I think the media promotes too much hype in the NFL. From morons like Michael Irvin claiming about Indy "Nobody can beat this team", to people hyping up Chicago's defense like it was one of the greatest defenses of all time. Obviously, both teams lost. Most Pats fans at this board knew the Colts weren't for real, they had an incredibly wimpy schedule, hardly any injuries, home field advantage, a great offense, and a supposedly great new defense. Well we weren't fooled by this, why was the media ? They were coronating the Colts as the next great team. Are we actually smarter than these so-called experts ? My biggest complaint is they never own up to the fact that they were wrong. I know that sports broadcasting has become all about yelling louder than the next guy, but can these people own up to their foolish comments ?

I'm not saying I am some sort of football expert, but I guess I am saying that the media sure has changed, for the worse. I like the guys to have opinions, just not loudmouthed opinions, and they aren't big enough to say they were wrong. I am looking forward to seeing the pregame shows next week, especially to hear what Michael Irvin is saying.

Thank god for the internet.

Ugh. Check out NFL.com for a while if you feel like it. Between them and CBS they're saying the Broncos dominated the game and are now "unbeatable" at home. Hype indeed.

Yeah, there's never any hype about the Patriots. Like comparing Tom Brady after five seasons to Joe Montana - the greatest QB of all-time. There was no hype surrounding Bruschi's return at all. No hype when I heard three people this week call Richard Seymour the best defensive linemen in football. I guess it's only hype if it's not about the Patriots. Let's just blame the media for everything.

Also, most of you are just homer fans, that's why you didn't buy into the Colts. You guys also think the Steelers and Broncos suck so do me a favor, don't go patting yourselves on the back and calling yourselves experts quite yet.

Hype builds viewership. Sensationalism sells. No-one ever went broke overestimating these points either.

Thats what its all about. Hype brings viewers. Viewers bring advertisers. Advertisers bring money. And lots of it. So they can hype their product on the tv that in itself is a hyped product.

Maybe next year the Media will think twice before hyping up teams. It was crazy how much the media hyped up USC and The Colts. Hopefully they've learned there lesson...but sadly They never will

9-0

And we did dominate, how is our fault we started so many drives in Pats territory. That's the only reason you outgained us. For that matter, we would have killed you even worse had Shannahan not been stupid with that 4th and goal to start the game.

The better team won, everything points in that direction, from the scoreboard, the turnovers, whatever. Deal with it sucka!!

Good point. All fall and winter they had the Colts on the right hand of God and USC on the left. Or was it the other way around?

As far as hype goes, I know my team, and I know what I see, I don't listen to these clowns, I've been an EXPERT in this game since I was probably 11 years old, and even then I knew more about predicting games then most of these clowns on tv.

Your picture fits you well down there... you've got the same amount of modesty that Bailey does

It's all about access and inundation. To some extent the coverage has changed, but there's always been hype in/about the NFL. 25 years ago the hyperbole was there just the same - just not in as many places. Things have become much more widespread is all. Nowadays the average fan has more than just access to Sports Illustrated and the NFL '79 pre-game show on NBC (is Sean Salisbury a reincarnation of Pete Axthelm?)

Back in '88 I thought I was gonna puke if I heard one more reporter talk about the Ickey Shuffle.
