That's a troubling stat given that inside the 20 and the field being condensed, it should be easier to defend. We have one of the best CB rooms with Gonzo, Davis, and Jones. Both Hawkins and Woodson aren't terrible at safety and our front 7 isn't that bad. This has to be a scheme/coaching issue.

I think we need a better defensive mind in the organization. Terrell Williams could be him but we don't know because he's MIA.
I don't think we need better minds we need a couple of better players in the front seven that can put pressure on the quarterback. We need milton back along with somebody that can consistently pressure the qb

Vrabel is one of the best defensive minds in football.

Vrabel is a great culture builder and players play hard for him but his defenses weren't great. In Tennessee, aside from his first year, it's outside of top 10

2018 (9-7): 18.4 points allowed average tied for 3rd in NFL

2019 (9-7): 20.4 points allowed average 13th in NFL

2020 (11-5): 26.8 points allowed average 25th in NFL

2021 (12-5): 20.6 points allowed average 11th in NFL

2022 (7-10): 19.7 points allowed average 11th in NFL

2023 (6-11): 20.4 points allowed average 15th in NFL

That's got nothing to do with consistent broken zone coverages on the back end. We need a better or at least a more experienced mind at safety, Woodson is just a rookie and Hawkins apparently isn't that guy. The defense could use a Devin McCourty type back there to be the brain of the backfield to make sure people understand the assignment. Coaches can only do so much.

...For me, the primary concern in the playoffs will be the defense against elite offenses especially if Williams and Tonga are out or aren't their usual selves.

Discuss.

No.

missing Williams and Spillane, arguably the 2 best run defenders, has hurt
the team is also getting killed on crossing routes and by every teams TE

I could the S position high up on the draft board

Gonzo is not surtain. He certainly isnt the player he was in the first yr. Still great but not lockdown.

35 people said it is??
Come on, this D has been way overrated. I know everyone hates the strength of schedule arguments, but when you face a bunch of sub-JAGs at QB, you can't properly evaluate a D. Anyone with ball-knowing eyes can see that we really suck at pass rushing, and have all year. Landry has been washed for a while. Chaisson always disappears. Our secondary is not good at pass D as a unit - especially at Safety and vs. TE's. And our D has not been tested in crunch time vs. top opponents yet. So, this shows they don't have an enforcer or blue-chipper at DE you can lean on. So, no, it is not good enough to win a SB.
And we absolutely will not go to the SB this year. We MAY (if luck strikes) get to the CG, but it'll be a learning season.

This team will go as far as Maye goes. Without him , there is nothing on this team to carry them to victory, certaily not the defense.. Its not like nix in denver or darnold in seattle.

Yeah, at this moment, I’d have to agree… Without Williams and several others, the defense has been very erratic and very soft against the run, especially and like many of pointed out the secondary is also prone to give up big plays at the worst times….. and that soft zone is a killer. Even Gonzales did not look very good at all on Sunday and that’s an understatement I’m sure.

They will have to go through Buffalo and as important or more, Denver. Denver looks good. That Texans Defense. No one is sleeping on them. Tough sledding for this team this year but we have three more games and fingers crossed two playoff games....did I just jinx us....?... . After that it would be 2025 delicious gravy....sounds weird but yeah....gravy.

When is Milton coming back? Or more importantly, has he healed?

This offense scored 7 points in the entire second half, and it was off a big Henderson run and created by great blocking.

The second half went punt, interception (basically a punt), TD, punt, downs…

The defense let down their guard, so did the offense. It takes a complete team to win anything meaningful in the NFL.

People also seem to forget in just about every dynasty championship season, the defense or offense at one point laid a stinker.

Improve, fix the mistakes… take it one game at a time.

I think if Williams and Spillane were active, they would have made at least one 3rd down stop that could have meant the game. Pass rush monumental problem but again I think Williams makes a difference there. I really like Marcus Jones but think other teams are scheming to get him on the TEs with a big size mismatch.

We need to find a better pass rushing DE in the offseason. The D could be elite with a better pass rush.

TEs are killing us. The middle of our defense is the weakest. This team could have used a safety who's strong enough against the run but also better at covering than our LBs. We should just have kept Duggar or Peppers.

My hope was Mapu would evolve into that role but he hasn't. He played only 3 snaps on Sunday.

If there was a game for him to play in that was it.

Yeah so Mapu not looking like a fit: and we just signed a LB off a the Colts PS Chad Muma. Can't believe that year we passed on TE Tucker Kraft.

We could have had Hendrickson. But, in the long run, I support sticking with the plan. This year's achievements will be satisfying enough.

Ya, I agree Hendrickson isn’t the answer. But it should be an off-season priority. With how good our interior d-line and secondary is, if we get a good outside pass rusher, and another good LB, the D could become special.

I dont know if its just the players . They also blew their assignments and had communication issues like on the 3rd and 14. No way that shouldve been a touch down.
