Is local sports talk radio becoming irrelevant????

Today is two press conferences involving both the former and the present GM of the team. Why wouldn't you expect that to get coverage and commentary? Also, Brady was interviewed this morning, on WEEI.

Perhaps you like it but it is overkill, and the attempt to create false controversy..

I am not interested in what the prez of the Cubs has to say.. don't let the door kick you in the ass Theo..

Cherrington, has been molded in the image of what Theo/Lucchino wants him to be, "meet the new boss, same as the old boss".... who cares about what he has to say?? it is going to be all fluff and no substance. Things are gonna get better though, keep on believing.

It has been all Red Sox all the time, for the past two weeks..

1.) As I said to someone else earlier, if you can't handle Red Sox talk in Boston, you need to find a way to make yourself deaf.

2.) The idea that it's been all Red Sox, all the time, for the past two weeks is just flat-out nonsense.

The most off-putting thing about Tanguay is that he is so very obviously sucking up to Krafty Bob and Jonathan in every interaction on air because Tanguay covets that Pats PBP job once Santos calls it a career.....F TANGUAY!

If Tanguay gets the play-by-play job when Gil retires I will never listen to a game on the radio again. I think I'd rather listen to the opposing team's broadcast.

Look at the topics on this board, there isn't much Patriots specific stuff to talk about right now. Gronkowski and porn stars, Suh and the Luck sweepstakes are the hottest topics over the past couple of days.

I will also state, that this is where RSS feeds and twitter become useful. With these tools new information is sent to you as opposed to you waiting through topics on talk radio that don't interest you until something Patriots related comes along.

Locally, I listen to a combination of 98.5 FM, 900 AM (living in New Hampshire as I do) occasionally a little 850 (although not nearly as much as I used to.)

However, these are all alternatives. I'm into my 4th year of Sirius XM and always head first for Mike and Mike in the Morning on the drive in (rarely am I disappointed), also NFL, Mad Dog Unleashed and Fox Sports networks (although Fox Sports in afternoon and night is pretty useless with Loose Cannons and some other show I can't remember). Between all these options, I don't listen to my podcasts as much as I'd like. :(

Leigh Bodden is on 98.5 right now.

The lunchtime drive today was horrible; as we all know WEEI is just one big commercial with a dash of baseball but someone needs to tell 98.5 that the the baseball season is over Over OVER OVER. I could give a bleep about the new Cubbie GM even if he is from Beantown. Boring; it is football season.

Gil and Gino are probably on the 17th fairway of the back nine of their broadcasting careers. They consistently provide the wrong information and Gino really does tend to ramble on, sometimes incoherently. And Gil misidentifies receivers almost every possession. Having said that, Gary Tanguay is not worthy to sit in the same seat as those two, who'll likely be going into the broadcasting wing of Canton, OH - if there is one. I'll take Gil calling Wes Welker Matthew Slater and Gino going on and on about a play that happened 20 minutes ago over Tanguay plus anyone. Plus, Gil Santos has one of the best set of pipes in sports broadcasting history - mon ami! :D
Although, I do think Zolak will make a good color guy at some point - just please don't pair with that clown Gary Tanguay!

Did they ask him about the Red Sox?

I was listening when LB came on. Felger told him straight up front, ( I'm paraphrasing here) "Were not going to talk to you for very long because there's too much Red Sox stuff going on today."

Seriously.

Out and about during the midday, and as usual looking for some Patriots tid bits I could savor...

Gresch and Zo.. on and on, about Gronkowski and the porn star wearing a Patriots Jersey and how the "brand" might be damaged, what would be the outcome of his faux pas.. even went as far as worrying about the loss of the Patriots Moral Compass after the passing of Myra Kraft... changed the channel to WEEI.

Merloni and sidekick.. hoping that the RS would make John Farrell the Red Sox Manager, because the players were "afraid" of him and all ills would be solved. Pretty sure that if you have a guaranteed contract of 10+ million not too many managers will "scare" you. Then they morphed into concerns about TB's 5th target, Ocho Cinco, and trying to create more controversy that was left over from Friday's show which I also tuned out of when they were trying to fabricate controversy there as well.

Then switched to the IPOD...

Perhaps I am becoming less tolerant about this type of stuff, but used to savor Patriots Monday.. and now the contiual Red Sox talk and worrying about a picture of Gronkowski has diluted the overall quality. The medium has become the message, and the medium sucks.. all of these shows are becoming unbearable to listen to. Never mind the other slots, they are as bad if not worse.

Thank god for this message board, as there is no hysteria here;););) only respectful factual discourse.

Never listen to the stuff out of Boston unless it is a Pats interview posted on the website. I gave up on sports talk several years ago and can't say I miss it. It is a lot of BS and seems to be a many of the same arguments over and over again. Actually, the one guy I do listen to sometimes is Scott Ferrell on Sirius. He is more entertaining that most of them and sometimes goes on nice mini rants. ESPN radio..LOL that is a joke. So are most of the local shows in a lot of markets I am sure.

17the fairway? Those cats are done with the 19th hole and being driven to the nursing home...

Was riding with a co-worker (in his truck) today who insisted on listening to the Hub. It was an hour of some of the most obnoxious, self-promoting radio masturbation I have ever heard. They kept repeating their points over and over again. DB and Maz kept parrotting each other about the Red Sox and they blew off Leigh B because they were so wrapped up in the Sox drama. I wanted to hear about the Steelers game this weekend, and got nothing! It sux because I usually like to take a long drive for pay, and I had to listen to the radio. UNBEARABLE! Next time I'm driving!

Toucher & Rich and Felger and Mazz are great radio IMO. Best we have had here in awhile.

Stop feeding the beast. Turn the crap off and go do something enjoyable. They only exist because you tune in. If you turn them off, they will lose money, and then change their format to something you might actually enjoy. Don't feed the hate. Turn them off.

the Hub forced EEI to change many of their formats... but they still suck.

Mr Pringles has to go. He's unbearable.

Don't fret about it. It won't be anything longterm.

And there we have it..... the end of detente.

Well.. it was a nice quicky. ;) Good while it lasted... lover.

A better question would be, has sports talk radio ever been relevant?

Who gives a shiatsu what those sensationalists have to say. Their only purpose in life is to feed you advertisements. They will do and say anything under the sun in order to get you to tune in. They treat their listeners like stupid children. Why do you put up with it?
