I never really looked at Trent Brown as a long term solution..I figured he was going to do the ol' Jamie Collins and come back , beast it and get his 2nd pay day next hear. So worried isn't the word but more so dissapointed. I was hoping he'd be able to lock down one of the tackle positions as Mac settled into being a pro and that we'd have an inhouse or future incoming replacement to take the baton once big boy flew off to the next top bidder.
What's worrisome is this oline in general without scar, without a mobile QB and without Toms pocket control/release. I was a believer that this was going to actually be our strength and what would make Macs transition a clean one - it's been everything but! Almost all of our players regressed and the depth we spoke so much about (Herron, Cajuste..) .....well Yikes!!
I'm hoping once we get over this rough patch of injuries /covid and flatout bad play - that we start ascending. Oline is funky like that - sometimes a switch is hit and a unit can galvanize and turn into a force.
Lastly to be fair to Trent..calf injuries can be tricky.. a very amateur opinion of mine is that he injured his calf late in camp (minor) and tried to play through game 1 - made it worse first series- rested ..came back and practiced ,re aggravated. Generally speaking Calf injuries can take about 2-3 weeks to heal when rested. The timeline suggests there was a set back.
Given that he's likely trying to get another big payday I think he'll def be back but he's prob going to make sure he's all the way healthy before going back out there to insure he's going to put the best film out.
