ones whose primary strength is reading defenses well, pre and post snap and delivering the ball with accuracy quickly to all parts of the field. For all the hoopla Allen, Mahomes and Jackson have one title between them.
If Mahomes is ever going to live up to the hype he is going to have to stop playing so much hero ball.
The ability to beat a defense with your legs is a special feature, not the main cut.

They might not get back there again because of these two.

Reid gets too arrogant and refuses to run the ball.

Mahomes lacks poise and crumbles when a defense adjusts to what he's doing.

No, these are weird excuses. If these are true, it says something about his mental toughness.

Thank you. Mahomes has serious flaws in his game.

He relies too much Kelce and Hill getting wide open. Mahomes is not asked to CONSISTENTLY read and disect defenses, and make tight window throws based on timing, anticipation, and reading the defense. (This is why some people still say Deshaun Watson is better.)

So when you find a way to bracket Kelce, Mahomes literally panics because he doesn't really feel comfortable with what he's looking at. So as a result, he doubles down on the scrambling and looks like a madman out there trying to play super hero ball.... instead of just recognizing the defensive adjustment and making changes.

He's gonna end up just being Brett Favre. QBs who are mobile and whose arms are so powerful that they get away without needing to disect defenses. Their coaches literally scheme around that. Which is why when they run into a competent defense, they puddle. The only difference is that Brett Favre throws more picks trying to make something happen, while Mahomes just runs around like a maniac.

The Chiefs will be back in a lot more AFC Championship games than Mac Jones will, so it depends. Maybe. Maybe not.
